There's countless eateries in Selly Oak, and Light Bite of Oak Tree Lane is just one of several located in the upper end of the main student area. Specialising in general cafe cuisine, they sell a range of baguettes (from £2.49), paninis (from £3.29), pasta, and salads, as well as a variety of hot drinks such as cappuccinos. You can almost be sure of getting a table, thanks to the amble seating inside and out. I first felt obligated to partake in some of their food after using their shop for shelter during a particularly heavy rain storm, and haven't looked back since, despite the prices being higher than some of the budget food outlets dotted around the area. The one drawback is that a couple of times that I've been in there, they've been playing trance music rather loudly, which does something to spoil what would otherwise be a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, but don't let that put you off. read more
