Waterfall at the end of the trail
Tina T.

Came here hiking with the family over Thanksgiving! Super beautiful hike! It took us about 3 hours there and back. When you get to the end there is a beautiful waterfall! Super high and totally worth it! I'm not an experienced hiker so I found it fairly challenging but on the way we saw a few families with small children and runners with dogs. I personally wouldn't recommend small children as some parts of the trail get pretty narrow and along steep drops but as long as they behave and stick close to you it should be fine. We went the day after it rained so the trail was fairly muddy. There are some small creeks you need to walk over so make sure to pack water proof shoes. The trail was clearly marked and was a mix of flat and inclines. Given that Covid is still going on, we all brought masks and wore them when we passed other hikers. Most people did the same and were very respectful. Would definitely come again!

Gorgeous! It took close to three hours to hike out to the falls and back, but it was worth it. Be sure to note that it is not an easy trail for inexperienced hikers, which I am. I would say I go on 3-4 hikes a year. This one was tough because it had a slight incline for a good mile and a half. That might not sound like it would be difficult, but it was. We hiked in the late afternoon, so the weather was cooler than it would've been earlier in the day. I'd advise doing that because there weren't as many people and the heat would have made the incline unbearable. You'll love the falls when you get there. It'll take longer than you think, but push on!

Horrendous park job by truck pictured at Lyebrook trailhead

Aside from being INSANELY overcrowded, this trail has a knack for being populated by those who park without others in mind. The truck pictured was parked across the parking spaces in the round drive the circles the trail head. Seriously? If it was a ploy to let less people park to use the trail, clever. If it was just pure assholery; then not so great. Be respectful of others if you're going to use a public trailhead and don't park like a dick. Also; PLEASE stop putting logs and sticks across the river crossing and damning up the flow, native fish and bugs depend on that water flow especially in the summer months to stay alive! Educate yourself if you're going to use a trail ESPECIALLY if you're not familiar with the local area.

Currently it's free to drive up as when I passed the toll booth it stated so! This one will be short and sweet as it's just beautiful here in the trees overlooking the lake! Overall this was an awesome find and the view the breeze blowing through my hair was satisfying beyond any means as this chill relaxing spot was much needed!

We took the red trail all the way to the top and we took the blue trail on the way down (it merges with the red trail). I'm giving four stars because the trail marking are really good, except where they aren't and just disappear for a while or entirely. The red trail is mostly well marked, though there were still times when we just had to keep heading up the mountain because we couldn't find the next marker. On our way down, the blue trail was really, really well marked until it just stopped and we could not find another marker. I'm not a fan of going off trail because I know it can be dangerous and it can be damaging to local ecosystems, but without a clear trail to follow and nearly a mile into the woods, we did the best we could (kept heading downhill and to the right hoping to find the red trail, but eventually finding the road anyway). If you start at the trailhead, you will walk up metal stairs and onto a walkway over the highway. From there, you'll follow the trail about a mile up where you will find a road. Beware of traffic, cross the road, and you'll have another mile to go to reach the summit (you can take red or blue trail) where there is a parking lot and great viewing.

