I am bot intending to attack Lisa Weeks' personal character in any way.
Lisa is very kind during the massage, however, I have three complaints about Love Thyself and Ms. Weeks.
1. The prices of the treatments I bought, suddenly went up when it was time to pay. She made the excuse that the website for Love Thyself was in the process of updating. I feel that the professional thing to do would have been to charge the prices advertised on the website, and then make sure that the website is updated immediately with the new price. The customer should not be charged more at the end of their treatment simply because the business' information is not current.
2. I was in major physical pain after my treatment, despite Lisa's advice to drink plenty of water after. She also did not advise me until after the treatment that I would be sore afterward, which I feel is dishonest. I have never had such an aggressive massage before, which she knew up front. Had she warned me of any pain afterward, I would have opted for a Swedish massage, which I have had before and took to wonderfully, during and afterward.
I did drink plenty of water, and do on a regular basis anyhow, but still awoke to such stiffness that I could not move, literally. My back was in spasm the whole day, and everything else hurt unbearably for a few weeks. I had the massage in early September of 2013, and am still in the process of recovering, though I have improved physically quite a bit over the last week.
For a while after my massage, my husband and I thought that I might be "damaged" permanently. It sounds melodramatic, but I am being quite truthful when I speak of the pain I was in, and still, somewhat am. On the form that Lisa gave me I listed all of my disabilities, which includes a physical disability due to a premature birth, and a bad back.
To be fair, I am sure that there was some kind of disclosure on the form, freeing her from any liability. I also take responsibility for not thinking to speak to my doctor before receiving a deep tissue massage, or at least doing my research on the type of massage I received, beforehand. However, I also feel that Lisa should get partial blame having been in the business for so many years.
If it were me who owned a spa, I would not even touch someone with an obvious disability without advising them to talk to their doctor, or maybe suggesting a different massage. Having read the form I filled out, I feel that at the very least, she should have known better. I feel that taking my money was more important to her than taking my wellbeing into consideration.
Lastly, when I shot her an email letting her know that I was in physical pain due to the massage, I never heard anything back for at least two weeks. It was not until I sent an email pretending to be a new, potential customer, that I received anything back. She knew that it was me, and instead of answering my inquiry, she made me believe that she would get back to me at a time when she was less busy. All I was requesting in the first place, was my money back for the massage. I let her know that she could keep the tip I gave her and the other massage I paid for, which, my friend received. I was not even forcing her hand in the matter. I was only asking, knowing that she was not obligated to give me a refund. I got nothing back, not even, an apology or her sympathies...but simply, an excuse of, "I've been very busy and haven't had time to respond to your email. She definitely needs to work on her customer service skills as I feel that an apology should at least be given, if for no other reason, than to keep your business in good standing. I realize that at the end of the day, my poor review, will most likely do nothing to her business, but hopefully someone takes the time to read it and at least be warned of what they might be getting into.
