Let's talk coffee chains. Now, I normally make a point of visiting our wonderful Independent stores in Birmingham (as we have a wealth of brilliant ones), but on Saturday me and Dan had been to the market and done our shopping based chores and had approx. 30 minutes to kill before meeting the fab Caroline C.
As we were in the vicinity of the Bullring (where the chain store is king) we decided to pop in and grab a quick drink. After looking at the packed and filthy Costa offering on the corner, we quickly decided against this and heading to Selfridges (which was by no means influenced by the big signs saying "Sale").
I had no idea there was a Pret in Selfridges (which shows you how much I visit the store). On the ground floor as you walk in, you'll spot it straight away (it's in between Krispy Kreme and Yo! Sushi) and is like a little calm heaven in shopping hell. A small, but well put together space provides plenty of seating and was clean and tidy when we rocked up at around 12:30.
All the normal Pret style stuff is on offer here; freshly made soups, salads and sandwiches, as well as their usual drink range. I was pleased to note that a filter coffee was still 99p drink in (hands down beating the price of the other coffee shops in the Bullring) and that we were supplied tap water when we asked for it.
As per usual for a Pret, the staff were efficient and friendly. We were in, had found a seat and were enjoying our coffees within a couple of minutes. Hats off you to guys, you did it again. read more
