The couple attends concerts at the theater often so it was lovely to know having their wedding there meant so much. My partner and I watched the wedding from the balcony where the view was spectacular and were easily able to move around the upper level and main level when we wanted to mix and mingle during the reception. If I could watch every wedding from that vantage point, I would; so cool! The venue allowed outside catering, so we had the couple's favorite local barbecue. The serving line moved fast and I was glad for the space allowed to line up all 150+ of us. The stage was used for a dance floor later in the night. Though small, it was a fun experience. The stage is a bit difficult to navigate around as there is only one set of narrow steps in the front. The lights also contribute to making the dance floor a bit warm.

The musicians are incredible - Darcy, of the gravelly voice introducing the artists, brings in the best of the best. Not only will you get to listen to great music, you will be treated to the stories behind the songs. Typically there is a selection of CDs made by these artists and more often than not, I return happily to my table anticipating the new ear candy I'll be enjoying. There is not a bad seat in the house - from a viewing as well as a listening standpoint. In fact, the musicians more often than not will comment on how pleasurable it is for them to perform there. Go to the Blue Moon website and you will see the current schedule, which I am happy to say is filled through the end of the school year. There are links to every artist's website where you can learn more about them and listen to samples of their music. In all the years I've gone to Blue Moon, I have never been disappointed. They are currently under a bit of construction so getting into the building and finding your way around to the proper check in door was a little disorganized but once there everything seem pretty nice. The chairs are comfy...not squeaky. We got Row 3 seats and I have to be honest....they may have been a little too close to the stage. I think next time I'll shoot for row 6 or 7 to get a better line of sight. There is no drinks allowed as far I saw. Maybe bottled water? I did see they had a lounge called the Circus Room, but I'd venture a guess they don't serve alcohol since it's inside the Student Center. Chicago, the show itself, was great. Broadway calibur actors and musicians. The set was perfect with the band all in plain view. I would like to make a small note of criticism. This shows was scheduled on the same day as a touring production of The Sound of Music over at the Blooming Performing Arts Center. I feel this was in poor taste and timing between the two venues. Performing arts should always be working with each other as a team not in competition. There were plenty of empty seats available at Chicago that may have been filled if the community had not been made to choose between the two shows. Support the arts. Make it easier for everyone to attend both shows if they want to! Evita will be playing here soon.

The 3 bands that performed were amazing, but I have very mixed feelings on the venue. The location of Monarch is the worst. I wanted to stay downtown and experience Peoria but this place is in the far northwest part of the city in an industrial park that took my Uber driver forever to get to. It is nothing more than a re-purposed warehouse far away from the cultural aspects of Peoria. The layout is spacious but being a warehouse there are terrible sight lines with everything being one level, not like a theater where you have visibility wherever you are. A lack of seating is also a minus. Some bar-stools along the wall and a few tables for VIP pricing, but be prepared to stand. They do have a side bar with limited stools and a larger walk-up bar in the main space. The merchandise room is situated in it's own area is a plus. I would return for a must see band, but I'd rather be closer to downtown, and better seating options. No complaints for the sound, lighting, restrooms or staffing. Not bad for a warehouse, but it's still a warehouse on the wrong side of town.

They deserve special recognition for booking Charlie R., as he doesn't come up north too often from Texas.
