In searching for a potential therapist five years ago, I interviewed several professionals. I believe it is important to find a good fit with someone you want to work with. After a few false starts, I came across Louis's professional profile and watched a video of him on the same site. What struck me in the video was that he seemed genuine, humble, and like someone who had done his own personal work to grow. So I booked a consultation with him. After consult was over, I immediately booked another appt with Louis and canceled the remaining appts I had to interview other counselors. I was that certain of his ability.
I came to Louis bringing a lot to the table to unpack. He never seemed fazed by all the work I knew we had to do together. He listened empathically at all times, in fact I think his ability to REALLY listen is one of his greatest gifts. He has capacity for listening like I have rarely seen in many people. Beyond that though, he also challenged the many inaccurate (and dysfunctional) beliefs I had about myself. This occurred early on and set the stage for what else we had to accomplish. Later in our work, Louis would gently suggest ways that I could grow. These were real world, creative solutions for some of the struggles I brought to the table. To me, this indicated that he was doing his homework and coming up with a plan of treatment for me that would help me arrive at the destination I was hoping to reach. His suggestions/plans were not always easy or welcomed on my part. However, personal growth isn't always a walk in the park. Look back now, I see these were things I HAD to do to grow. I did take his nearly all of his suggestions and they did lead me on a pathway to the much better place I live in now. I see retrospectively how during the entire process he had my own best interests at heart.
Lastly, I value Louis so much for his capability to understand nuance in the human experience AND describe it so well. Many people falter when it comes to explaining abstract emotional, relational, and psychological concepts. Louis's skill at this has greatly helped me conceptualize my internal landscape, explain it to ours, and help others describe/understand theirs.
To me, therapy is about a reach for deeper consciousness and when I moved out of state/ended therapy with Louis, I had attained that deeper consciousness. I owe Louis so much. In many ways, perhaps in part to the place of readiness I was at in my life, therapy with Louis Laves Webb was the most effective therapy I had undergone. I would highly recommend him to anyone in need of a capable and caring therapist!! read more
