From start to finish, they made the entire experience seamless and enjoyable. Communication & Transparency: From the beginning, Gelsey and her team were incredibly communicative, responsive, and easy to work with. What really stood out was their transparency about pricing--they never tried to upsell us on anything. In fact, they actually advised us NOT to do certain services through them because we had more affordable options available. This kind of honesty is so rare with wedding vendors and made us trust them completely. Planning & Flexibility: We had so much fun at our tasting, and they made excellent recommendations for seasonal dishes that would appeal to all our guests, including those with dietary restrictions. They were also incredibly flexible--they even added a super last-minute coffee and tea service for not much more than it would have cost us to orchestrate ourselves, which was a huge hit with our slightly more mature crowd who wanted to make it to the after party! Day-of Service: On our wedding day, the entire staff was warm, thoughtful, and kind. We were handed champagne the second we appeared! Staff members carefully noticed when we needed little curated dishes off to the side so we could actually enjoy our amazing food despite all the guests wanting to monopolize our time. This attention to detail was incredible. The Food: The oysters were a splurge that was COMPLETELY worth it--our guests absolutely loved them! We had three different types with all the possible accompaniments, and they were fresh and delicious--a real PNW treat. The other big hit was the cheesy mushroom puffs--at least 10 different guests specifically commented on how much they loved them! We chose Lovely Night to cater a small elopement dinner (20 people) on valentine's day. We envisioned a luxurious, cozy and delicious, filling plated dinner - the food blew away our expectations. The salmon alone caused several of our guests to comment that it was the best salmon they've ever had! Working with James and Gelsey was a total delight. I had no idea what a difference hiring a caterer would make. Everything was perfect, thoughtfully prepared and served. I held a memorial service in my backyard. Gelsey arrived with all the serving items that she arranged beautifully on my tables including fresh flowers tucked in-between dishes. Each item was labeled and noted if it was gluten-free, vegan, etc. The food was presented artfully at different levels and in interesting serving dishes. The beverage service was equally well set up. Gelsey was able to supply a three tiered serving platter for my homemade cinnamon rolls that were special to the person being honored. It was Gelsey's idea to have the rolls after hearing it was one of his favorite treats. James' food prep flowed without skipping a beat. Between he and Gelsey items were replenished and hot items served hot, cold items cold. The food was fresh and beautifully prepared. My guests all raved about the food. I wish I could go beyond 5 stars!! Last night James and Gelsey hosted a beautiful virtual cooking lesson night for a group of moms! The caterer for our wedding cancelled two weeks before our wedding and we were in a pinch to find someone. Luckily, Lovely Night was available and they were able to work with us quickly on a menu. We were very worried about the food since we are foodies ourselves and love to cook. We were wanting a creative, multicourse meal with wine pairings and excellent quality food. Because of the timing, we didn't have time to taste their food, we just had to commit and go for it. We are SO glad that we did. The creativity and flavors were phenomenal! I had a memorable and delicious virtual moms-night-in cooking iconic SF dishes with James and Gelsey. Gelsey led us through an easy tutorial for a tasty cocktail followed by a 3-course meal taught by James. The menu included butter lettuce salad with green goddess vinaigrette and radish, tuna tartare with jalapeño, toasted pine nuts and pears and a delicious cioppino with mussels, clams, prawns and rock cod. James shared stories and background on the dishes as he led us through the steps at a pace we could all follow. James and Gelsey absolutely blew our very high expectations out of the water with the incredible job they did catering our wedding in July. My husband and I wanted the food and dinner experience to be the highlight and central element of our wedding and it most definitely was. James planned and built out an entire outdoor kitchen at our venue which had almost nothing to offer them in terms of cooking resources. Gelsey planned an outstanding service experience and was incredibly organized and thoughtful with every little detail. Not to mention the most important part...the food was OUTSTANDING! The portions were generous and everyone truly raved about every single dish, from the super creative hors d'oeuvres, to the light summery salads, to the seasonal PNW main courses. We got so many "best wedding food I've ever had" comments