Whoa. A used furniture (and other housewares) store on Hawthorne that doesn't flip me a bunch of attitude? I'm down. Most of the stuff here is in the Extremely Hip, Rather Pricey vein -- Melmac dishes for scads of money, for instance. But it is mostly high quality and it's possible to find reasonably priced pieces -- I got a nice lingerie chest here for $15 once, for instance, and the staff were friendly and helpful. read more

Ah, it was okay....if I were into being retro cool.....which I am not. I can't speak to the prices or much of anything as it did not "WOW" me into remembering. It is on the main drag there....and we parked pretty easy around the corner in front of some houses. On March 23, 2017 I visited all of the Vintage furniture stores on Hawthorne. This is one of only two stores (the other being "Vintage Pink") which I can recommend. This store is by far the best of the stores on Hawthorne. It has the biggest collection of both furniture and accessories. They also have one of the most comprehensive collections of vintage lighting in the Portland area. There are some really great pieces here. And, you can fund a good bargain here and there. read more

One of my favorite stores in Portland. The inventory is always fresh and clean, with quirky vintage furnishings and accessories at super reasonable prices. I have purchased amazing dining chairs, mid-century lamps and light fixtures, glassware and cocktail shakers. The staff is friendly, helpful and charming, as are the owners who are often on the sales floor as well. All this makes for a unique place when you are searching for a special gift, or to give your own home a truly individual piece. read more

This place was amazing! My boyfriend and I found two, unique pieces of furniture for our new place. The men working at both locations (big and small) were very nice and helpful. I found a vintage rattan chair for about 54$ which was a steal because peacock chairs are usually 300$ or more! There was a bit of damage on the leg, but nothing a little good old super glue cant fix! I love this place and will be coming back for more houseware! And I love knowing that I support a local business. read more

I don't understand why this place gets such good reviews. Sure, they sometimes have some cool stuff (the light fixtures come to mind), actually, they have VERY good pieces often, but THEY ARE INCREDIBLY, UNBELIEVABLY OVERPRICED. I saw a blender there (that wasn't even vintage-looking, just dusty and dirty and OLD) for $20. I DON'T THINK SO. I did have a love affair with a chair there once, but the upholstery was worn, the paint was chipped, and it was priced at $49, which is ABSURD for something in the condition that chair was in. If you want to be gouged by bins-pickers, this is the place to go. read more

This store does stand behind their workmanship. I recently bought a dresser there, that had been refurbished and painted. A cute turquoise dresser. One of the supports for the top left hand drawer had a crack in it that the shop said shouldn't cause a problem. Yesterday, after 5 months of light use, the front of the drawer came right off! I called to ask if they would repair the drawer. They said that they would send someone out to take a look at the dresser, and took the drawer back to the shop to repair it. they were extremely apologetic, and everything is better than new, now. Thank you Lounge Lizard. I will be back to buy more furniture soon! read more

Such a perfect name for this place! A very retro furniture store, with lots of other small treasures to look through as well. A great selection of awesome wall hangings ala the 60s or 70s, which if I had the right place for it, I would love to get. I've found with all stores like this from the cheapest thrift place to the priciest antique stores, you generally have to dig and look at a lot of miscellaneous stuff before you find that one great treasure. We found the coolest mirror ever at this place and for a really great price. As a great bonus, the was super friendly. Its definitely worth coming here! read more

