There is ample free parking in the lot next to the establishment. Plenty of seating at the bar and more seating in the dining area. Music playing at a level that still allows for conversation. We always enjoy a well made, hand muddled old fashioned (or two). There are many appetizers to choose from and they have come well prepared and in nice portions. There always seems to be a fair number of regulars, which should be a good sign for anyone visiting. When we visit Fort Atkinson, we will surely return.

She asked for chicken. They were out. So she got the same salad she used to get when it was the branded chain (still on the menu). I had a "power bowl." Our seats were conveniently positioned to watch the kitchen staff cut open a bag of quinoa and black beans and microwave it. Yep. That was my plate. $20 for a microwaved meal. To their credit, it did taste good, but watching that made me realize we were definitely not coming back. Used to be a great place for a beer and a burger. Now, I'll look elsewhere. It's not bad, but the high-end pricing doesn't match the atmosphere or quality. The power bowl and salad were in the cheap end of the menu.

It took quite a while before anyone took my order. Once I ordered, the wait for the food was longer than expected, and the clam chowder didn't arrive until the rest of the meal came out, defeating the purpose of having soup as a starter. The fish was just okay, but the fries were cold. To make matters worse, I was given an empty ketchup bottle. I asked for another ketchup and a refill on my drink, but neither ever arrived. I sat there waiting, and eventually gave up and just asked for the check. What bothered me most was the complete lack of follow-up. There was no acknowledgment that my drink and ketchup were forgotten, even though it was obvious I hadn't eaten the cold fries. No apology. No "I'll be right back." Not even a simple "Thanks for coming in." At nearly $29 for a fish fry, cold fries, and a bowl of soup, I expected a much better experience. Great service can make up for an average meal, but poor service only highlights the shortcomings. Sadly, it's time to start looking for a new Friday night fish fry spot.

We learned that the course is under new management/ownership, and it shows. They either don't know how to make a course successful, or they don't care. Hopefully they just need some help. My sons and I are not strangers to great courses; much of my youth was spent at Exmoor, not far from my Glencoe home. After retiring 7 years ago, we made it our weekend mission to seek out exceptional par-3 courses in southern Wisconsin. That's when we found SPRING CREEK. Besides the challenge of the course, we were--and continued to be until recently--impressed with the pristine greens, the knowledgeable and friendly staff, the pride in ownership, and the vibe of the entire place. We started to see negative changes last year, which have been more noticeable this year. For starters, the greens need significant improvement. The bar and bathrooms are grungy. And sometimes, when we showed up, the staffing seemed to be short-handed. I don't want to knock college kids, but as employees they just don't seem to know what they're doing, and their frustration shows. Maybe coincidental, but the owner(s?) never seems to be on site when we are there, contrary to our experience over the previous years. There's too much focus on glitzy stuff, and not enough attention on the core basics. We've become friends with several long-time course players, all locals. They're growing frustrated, and some have called it quits. I hope the new management finds their mojo soon before it's too late. SPRING CREEK has a history of being an exceptional course, at least in our eyes. Maybe I'm being too critical, but I'm too old to sugar coat what we've experienced at this course. Golf is my passion, and life is too short to settle for mediocrity ... so, we are moving on. During my 22 years as a small business consultant and coach, I helped many companies recover. Was tooling around on the Harley, and came across this place on a Sunday. Well, what a pleasant…read moresurprise! Wife and I both ordered a Bloody Mary. They had Shiner Bock on tap (that was my chaser) and the Bloody's were delish! Pickle, mushrooms, beef stick and all the rest hit the spot. Looked at the menu and decided on a mushroom swiss burger. We didn't order a split, but the server was nice enough to bring us both a plate, and it was all divided up already! The burger was hot and fresh and the swiss cheese pull was on point. Fries were sour cream and onion wedges, split on our two plates as well. It's a neat little place with good/friendly service. Check it out on a road trip! Bonus- There are some nice deer heads in this place as well. As a hunter and WIsconsinite, I appreciate that. :)
