Both entrees were so good that it will have us coming back for more!! We had the privilege of meeting Willie as he was working the crowd. As we travel around the country, I find that if the manager/owner is working the crowd it's bound to be a great place - for sure in this case with Willie's. I told him that I call that "Leadership On Duty"!!! Three staff members also worked our table. Bow, Terri, and Summer, each had a division of duties and, as a result, we were really taken care of. The ambience was truly out of the western small town mode - clean, efficient service, and fabulous food. Four cups of the best coffee and a full stomach and was time to hit the road back home. I was so irritated that I only tipped fifty cents -- and that's saying something, because I always tip well. Fast forward to now: he's much better. It seems like he may have seen my original review (the 4-star one) and wasn't thrilled about it. Still, to his credit, the service has definitely improved, and the food remains phenomenal. On my return visits, I've tried the Western Omelette (pro tip: ask for it with their jalapeño cream cheese for a delicious kick!) and, for the first time ever, chicken and waffles. Both were fantastic -- and honestly, I'll probably never order chicken and waffles anywhere else again. Still, I always find myself coming back for the huevos rancheros. Funny story: I asked the owner/waiter about their huevos rancheros recipe. He told me it's been in the family for 45 years. The ingredients are surprisingly simple -- nothing fancy, not even cumin -- so either he's guarding a well-kept family secret, or his father, the cook, has simply perfected the art of turning ordinary ingredients into something extraordinary. As far as ambience, this place is just an ordinary, mountain diner. I love their floor though, and I would like to replicate it in the next cabin I build.