that we couldn't count them all! I could go on and on about all the reasons that Lovely Night catering is the BEST choice for your wedding or event. They were willing to meet several times before the event, answered emails and other correspondence promptly, and were flexible and gracious working with our wedding planner. I felt that for the experience and food that we were able to provide for our guests, their services were worth every single penny and more. Lovely Night catering created a beautiful celebration for us for 90 people. Owners Gelsey and James worked with us to determine the best layout for furniture and prep areas, including an outdoor work station (even though it was 35 degrees out there!). They also reworked the menu to fit our budget and added staff to make sure that we would have a smoothly orchestrated event. Their food was delicious and equally as beautiful. Gelsey laid a stunning table and added several elements to enhance the theme. They worked very hard from beginning to end and left the house with minimal impact! I was not feeling well and Gelsey made sure that I not lift a finger once the party started, which was very thoughtful. Most of the party comments were about the wonderful food and beautiful service. James & Gelsey were the caterers for my wedding of 130 guests in July of 2017. They did an absolutely OUTSTANDING job. I met James through a mutual friend before he and Gelsey officially launched Lovely Night and I am so glad that I did. I am a sommelier and the food was incredibly important to me. My guests ranged from BBQ-loving Texans, to meat and potato only midwesterners, to Seattle restaurant owners and sommeliers, and they were all impressed. When my husband and I were going around to tables and greeting everyone we stopped to chat w/ my parents. My Dad has never liked salmon, until this meal! James & Gelsey are both professional yet easy going and made the process of planning very smooth. We met four or five times in person and exchanged many emails to cover all the details. Two weeks before the wedding day, we had coffee one last time. My head was dancing with details and my attention span short, but Gelsey was so on top of everything front of house that all I had to do was answer her questions. I made a lot of decisions but left several details to her and I am glad I did. One special touch she came up with was a rose tea to serve pre-ceremony (it was as warm and sunny day) which was perfection. After the ceremony my husband and I took 15 minutes to ourselves to go inside and be alone and enjoy the fact that we just got married. Gelsey arranged for a plate of appetizers, the tea and some sparkling wine to be brought to us. It was much needed and very thoughtful. Their staff was well-dressed (my wedding was formal) and gracious. Service was timely and efficient and no one was left waiting for their food. I decided on family style service and highly recommend it. The meal itself was stunning. I wanted ingredients that highlight the PNW, were seasonal and fresh. Here's the menu that we settled on: Charred and marinated escarole -sourdough croutons, boquerones, almonds, sherry shallot vinaigrette Grilled calamari with chorizo stuffing - Marinated chickpeas, preserved lemon, saffron aioli Kurobuto pork belly - Apricot glaze, baby squash, lovage Roasted chicken - Medjool dates, brioche, arugula, whipped chevre smoked sockeye salmon- Roasted red beets, bagna cauda yogurt, toasted quinoa Carlton farms pork loin - Yukon gold mashed potatoes, porcini mushrooms Everyone at the head table had seconds and if possible, thirds of the pork belly. One more thing - James and his back of house staff had very little to work with appliance-wise because my wedding and reception were both outdoors with not much available. I'm not quite sure how they pulled it off but they did and you would never suspect they were working w/ so little. All in all, I can't recommend Lovely Night Catering highly enough. This was the best wedding food we've ever had! Gelsey and James were great to work with. We consider ourselves foodies, and Lovely Night is definitely the catering for foodies. Given our guest count we decided that a buffet was the best option and we were initially skeptical that we'd find a catering company able to make buffet food up to our standards. But wow, they certainly did! Early on we mentioned that we wanted to highlight fall flavors given the timing of our wedding. They were full of great ideas on ways to incorporate fall foods like squash. We are also very into cocktails and they were great at designing our bar menu with 3 signature cocktails and a signature mocktail. Our guests were very impressed and many came back for second helpings. Communication was very clear and easy throughout the year even though we were planning from out-of-state. Gelsey and James kindly coordinated a tasting for us during a quick planning trip to Seattle and accommodated our short time window, making things very convenient for us.
