Came here for some breakfast on the recommendation of our friend... while others ordered breakfast entrees, I opted for the classic burger and fries. I wasn't really blown away. I like this BTP branch. There's something about the way they do cream teas-- their scones are large and addictive, and they are quite generous with the jam and clotted cream. They put together a decent breakfast as well, and have bountiful baked goods on offer. Not a bad place to stop in Harborne for afternoon tea or maybe brunch, and there's a nice outdoor seating area with large tables as well as a smaller lounge area upstairs. I find it to be a bit pricey compared to many of the other cafes on Harborne High Street that do coffee and breakfast quite well, though the coffee is decent, and the latte art is on point! It is also usually very busy, and often full of young families and rather noisy, which doesn't make it ideal for getting work done. So, the BTP by the law courts in Birmingham centre never really won me over. The coffee offerings were A Ok, but I've always found the food to be overpriced and not all that great. On my few visits to Harborne, I decided to give this second venue a visit to see if it was the same or could win me over... I am pleased to say I'm a convert. The School Yard branch may not be as big, but the service, food and drink options are significantly better. The service is also much faster and more attentive than its older sister. I am a bit of a fan of a good pot of tea and there seems to be a really great choice here. The staff are happy to advise on their offerings and make a suggestion based on your preferences and tastes. I comfortably whiled away a few hours over a few cups of tea whilst using their complimentary WiFi and Mac suitable hotspots. Harborne has many great food and drink options, but if you need a place to sit and while away a few hours - you can't go far wrong with a trip to Boston Tea Party. read more

Boston Tea Party is a great addition to Harborne growing food and Drink Scene. BTN have great drinks and food menu here. I particularly loved the baked goods in there and the place is really nice to sit relax and have a coffee in. With free Wifi and charging points for your mobile phone or laptop, its great place to kill a few hours. I have been here several times at different times of the day. The food is freshly made and they are quite environmentally friendly. They take pride in their food but their breakfast is very good even though it may be slighlty over priced. For afternoon tea i think its a wonderful place to come, if you get a seat. It can get quite busy, on a nice summers day theres also lots of outdoor seating. I love the fact that they have games for kids to play with too. read more

Yes it's a chain, yes it's a little pricey, but I have never had a duff coffee, bad meal or had anything but great service. As someone else has mentioned; the eggy bread, bacon and avacado is ace and I don't tend to have anything else (creature of habit). They are happy for you to stay and work and will refill your tea pot with no bother (another tick in the box) wifi can be a bit hit and miss but not the end of the world Always busy and you can also reserve the upstairs seating area if you are looking for a social gathering read more

I tend to not put it towards the top of my favourite brunch spots in my own mind for some reason, even though I've never had any negative experiences. I've been in here for a quiet Sunday morning coffee a few times now and have had only good times. To be honest I would probably have gone into urban coffee company across the way but it doesn't open anywhere near as early (on a Sunday at least). Like all the businesses in the old school it has been converted really nicely with exposed brickwork and they've kept school tables and chairs (possibly from the school) which is a nice touch. Their loyalty scheme is 10th coffee free which I guess is pretty standard and the flat whites are delicious and well presented. But, where it really stands out is the staff, there always seem to be loads who are uniformly friendly, even though no one likes working on a Sunday morning. They add to the relaxed feel, supplemented by a really open kitchen and plenty of space for the numbers of customers (when I've been there). I knocked the star off because the food menu just seems a little overpriced to me, a large breakfast is £10, an extra round of toast is £1. I feel like I'm always whining about prices but £5 for mushrooms on toast seems a lot. When I eventually try some food they might get upgraded, but it will have to be special. read more

I've always had a soft spot for BTP, so was thrilled when one opened in Harborne. Situated in the lovely School Yard development, it's a pretty substantial size with plenty of seating downstairs, a bit more upstairs and some outside, too. It has a nice, casual wooden style that makes it look like it's been there considerably longer than it has- every BTP has its own feel, which is great. As per the BTP style, they have a HUGE selection of very tempting baked goods- with the counter brimming with cakes. The tea selection was also very good, they reeled off a fair few options for me when I asked. They do a lovely mint tea, with whole mint leaves. Great on a hot day. There's a seating area in the main courtyard area of the SchoolYard, but there's a 'secret' little walled garden accessible from inside BTP too- I don't think many others had spotted this so it was really quiet (and actually much nicer as it blocked the wind). There were a couple of nice, cosy sheltered seating areas and a long table with herbs planted down the middle. I didn't eat here, but from experience, BTP cafes serve pretty substantial breakfasts, sandwiches etc and are decent lunchtime stop offs. Having said that, I can't give it 5 stars because I've always found it just a bit too expensive to be a regular haunt. read more

Stopped here today for afternoon tea with my elderly mother for the first time after walking past many times. The main entry is up a short flight of steps (there are side doors which may be disabled accessible). It cost us £10.70 for two medium lattes and two slices of cake. The coffee was all round acceptable. The cake was orange & almond loaf and lemon drizzle cake - the orange had the better flavour, but both were moist and plentiful. Cakes are all baked on the premises. The young guy serving explained that they rotate through about 30 cakes. There were about a dozen types available today. The service was friendly. Orders are placed at the counter and brought to your table. Very short wait. Plenty of seating inside and outside on an enclosed patio (part of the former school playground). read more

This is my favourite place to get lunch on weekends or weekdays. I'm quite picky, being a vegetarian makes most places really hard to find a decent meal. BTP nails it, I visited last weekend on a Sunday and despite it being busy had a table within 15mins and food within 45. I had the veggie burger (chickpea I believe) and it was huge! By far the biggest offering for your buck around. I returned a week later to try the superfood salad which also did not disappoint. If you're a tea and coffee lover you'll love it too with a huge selection of house teas and special flavours (one of them which I am hoping to try next week is quoted as being the "champagne of teas!"). The coffee as well doesn't disappoint and it's rare these days to find a cafe that knows how to get their coffee at the right balance between "arty" and drinkable. In short, go for that awkward first date, for good chat with friends or even to get some work done in the upper levels almost hidden attic area it's great. read more

What a little hidden gem and great addition to the at times tired Harborne food scene. The staff are amazing and the décor is unconventional but interesting and creative. Can get quite busy so be prepared to wait. Great for breakfast, brunch, and lunch if you can get a seat. Great coffee and cakes. The croquet monsieur is beyond amazing as are the smoothies and soups. Portion size of the plate of chips is huge! Nice outdoor area with blankets for the colder days. Also great for a coffee catch up. There is a public parking lot just behind them which is actually one of the cheapest parking lots in Harborne compared to the main ones... read more
