So far of all of the optometrist nearby have been pretty good at getting to the right glasses and meeting my needs but the Optician here at Love is very good. Two front ladies are very helpful also. All of the staffs go out of their way to solve the problems, and their glasses are very competitively priced. The selection was limited to inexpensive Korean and Chinese frames, but overall the quality of their glasses were pretty decent. I like that the style is good at a very reasonable price. The lenses are very good and only ones that do not give me any headache. The service was very efficient and nice. I recommend the Optician highly for making very good advice for your vision needs. He's always honest with what he suggests and never gives me a prescription that is too strong so that my eye won't get worse. So last week, I made my appointment and today was 1st my appointment. The two ladies as part of the staff were very professional and did their job very well. Dr. Hwang right from the beginning was pleasant and made me feel very comfortable. As the eye examination was going on, he also listened to my concerns. He answered all my questions and gave me a detailed explanation of what he sees and noticed in both my eyes. This is what a doctor visit should be! A caring Optometrist who answers your questions and tells you what you should do to take care of your eyes daily and long term. Let me preface this review by stating that my wife and I have been coming to love optometry, For well over six years. We never had any issues and in fact I would honestly rate them five stars with regards to their optometrist. But there rules and regulations on prescription fulfillment is ridiculous. During Covid we all know all business hours changed. It was difficult to accommodate the new hours so I was forced to go to Costco for my eye exam. The cost of the exam is exactly the same at both places, it was merely a scheduling issue. The optometrist there suggested that I switch To daily contact lenses, which I was not a big fan of, but took her word for it. Needless to say I did not like the daily version. Now this is where my one star comes into play. I did not have any contact lenses, so I thought I could go back to Love optometry and fill my prescription there. I was in desperate need of contact lenses and would've paid any price just to no longer wear my glasses and mask at the same time. I spoke to the secretary and she said that she could help. Within five minutes she called back and stated that love optometry will not accept other prescriptions. There was no negotiation, I would've paid a fee just to have the prescription filled. I realize that times are difficult, but I felt it was an incredibly disrespectful form of customer service. I have referred well over 15 friends and family members, even asking them to drive a little further because their customer service used to be phenomenal. I have asked all my friends and family members who I referred to love optometry to no longer use their services. I hope that they can see the impact that brushing off people in an emergency can have. I am incredibly disappointed because being in the customer service industry, it's the little things that count to make a business thrive. I moved to Irvine during COVID and I subsequently was procrastinating getting a new prescription. I looked at a directory that accepts VSP insurance and I picked one of the nearest ones near my new place - I'm glad I chose Love Optometry. My daughter recommended this place to me. It isn't like her to rave about a doctor (what 20 something does that!) so I definitely wanted to see what all the fuss was about. To my surprise, she wanted to go to the eye doctor with me because she likes this doctor so much. I thought "What? The? Freak?". It wasn't long until I found out why. This doctor is so incredibly knowledgeable about everything having to do with your peepers. He even treated a sun burn on my eye that another doctor dismissed as "nothing". As he examined my eyes, he starts teaching me about optometry. It's like I got a free university lecture on the subject of eyes. I think I stayed 20 minutes after my appointment just asking him questions. I suppose his enthusiasm was contagious. His assistant is so friendly. He is extremely knowledgeable and is a true academic when I asked him about the option of getting hard vs soft contacts. He took time out to scientifically explained and walked me through the pros and cons of both options, and gave me a clearer understanding of those options. I had a persistent eye infection for about 2 months (holy crap... I know right? LOL) and I finally decided to do something about it after not being able to wear contacts and being stuck with my glasses for so long. My normal eye doctor is in my hometown and since i'm pretty far from there, I was yelping around in the OC for a good optometrist. Once I found Dr. Hwang, I called in and made an appointment for the next day! (Love how they're opened on saturdays and sundays!) The receptionists are super nice and helpful; the one I talked to even checked out to see if my insurance covered their services here. I came in with everything I needed (ID & insurance card) and was seen immediately by Dr. Hwang. He prescribed antibiotics for my eye infection (my previous eye doctor just told me to wait it out) and was very informative about what was going on with my eyes. He's also really funny haha. He even gave me a couple pairs of dailies because I told him I would be in Vegas the following weekend and that I wanted to wear my contacts (LOL)! Love Optometry charged me $40 which isn't too bad. I left happy and with a handful of candy lol. The next week I came in for a follow up visit and he let me know the infection still wasn't completely gone :( He ended up giving me even stronger antibiotic eye drops. The week after that I came in for another follow up and my eye infection was finally completely cleared!!!!! HURRAHHHHH!!! To anyone who has ever had an eye infection before--you know how annoying and unnecessary they are. I was so happy that it was finally gone; it's been about 2 weeks and my eyes are still good! Dr. Huang is the best eye doctor! He is conscientious and very caring. He is also very intelligent and keeps up with the latest eye medical treatments and news. I've shopped ophthalmologist and optometrists for the eye problems of my 5 kids. For example, he was able to diagnose the problem and help cure my daughter of cross-eyes that other ophthalmologists said could only be cured through eye exercises or not at all. He said for my daughter, the reason my daughter's eyes become cross-eyed or seemed like one was a lazy eye was because of the vast difference in the prescription between the two eyes causing this situation. As soon as he prescribed a new prescription to bring the two eyes closer together in disparity, my daughter's problems was fixed automatically. It's common sense things such as that. In the past, none of the optometrists or ophthalmologists I saw ever gave us ways to prevent our eyes from getting worse. In addition, Dr Huang