Part of the original old cafe still has the old American style diner tables and benches. It has been extended either side of these to offer more seating areas. This is an ideal place to pop into any time of the day from breakfast to lunch to afternoon tea. Good old fashioned basic food served freshly cooked at a reasonable cost in a very friendly atmosphere. Give it a try if you haven't already. Not posh but clean and friendly.

For food we had a sharing portion of wings and a black pudding scotch egg. Both were SO good, very fresh and generally amazing. Another one for the to-do list of you haven't already! I thought it was a pretty standard sized café; lots of places to sit, including outside the front on nice days. The menu is fairly simplistic and has a range of drinks, sandwiches and breakfast meals. I just ordered a large cup of tea and a chocolate bar and sat down. I thought that the prices were really cheap. The staff were fairly pleasant, but did not seem to have time for any chit chat, as they were busy tidying and preparing things behind the counter. The cafe is on the main street in Great Malvern so you can feel the local atmosphere and enjoy fresh air from Malvern hills!

Karen S. handily remembered the place and recommended it as a spot to visit! As many places are in Digbeth, it's a little off the beaten track. On the junction of Fazeley Street and Floodgate Street I spotted the colourful signage and headed in for my first visit. Well... Wow. Open, airy and bright; I immediately warmed to the venue. After nabbing a table a quick peruse of the menu, I settled on their meal deal (which is a bargain for a jacket potato with two toppings, a can of drink and a chocolate bar for £4.25 - a price practically unheard of in the City Centre). I ordered my jacket with egg mayo and root veg and sat back to get some laptop stuff done. My food was delivered within 5 minutes (even though the venue was pretty busy) and was mightilty impressed. A lovely large potato, lashing of egg mayo, salad and a healthy dose of root veg - this was more of a main meal than a lunch! I washed this down with a can of ginger beer and a Kinder Bueno and happily sat for another 2 hours typing away. As a minus point, I couldn't spot any powerpoints - but the free WiFi is nice and strong. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the place has plentiful tables, a conservatory and an outdoor space (so you could enjoy your lunch outside if it's nice). I didn't try the coffee on this occasion, but I will be back again soon to do this! I heartily recommend this venue as a great spot to grab lunch alone or with friends. Sure, I got the bacon, 2 sausages, fried egg, toast and tomato, but all the ingredients were seriously cheap. All had the feel of 'kept warm for ages', too. The cafe has an informal seating area at the front, with a sofa and a few tables and chairs, and then a larger seating area at the rear, with the main counter and servery (to view cakes etc - they have table service). There is also a garden seating area at the very rear, for when the weather is good. They serve a wide range of snacks and light lunches, erring on the traditional side - so think cooked breakfasts, soup, salads, omelettes, baked potatoes, baguettes and sandwiches, scones, tea-cakes - and of course scones and cakes. My friends each had a soup and roll with a sausage roll, and I had a baked potato with cheese and beans. With tea/coffee, this came to £33.70 including service. Service was pleasant and reasonably speedy, though for first time visitors the "take a table, read the menu and wait to be served" protocol isn't quite clear, and the till at the front is only staffed when people go up to pay. (Most of the customers were clearly locals, and it was very busy on the Saturday lunchtime we were there!) Overall, then, a good find and recommended if a traditional cafe is your thing.