I've been to Lounge Lizard several times to look for unique vintage pieces to decorate with, and I always find something fabulous at a reasonable price. The staff is friendly, helpful and never stuffy like some places in town. And they avoid seeming like a museum because the merchandise is ever-changing. The only problem is that if you see something you like, you may have to buy it right then as it will likely not be there when you come back- I learned that lesson the hard way! I have always loved this place as a passive visual purveryor of furnishings/clothes/art/furniture from other times and places. I have a disdain for clutter and crap, so I appreciate that the lovely Lounge Lizard affiliates have done the job of sifting through vintage shit FOR you- -and now what you're seeing is a presentation of only the interesting, cool and special. There are other "vintage shops" that feel like a collaborative basement vomitting and very rarely is there a "diamond in the rough." It's what I imagine "garage-saleing" to be in Hell....and there's no hand sanitzier anywhere in sight. Recently, I graduated from passive non-customer to full-on "I'm buying something today" and that lucky piece of furniture was a cool, refurbished red bureau that was so awesome that I actually let out an involuntary squeal when I saw it. (As a child of EBay, I have to say that I also don't find their prices to be ridiculous.) Lastly, I was unable to pick up the bureau for a week or two (as I drive a sedan and currently live in a microscopic apartment), and the staff could not have been more helpful or accommodating. I need to add to this, like two years later......I went back to this place on my lunch break a few weeks ago and fell in love with this crazy rain jacket (think if the Mod aesthetic and Western aesthetic had a baby raincoat.....out of wedlock (do people still use that term?)). I was short by like half, so I asked the gal behind the counter if I could make a deposit and come pick it up later that week- -I realize I sound super lame and broke right now, but anyway.....she freakin' ran my card for what I was able to give and gave me the jacket and asked me to pay her the remainder when I got paid. WHAT?!?!!? Amazing. People just don't encounter blind trust from strangers like this anymore! Then she followed it up with this, "If you don't pay me when you're saying you will....don't avoid this shop and stop shopping here because you owe us." Well, of course I paid them...and now, again, I have to shout from the rooftops how much I love this place. read more

I didn't think I was going to find what I needed at Lounge Lizard today. I've been to Lounge Lizard a couple of times, and we bought an awesome swag lamp the last I was there. Today I was on the search for a record rack (with pretty specific dimensions) and a coat rack. Lounge Lizard was my third stop, because I thought I'd need to go to one of the vintage stores that has a lot more "junk" to find what I was looking for. I was greeted nicely by one of the ladies that work there when I walked in. I walked around for a while and didn't find what I was looking for but on my way out the same lady that greeted me stopped me and asked me if I found what I was looking for. I told her I didn't, and she asked me to tell her what I was looking for. I told her about the record rack, and she pulled out exactly what I was looking for out of her truck! I called her a magician. Then somehow she could tell I had been looking for something else. I told her about the coat rack (there were none in the shop). She said she had one in the back that they were working on and if I wanted to see it. It was a wooden coat rack that looks like it will turn out beautifully, and she put my name down and they will now call me when it's finished! The customer service is great and the staff seems very knowledgeable everytime I go in there. read more

Love this store and would have taken half of the great Mid-century furniture home with me if we had the truck. Some prices seemed a little high but I also got the impression that they were negotiable from the very friendly staff. They have great light fixtures too along with all kinds of kitsch. I would highly recommend this place if you like vintage mid-century. read more

Not impressed. The prices were too out of range for the quality, which was mostly crap. Some of the stuff may be vintage but everything has thick coats of paint slapped on it (to hide flaws, I assume) and it just looks awful. I don't see how they can justify charging near top dollar for item that are chipped, dinged, scratched and just plain bleh. They weren't even friendly. 3 employees were just standing at the counter chatting while customers milled around........and right out the door. With so much competition around them I think they should try and step up their game some- or not. *shrug* read more

I needed a dresser for my bedroom, and I found a great 1960s highboy for only about $150. I asked about delivery, and the man behind the counter asked if I would be home in 15 minutes (I live very close by).... and the delivery man was there in FIFTEEN MINUTES. Mind = blown. Here's the thing about Lounge Lizard. They're not pretending to be something they're not. They're not trying to pass off mediocre crap as high design, unlike several other local shops I could mention. They are realistic about what they're selling, and they're realistic about who's likely to buy what they're selling. So, they keep their prices reasonable, and at the end of the day, they like to SELL stuff, so if (God forbid) something's been there for over a month, they will offer you a SCREAMING deal to get it out the door. They understand that without cashflow, a business ain't got nothin', so if you feel like a price is a little high, don't be shy, make 'em an offer! For those of you who think that Lounge Lizard is actually expensive (see several reviews below), the only way I can fathom someone having this opinion is if they're used to getting their furniture for free on the side of the road. Nothing wrong with that, I guess, but when it comes time to enter the real, adult world, you will discover that you actually have to part with real money to get good stuff. When it comes down to it, Lounge Lizard's prices aren't much higher than most so-called "thrift" stores, with the main difference being that here, you're much more likely to find something you enjoy looking at and can actually USE than at the Goodwill. Oh yeah, Christopher, the owner is a total sweetheart, and his employees are all super nice and helpful as well. They will also deliver pieces to you for a nominal fee. One caveat - the good stuff goes pretty FAST here, so check back often. Their stock turns over pretty quickly, so if you stop by every week you're guaranteed to see new stuff. read more