understands the latest technology, knows how to help stop and heal your children's eyes from getting progressively worse before it happens, and full of excellent tips and advice. I always leave learning new things I can help with my children's visions. Best of all, he is very reasonably priced, accepts VSP, Medi-Cal, and other insurance. Dr. Hwang is the absolute best optometrist I've ever had. He is so knowledgable and really takes his time to explain things and is so passionate about what he does. It's really hard to come across a doctor who genuinely cares about the well-being of their patients and takes time to explain everything thoroughly and I've been coming here for the past few years and the process has always gone extremely smooth. Dr. Hwang is very punctual and I was in and out in no time. Also I've never liked doing the machine where it shoots air into your eyes, but this one was quick and painless and he got it in one try, whereas other doctors I've had took like 7-8 times to get it right. Then he performed a standard eye exam on me to give me a new prescription, and showed me close-up pictures of my eyes! He diagnosed me with Pterygium (surfer's eye) and handed me a tiny bottle of steroids to treat it. I didn't even need to stop by the pharmacy! So great right? Then he gave me a bunch of tips on how to keep my eyes healthy and educated me on the health of my eyes. Didn't try to sell me on anything at all and honestly I had a blast (he's got humor!) Dr. Hwang came well recommended from my brother, so even though I live fifty miles away I thought I would make an appointment. (Seriously, I didn't know it was possible to be excited about going to the optometrist....but my brother was mysteriously enthusiastic about this guy, so I thought eh why not.) The first time I tried to make my appointment, my car was broken into and I totally missed my appointment. Dr. Hwang was very understanding and flexible about rescheduling (he is open on weekends, too.) I ended up as the last patient of the day on a Sunday. While I was there, I saw Dr. Hwang stay late to wait for a family that was running late for their appointment to pick up their glasses. It is a young practice. Dr. Hwang is only a few years out of optometry school. (Bonus points for being fluent in both English and Mandarin.) It is clear he loves his profession and sharing what he has learned with his patients. Unlike other optometrists who use optometric techs, Dr. Hwang performed every stage of my eye exam. He ran the machine that shows you the little image of the hot air balloon, and he also managed to blow the burst of air into both of my eyeballs in only one try (over the years, other techs and optometrists have had to do multiple tries on that machine for me since I blink a lot.) Dr. Hwang was able to clearly explain every step of the examination to me (why he was flipping lenses and asking me to pick which was better, One or Two) and more importantly, the rationale behind why he was modifying my prescription. He even took the time to explain to me what I might be able to expect in the long term (what my vision might be like a decade or two from now, the size of my optic nerve and how high my risk was for glaucoma, how developing diabetes would affect my vision health, etc.) He was able to explain in layperson terms why I was experiencing eye strain and how the new prescription would correct it. I was surprised to learn that all of the frames in his office were under $200. I was expecting much more expensive frames and thinking I would have to end up ordering online or something. Even though it was near the end of the day, Dr. Hwang went over with me to the glasses case and recommended glasses (taking the time to explain the pros and cons between different types of frames...I learned that plastic frames have wider lenses that will help with my field of vision and that they put less pressure on my nose, etc.) In the past when I've gone to an optometrist, I've asked for a few extra prescriptions in case I want to buy an emergency or back up pair of glasses (or sunglasses or swim goggles) somewhere cheaper like from an online website or Costco. I'm always nervous about asking for the prescription from the eye doctor because I've had optometrists be guarded about giving me prescriptions before. I even had one optometrist leave info off my prescription so I couldn't use it to order glasses online. Surprisingly, when I started to hem and haw about asking for a prescription, Dr. Hwang was super open about it and told me he would be happy to give me as many copies as I wanted of my prescription to buy extra glasses. He also noted I might not want to go wild on spare glasses because he was hoping to eliminate my astigmatism so by next year's exam I'd have a better prescription. (A forthright optometrist telling me not to go wild on glasses shopping? 0_0) Ultimately, it was more affordable with insurance to get glasses from his office. But it was really refreshing to meet an optometrist who was very open to giving me copies of my prescription. read more

It's so hard to finally found a Optometry not just try to get you in and out quickly, or try to sell some frames for $400. It was fairly easy to get a appointment even for Saturday. The office is clean and well organized. The staff there is very friendly, she even entertained my one year old daughter when we were with the doctor. Dr. David Hwang is very knowledgeable! He spent a lot of time to explain about the detail conditions of my eyes. He suggested some contract lenses and glasses that would meet my needs at a very reasonable price. Less than a week later, we received a call for pick up. When we were there to pick up the glasses, he even adjusted the glasses for us to make sure it fits correctly! Dr. Hwang is the man. Funny and easy going but most importantly loves what he does and is good at it! Nothing I can appreciate more than someone being as dedicated as he is! Hadn't been to an eye doctor in a while so I decided to wander in as they were closing up. He was happy to take a look at my eyes for me. I was having difficulty seeing street signs etc. and he was able to patch me up. I can now comfortably see my surroundings without getting headaches and eye strain. I came in for a routine eye check up for contact prescriptions and I left with it and a ton of knowledge. He educated me of the conditions of my eyes (in detail), the options I have, and the pros and cons to each of them. It was the first time I did not feel rushed and was comfortable asking as many questions as I had about my vision and options for vision correction (ie. Lasik, Ortho-K). Dr. Hwang did optometry and ophthalmology tests for my family: refraction, glaucoma, field of vision, and cataract check. He dilated and inspected each eye. He was enthusiastic, efficient, and explained test results well. He stressed the importance of good vision to retain a driving license. He determined field of vision by holding up fingers in front of the patient, rather than using a machine. My wife's glasses pinched her nose at first, but he fixed them. read more
