We've had a great experience at Elvenstar. My daughter started out at another local barn that has a…read moregreat reputation but the ponies were dirty and unkempt and the teachers proved to be flaky with the schedule. Contrast that with Elvenstar where the ponies are always clean and ready to go and the instructors very rarely miss a lesson. Also, in contrast to our first barn, there are a ton of young girls at Elvenstar for my daughter to make friends with and to ride with. She's made a couple great friends there. I'm glad we found Elvenstar. We're on our third leased pony in ~3 years because KK's skills are improving quickly and she's growing! The skill increase is a direct result of time in the saddle and KK's willingness to listen to and learn from Elvenstar's professional team. Barns, like horses, have personalities so Elvenstar may not be right for everyone. But it's been right for us for about three years and I can absolutely see it being our barn for many years to come.

I loved riding here at the Bell Canyon Riding Academy because the location is so lovely, though…read moregetting in to ride wasn't easy since I didn't live there and they didn't return calls in a timely fashion. The arenas were well maintained and the stalls lovely and though they only had a few school horses, I enjoyed riding those. Then they raised their prices, using the fact that gas prices had increased as had the cost of feed and grain, but their quality of lessons and customer service remained the same, meaning LACKING. They could cancel a lesson on the STUDENT at the last minute without calling first so you'd show up, having booked a lesson, only to be told the rings were too muddy to ride but instead they were going to give you a LECTURE on horse anatomy.* If you said you didn't WANT a 30 minute lecture on horse anatomy for $90 instead of a LESSON, they said, "Well then you canceled on us without 24 hours notice so now if you ever want to ride here again you'll owe us for a missed lesson," a stance that I found completely unreasonable. Perhaps it's for the BEST that the Bell Canyon Riding Academy (which consisted of one young female teacher named Olivia Coleman) has CLOSED. I hope another riding school moves in to use the facility and that if it does it has much BETTER customer service! *Other schools will CALL clients to tell them not to show up for a lesson if the arenas are too muddy (unsafe) to ride before they leave their homes!

The first year we visited, there was a manager named Robert and it was called Circle K Stables. It was kind of run down. The next year a lady named Gayle was the new manager. Now, approximately 5 years later, we came back. there are many new amenities. New wash racks around the ranch. a rebuilt western arena, level with nice sand. Three new round pens. several new turnout pens. a nice pavilion near the rental stables. and several new restrooms. All of the employees that I encountered were very nice. Great job Gayle and staff! Hope we can visit again.

My son attended a 3 day camp in July and we recently took their 1 hour trail ride in Nov…read more We choose these particular activities as it was conducted outdoors with mask and social distancing requirements. There is a sink with soap to wash hands and a porta potty on location. A short walk away is the public restroom for the Rancho Potrero trailhead that is fairly new. For camp there was temperature screening upon arrival. For the trail rides there was a limit of 5 (family members or family pods), age 7 and up, and not more than 200 lbs. My 9 year old son enjoyed the camp more than the trail ride as it taught him basics and provided more opportunities to interact with the horses. He was the only boy at camp but he really likes animals. They went out on short walking rides only, which was plenty for my son. The trail ride was a full hour and we saw coyotes, hawks, and kites. Adults really enjoyed it, but it was a little long for the 7 year old. The other slightly unexpected occurrence was of the horses going through their natural bodily motions during the ride: fart, pee and poop. We were untouched, it just elicited alot of reaction from the kids. Since this is an outdoor activity, dressing for the weather is the main difference that will make your experience enjoyable. In July, we used thinner long pants with vented athletic wear shirts. For Nov, we wore jeans with double layered long sleeved shirts. They do not cancel except for extreme weather. Their website has more information about camps, lessons and rides. We had positive interaction and are grateful to have this facility close to us, and at a reasonable price. Definitely recommend and we would do it again.

Samba I first meet Michelle in our golden years and she was very happy to train us, we were still a working dressage pony. She helped through some old age issues to make Samba a circus pony , the 2 of us a long lining duo, leg yields, turn on the haunches, jumping little cross rails with even a lead change, little cross country logs and ditches. With Michelle's guidance I was able to ride Samba again at the age of 31!. Our last discipline was clicker training. Michelle and Sasha supported and cared for us until the bitter sweet end. Sasha Cohen is a great asset to the barn, she is a very hard working, reliable student. Under Michelle's guidance she has become a very strong, confident rider and Norman her horse a rock star.