This is one of my favorite vintage stores because it has things for every budget. You can get "serious" Teak furniture for hundreds, or just the fun, quirky stuff for very reasonable. They always have a great selection and constantly receive new stuff. The store is very clean and organized, making shopping way less overwhelming (for those of us who want vintage things, but don't necessarily have 3 hours to dig every time we go shopping). Staff is very friendly, helpful and willing to accommodate your schedule with pickups, etc. They also offer very reasonable delivery options. After searching for 6 months for the perfect vintage wood entertainment center, I just found it here this weekend, and it is PERFECT. Lounge Lizard rocks :) read more

i had been spending a ton of time trying to find some sort of piece to fit in an an awkwardly sized space (a first world problem, i realize) and had even been looking on etsy to see if it was possible to get a custom piece that wouldn't kill me on the shipping. no such luck. i decided to go to lounge lizard - i'll admit from the photos i thought they primarily were about lighting, but i knew that i didn't want an ikea or target sort of piece of furniture, and thought perhaps they might have something unique that would fit the space and my high maintenance color requirements...gold and dark wood seem to be everywhere - i'm a silver and light wood person. but i digress... i walked in and boom - saw a shelving unit that would do in a pinch, but it looked like it was custom-made so i decided to ask if they knew the person who made them. i came to find out that not only did they know them, but this was an item they sold from their store in every imaginable combination. i went home, came back the next day with my re-measuring measurements and got the shelving ordered. it was made super fast, really well, and christopher very kindly figured out a good way to get it delivered to me in a way that worked for all of us. when i'm looking for my next piece of unique furniture i will, without hesitation, come here. read more

This place is the best! The wife and I just picked up a new couch and an awesome, super-comfy, chair for 200 bucks. How 'bout delivery? They do it, and on the cheap! Walked in looking for a living room, an hour later it was delivered to my downtown apartment. The fact that the staff are ridiculously friendly and accommodating is a major plus, as well! Like another reviewer said, if we're calling it a thrift shop, it is definitely overpriced. But if you are looking for good quality vintage furniture and don't mind paying for it then this is a good place to go! Mmmmm mixed feeling about this store. The staff are generally friendly, some more so than others. The place is packed with swag lamps which I adore/am addicted to. So I visit every time I am in town and pretty much make a purchase every time. Their lamps are almost always more pricey than at other places. I saw the same lamp once at house of vintage for almost half the cost. They have a huge selection and they are usually quite nice, and for me, Im a sucker so I pay up even knowing I could find a cheaper replica somewhere else... its just Im an impulsive buyer haha. I was there the other day and bought 2 lamps from either location (theres a new one down the street from the original). I got back home to find they had taken the Edison bulb out of the TINY 60$ lamp that I had bought, but the one from the other store was left inside. Kind of lame, I dont know where to get an Edison bulb and I think if you're paying for something it should come complete. I have never had anyone take the bulb out of a swag lamp, kind of a cheap move. Wasnt too happy about that. Otherwise worth checking out... but make your rounds, because this place overcharges a bit and they are stingy about their lamps apparently :( read more

This place is THE place for beautiful and funky mid-century (and beyond!) furniture and home decor in the southeast quadrant. Hanging pendant lamps in every color imaginable, beautiful couches, tables and even adorable bar set ups that rotate frequently, giving customers new eyes each visit. While refurnishing our apartment, my roommate and I hit many, many stores on both sides of the river, and we always find a gem at Lounge Lizard for usually better prices than anywhere else. Moreover, they are happy to work with you! The staff is wonderfully friendly and attentive, remembering what we had previously looked at during past visits, and holding a chair for us while we scrambled to find someone with access to a van! We haven't been in in a while, but I know we are looking forward to the next visit and whatever goodies await us. read more

Great staff, very helpful and sweet, but ooh how high the prices were! Even after Home up the ways a bit, I still thought that $100 for a wooden table with too many imperfections that looked pretty new was a bit much. Call me cheap but I just couldn't see shelling out 20% more than I thought most of their merchandise was worth. Christen is right, the whole vibe here is much less "too-cool-for-school" than other places on Hawthorne, but I didn't see any bargains. Oh well, maybe it was just a bad day on the scene. read more

Their selection turns over rapidly so you have to show up nearly every day in order to find the think you're looking for. And it will show up eventually.
