It was delicious -- flavorful without being overdone, and the aioli and bacon were a great combination. My friend ordered the smoked salmon toast with capers and really enjoyed his as well. One thing we both noticed was the sourdough. It had just the right crispness -- nicely toasted but not so hard that you have to fight your way through it. That little detail made both dishes even better. Fresh food, great flavors, and a really nice break during a long drive. AlMack's will be on our list the next time we're traveling through Trinidad.

I was so irritated that I only tipped fifty cents -- and that's saying something, because I always tip well. Fast forward to now: he's much better. It seems like he may have seen my original review (the 4-star one) and wasn't thrilled about it. Still, to his credit, the service has definitely improved, and the food remains phenomenal. On my return visits, I've tried the Western Omelette (pro tip: ask for it with their jalapeño cream cheese for a delicious kick!) and, for the first time ever, chicken and waffles. Both were fantastic -- and honestly, I'll probably never order chicken and waffles anywhere else again. Still, I always find myself coming back for the huevos rancheros. Funny story: I asked the owner/waiter about their huevos rancheros recipe. He told me it's been in the family for 45 years. The ingredients are surprisingly simple -- nothing fancy, not even cumin -- so either he's guarding a well-kept family secret, or his father, the cook, has simply perfected the art of turning ordinary ingredients into something extraordinary. As far as ambience, this place is just an ordinary, mountain diner. I love their floor though, and I would like to replicate it in the next cabin I build.
