Wow! Where do I begin?! Frais is tucked away in Shirley and you could be forgiven for missing this…read moreplace altogether if you are just casually shopping down the main Shirley High Street.. But you really cannot afford to. I made a special visit long journey from my home. It looked that good from pictures online...I was not let down. Placed on a lovely square near Asda, the front of Frais is very welcoming with it's fully windowed front ensuring you are able to get a peek into what's in store for you. On my visit, it was a glorious Easter day and me and my friend were able to enjoy the cool breeze. Frais is primarily a juice bar with a huge amount on offer. Set into three categories, Juice mixes, Keep it simple and super juices there is something for any mood you might find yourself in. Along with the protein balls which are so full of goodness really gives Frais is identity. But that's not all.. they even provide "Bulletproof coffee" I won't tell you about that so you can get a little surprise when you visit but wow! Frais mention that they are gluten free but are very subtle about it and you wouldn't even notice certain wheaty items missing from the menu. However this was a massive pull for me being wheat intolerant. What I really liked about Frais was that it is very obviously health orientated. Even having a "healthy living club" and juicing evenings. I was really impressed with this as it's what makes Frais so different to everything else out there. Foods and drinks costs where something that both myself and friend were delighted with. But is not intrusive, patronising or preachy at all. I have been to many places who do all these things unfortunately and this was a refreshing change! The menu is limited which at the time I wasn't taken with. But after having my lunch of a delicious tofu salad, I understand why. Being able to focus on a few high quality meals is much more important and there is nothing wrong with that. Salads and wraps were on offer at a ridiculously low £2.25 bearing in the mind the huge amount of combinations and choice I could have had. Soups, Salads and Sandwiches are currently on the menu and also available for take away. A fantastic lunch choice I would think. I am looking forward to seeing how this expands in the future for a relatively new business. As you go in, to the left of the service counter, you can find lots of unusual and difficult to find staple gluten free products which I encourage you to have a peek at. They sell many different types of the wonderful Bob's red mill oats along with various pastas. I can't wait to visit again and go though the juice list!

And those with some dietary challenges. Delicious gluten free treats. Food for the kids that isn't all sugar and flour. Drinks that actually contain juice. And better ... toys to entertain them while the adults have a conversation. Just outside the door are some tables and chairs for those nice days. The kids can run off steam while you sip. If you get an opportunity because it always seems to be gone instantly, you must try the gluten free avocado loaf/brownie.

The seating area is large, and modern and feels pretty cool, considering it's within the mall. During my trip to Solihull, visiting Joe & The Juice was a no-brainer, as I rarely get to visit one of their stores anymore after my local branch in Manchester closed. The staff here are both friendly and helpful, and the area is well laid out, so it's clear where you'd need to know to order at the till or pick up a mobile order. I ordered via the Joe & The Juice mobile app, which is an easy process to look through the menu, then order, and make any modifications to your food/drink. I did find it to be a little pricey, however, the loyalty cards are very good value, and you're able to purchase a voucher which would get you so many of a specific item (coffee, smoothie, sandwich etc), and this works out a lot cheaper than buying the items individually. I would have purchased one today, but as I only get to visit a handful of times per year, it would take too long to buy 10 of a specific product for me to make it worthwhile. I ordered an Iced Pumpkin Spice latte, the coffee quality was quite good, although I would have liked a stronger pumpkin flavour, and I enjoyed just sitting inside and enjoying my drink with the chilled-out vibes - which considering it's a mall location is impressive they've managed to deliver that. This came to £4.60 which is the same price I'd pay at Starbucks, but for a smaller drink. All in all, I do prefer the Starbucks PSL but this isn't a bad alternative if the Starbucks nearby in the mall is full/busy. I also ordered a Gluten-Free Spicy Tuna sandwich to take home in the car, I liked how they toasted it inside a wrapper to reduce cross-contamination, the bread was soft and the sandwich actually wasn't dry, it's probably one of the best gluten-free sandwiches around. Again, I did find £8.40 to be rather expensive for a sandwich, but it was good quality and certainly beats the store-bought sandwiches which always tend to be on seeded bread when looking for gluten-free. The opening hours could be better, but again it's restricted due to the mall and John Lewis. 4*