This one will be hard to relive... its been two weeks and we still are emotionally and physically…read morerecovering from this hike. We are still to this day on our hands and knees picking up the pieces to a broken relationship. Caused by yes you guessed it, Mt. Ascutney. We wake up, eager to start our day, After a hectic dinner (peep Sawtooth review) we were ready for a fresh start, and dom finally took off the mascot costume. "I'm starving, I haven't eaten since the DOUBLE burger last night." "Theres no time, we need to conquer him." We both look in the distance to Mt. Ascutney and we are on the same page. We need a WIN. We probably hop skip and hike our asses to the parking lot where we drive over. Not much there. We get out and are met with a ridiculously humid day after the weather app misinformed us about a 78 degree day. with a slight chance of RAINNNNNN (No Snapple Element) We start on our expedition up this treacherous path. Our first warning comes to us. A woman running for her life to her car, pratically levitating (No Dua Lipa) down the mountain as if a mysterious force (mint) was calling for her. We turn to each other and figure "Hey this might not be too bad." (look into camera) little did we know she was just estatic to be freed from the shackles of Mt. Ascutney. We shake off (No Taylor) the first step jitters and get on our merry way. As we continue up the mountain, I begin throwing distractions at Dom so he doesnt notice the silence. "How was your week?" (I didn't care one bit, just focusing on my breathing pattern) Slowly but surely the altitude catches up with us, guys we are at LEAST 1,000 feet above sea level. And we might as well jumped into that same sea with the amount of sweat we were producing. Embarassed we let yum yums pass... We stop, to admire the view and kill time. Little did we know this mountain was killing us. Frazzled, our thoughts begin getting the best of us. I have no other choice but to make up scenarios where I kill Dom. Looking at each other we know what had to be done, we cant conquer this mountain we must turn back. DID YOU REALLY THINK WE DID THAT. IF YOU DID, DONT READ THE REST OF THIS REVIEW YOU DONT KNOW THE FIRST THING ABOUT US. We say, hey if people need help, we help. We are people, and we need help. After taking a measily four steps down the mountain we remember who the FUCK we are. We are Ariaanddom. What would our yelp followers, friends, family, service workers, first responders (fuck it) and most importantly John Taboada think of us. We persevered up this mountain. For another .2 miles and then we realize this was crazy people shit. And went and got a mint. We tapped into sandwiches too, please take a look at our next review.

There was only one other car parked there, though the lot looked like it could hold 35 - 40 cars. The hike from there was then a minimum of 0.6 miles (rocky and occasionally steep) to a lookout tower (25 feet tall, maybe). The summit was another 0.1 miles but probably wasn't even as high as the tower. We took the Slot trail up since it appeared to be more gradual (but was a bit longer). On the way back, we opted for the other option: the Slab trail (which was steeper but had steps cut into the dirt or fashioned from large stones, in spots). I would classify this hike as short but moderate. The tower views were pretty nice. It probably took us a bit over an hour to hike up and back.

Not sure how I even heard of this place. But I did. So here I went. As far as state parks go, this…read moreone is pretty small. Only 48 acres. But a lot to see in those 48 acres. Takes about an hour to see every thing. When you are first driving in, you see the marble amphitheater. A grassy circle with tall marble walls surrounding it. Apparently there is an "art installation" here. Classical music plated at astronomical sundown every evening. HOWEVER the park closes at 4:45. So - if there are no visitors to hear it, do the rocks make a sound??? It looked like it would have been a gorgeous spot to sit with a bottle of wine, a loved one, and some tapas, enjoy sunset and some Classic Rock music. BUT the park is closed. When you reach the parking lot, there is a short trail that leads you to the white marble dam. A sign tells you that this is the only WHITE marble dam in the USA. Which leads me to believe there are other marble dams, just not white ones? It was pretty and peaceful. Further down the trail you come to the Natural Bridge. The parks namesake. And this was pretty disappointing. Maybe since I go out west every year and I've seen all the huge sandstone arches and bridges, I saw this bridge and it looked more like a teeny tiny slot tunnel. I guess it's a natural bridge in the Webster dictionary sense. But this was supposed to be the highlight. My advice to DVR - change the park name to be White Marble Dam State Park. Not as many disappointed customers.

After visiting Mass MOCA spend an hour down the road at this park - you will not be disappointed!!…read moreNatural Bridge State Park gets its name from its natural white arch made of 550-million-year-old bedrock marble that was carved by a glacial melt some 13,000 years ago. The bridge spans Hudson Brook as it runs through a 60-foot gorge, which DCR calls "one of the best demonstrations of glacial erosion in New England." The park contains North America's only white marble dam, built in 1838. It was first used to supply water to an industrial quarry mill that operated from 1810 to 1947. In 2022 the state closed an unsafe portion of the viewing platform that goes over the chasm along with other unsafe areas of the park. The park department is planning improvements including improved parking and visitor center arrival areas, expanded universal access, and a "reimagined chasm viewing experience" with new accessible overlooks of the dam, brook, and natural bridge. It really is a remarkable natural park and deserves attention so that people can come and enjoy all its beauty. Giving it four stars for its spectacular wonder and for the visitor center that has interesting information about the glacial formations.
