Most British people love a good cup of tea. There are a few other tea rooms in Solihull but I think…read morethis one is the best, thanks to its fantastic variety of tea, great prices (all drinks are under £2.00 and tea is £1.30) and delicious cake. As a food lover I thought there was also decent amount of food on the menu that is also simple. I was pleased to know that all the sandwiches are freshly made with your choice of bread (white, baguette, toastie, wholemeal and gluten free.) As well as this some of their cakes are made on site and it tastes even better fresh! The food is filling but not heavy. One day I would love to indulge in their cakes and tea in their garden, which looks great on a warm Summer and Spring day. Even if the weather is bad don't be disheartened because there is also an indoor seating area which is spacious beautifully decorated. Where better to enjoy great tea and tasty food than amongst other tea drinkers in a fantastic and unique British style setting that only a tea room can have?

Set at the back of a 500 year old grade II listed building the café is not at all stuffy as it occupies a gloriously light and bright annex overlooking a beautiful walled garden. The menu is simple but offers a lot of choice. All sandwiches are freshly made with a large choice of bread (white, wholemeal, baguette, toastie and even gluten free.) They also serve jacket potatoes and hot/cold light lunches including cottage pie, pastas, quiches and salads. They also make some of their cakes onsite and the profiterole cheesecake is on my immediate must do list! The café is extremely clean and the staff were super friendly and efficient. Our prawn sandwich and smoked salmon & cream cheese bagel were perfect. Great pot of tea as well.

I visited here for dinner, it's recently opened up in Shirley and my brother had been and told me…read morethey had lots of vegetarian options so i thought i ought to check it out. The staff were really friendly and helpful, and went that little bit extra in their customer service. The decor was really interesting there was a sort of fusion between modern restaurant and old fashioned cafe. We were seated in the 'book corner' and it felt like i was on the set of Harry Potter or something, it was realluy nice and cosy. Me and a friend shared the veggie breakfast, as we were told the breakfast's are the biggest plates they do....yes breakfast at 8pm, when is not a good time to have a good ol fry up? It was alot of food for one person, so i'm glad we shared, they also kindly put all of the items with egg in it on a separate plate so as to not contaminate the rest of it, as i dont eat egg. The vegan ginger and dark chocolate tart was lovely but very rich! I'm glad I ordered a scoop of ice cream to go with it. I quite like dark chocolate as it's not too sweet but friend found it to be very bitter. All in all I would recommend it, and will be visiting again!

We visits Desco on a sunny Sunday lunch and needed food. The service was pretty poor at the bar, not sure if it was a training issue but it took a good 15 mins to get served and seated with drinks. Surprisingly our food arrived in 5 mins as it took so long to place the order. It sounded like people were waiting on coffees too so perhaps a few more staff needed for a Sunday lunch? The ciabatta I had was crispy so worked perfectly against the Cajun mayo and avocado, slice of Monteray cheese and buttermilk fried chicken (no one tell the carb police) and a side of sweet potato fries ( charged extra but still cheaper than ordering as a separate side) and coleslaw. I had that with a refreshing st clement - orange juice, fever tree bitter lemon and bitters. I enjoyed the vibe and would return but let's hope the service, toilet paper availability and tidiness of tables improves by then!

My family and I had only ever heard great stuff about Parkes, so one evening, we decided to abandon…read moreout local chippy and take the short and unnecessary drive to the top of Long Lane. Initial thoughts were all positive, the service was pleasant, the artistic newspaper wrapping for the chips a nice touch and although the price was more than we normally paid, it wasn't a big deal. Unfortunately, it didn't live up the hype. Everything about the food was average. There was nothing separating Parkes' from anywhere else in the surround area and if anyone was having to travel a fair distance, I would not recommend Parkes, although for those who live close, you could certainly find worse chippy's.

Unfortunately, we ended up disappointed. The fish and chips were alright, just not worth the drive from Cradley Heath to Quinton. There was nothing that special or different about them. The chips were OK, but I find it hard to get excited about chips that aren't coated in golden batter. The shop is smart and the fake newspaper wrapping is a nice touch. They also offer the option to phone your order through then collect. A quick glance at their website has informed we that they offer gluten-free frying on Sundays. It is always really busy, so they are clearly doing something right. If you live close or are passing by and feel peckish, then it is probably worth popping in. Though I wouldn't bother going out of my way for it.