As a big fan of all things sugary, I knew this was somewhere I would have to visit, particularly as it's a 5 minute walk from where I work and the fact the interior is pink! Inside there's a kind of American Diner feel, which I love. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. Everyone who knows me knows that customer service is VERY important to me and again I was not dissapointed here. I also love the fact that this is a family run business. I heard on the grapevine that the manager/owner went to Italy to train to make gelato! Talking to him, it's clear he has a passion for it and was happy to discuss how the gelato was made and new flavours he was exploring. I asked about whether he would be doing diary free ice cream and was told that he was experimenting with this, but would also be offering sorbet at some point too. This made me VERY happy. The milkshakes seem particularly popular, but on my most recent visit, I had a fresh made waffle and gelato. Strawberries and cream come as standard, although I did not partake. The gelato was so creamy and full of flavour and the waffle was huge, so I was a very happy person.

I think the location is a huge benefit as it allows the store to keep trading even though John Lewis has closed, unlike my local Joe & The Juice in Manchester, which closed permanently due to being located inside the Debenhams store in the city, which closed. The area really does feel cool and modern, from the large juice bar to the seating area (decent size, could be bigger to cope with demand at peak times), which is comfortable, unique and has nice views of the Grand Central complex, I sat overlooking the balcony and it was super relaxing. I ordered an Iced Latte with vanilla milk, it is a shame the largest size is only 16 oz compared to rivals such as Starbucks who offer up to 24 oz. The price came to £3.50 which included 10p more to sit inside (I've never heard of any other coffee shop charging a tax to sit inside?), which was a little pricey but I would say the quality warranted the price. PRO TIP: Use their app to pay where you can sign up to their loyalty scheme to get perks. You can even buy a gift card that gets you any food item/coffee/smoothie at a reduced price, the only catch is you have to buy them in bulk, but then you can use them whenever you want. Plus, it's convenient, smack dab in the centre of Grand Central. And it's a nice alternative to a cup of coffee (although if you want coffee, they have that too). After months and months of the place being boarded up and cleaned, it was finally revealed to be a new eatery (specialising in Portuguese food) at the end of 2014. So, as you can see from the photos, it looks pretty darn smart. Big windows, nice wooden and metal signage and clear opening hours look pretty darn inviting (especially when you consider the alternative food shops are Greggs and Dhillons fish bar next to it). Upon entering, you will notice just how clean and inviting the interior is too. On Saturday (on our return from Pirate weekend at Alton Towers) we were starving hungry. With me being on Bootcamp currently, my foodie options are limited - but I AM allowed chicken (which this place specialises in). We were greeted as we walked in and popped straight to the counter to have a look at the menu. Now, this place is essentially an independent (but much tastier, in my opinion) Nando's. You can have chicken (to a range of different heats), steaks, salads and choose from their solid selection of desserts (including Italian gelato and cake). We opted for their "Half chicken and two sides deal" to split between us. As the chicken comes in quarters, Dan went for extra hot and I went for medium. I went for a green salad as my side and Dan chose Peri-peri chips. This was all made fresh for us while we waited and had a wander around the shop. They produce their own sauces and there are options for unlimited soft drinks if you choose to sit in. Our food was ready in about 10 minutes and we eagerly took this home to eat. Our meal cost us a very fair £8.50 for everything. The chicken was really tasty (and not that hot), but I was a little disappointed that my salad came with a dressing (even though this wasn't mentioned on the menu and I wasn't asked if I wanted it). I think this would be my only complaint. Service was great, food was good and the place was clean, friendly and inviting. If I wasn't so strict with my eating options, the salad dressing wouldn't be an issue - but word to the wise, ask for your salad without if you don't like creamy sauces.

Sign up for their rewards card and you get points towards freebies and get a free birthday drink!!! My reward card was not scanning so as a work around, I downloaded the app, logged in and they scanned the app bar code to verify my birthday! The guy was really good at trying and advising me what to do when my card wasn't working on their till!
