I've ordered numerous cakes from Louie's for special occasions, they have never disappoint! I called earlier today for a birthday cake for myself for New Year's Day, which I found they would unable to do, due to them being closed Christmas til New Year's Day. Completely understandable and a little disappointed because I love their cakes, but was not very happy with the mannerism on the phone call when inquiring about this order. I joked saying "Bad time for a birthday, I guess no birthday cake for me this year" and I got a "yup" and hung up on. Very nice mannerism via employee. Found Egypt star on chestnut street was available to fill my order and did so very happily over the phone. Little disappointed by my encounter with Louie's Bakery today. read more

This is probably the best bakery bar-none outside of any town I've ever been to in my life. The staff is absolutely genuine and wonderful and kind and I would go here every day of the week if I could to eat but they don't serve restaurant style typically. The staff here are the best! We ordered a milestone birthday cake with a flavor that wasn't on their menu and it turned out fabulous. This is the only local bakery that will do carrot cake. We set up an appointment with them to discuss the cake and it's design and it turned out great. When we had to enlarge the cake due to increased RSVPs, they adjusted it. We were able to easily pick up the cake the day of the celebration and everyone enjoyed it. Everyone kept asking who the bakery was and we gladly told them it was Louie's. A great neighborhood bakery is much-needed in the Emmaus/Allentown area and I want to like Louie's. I really do, but I've had better (and more inexpensively priced) pastries and cookies at holes-in-the-wall. I should mention, however, that I have not tried their breakfast items (i.e. quiche, omelettes, etc.) The concept of Louie's is great--a bakery/cafe with a bistro-like feel--but for the prices they charge ($4 for a simple lemon bar and $4.50 for a brick-hard piece of cake with whipped cream frosting and weird tasting strawberries), I need more substantial items than what I'd find at a 5th grade bake sale. read more

Got two items: a mid-size container of italian wedding soup and a piece of banana cake. The italian wedding soup was very good....had meatballs cut in half, plenty of spinach and pasta, and a little carrots and pulled chicken. The banana cake was just ok, a little too much icing and had a piece of dehydrated banana on top (which appeared to be fresh banana). The other bad thing is their pricing. The pint of soup was almost $5.00 and they charged $4.50 for a 4" x 4" piece of cake. These prices are a little steep considering at the Allentown Farmer's Market, I can get half a cake or pie for about $4-5.00. read more

Louie's is adorable and the staff is nice. But let me tell you about the wonderful cake they made for my daughter's shower. The top was chocolate - melt in your mouth! And the second layer was carrot. OMG! they suggested a cream cheese filling and wow was that perfect! I wish I had been more specific about the decorating, because I saw some other cakes when I picked mine up. They were really nice. I could have given them more guidance, so I would suggest you do that. But definitely order from here. Soooo good! read more

Stopped in today to pick up some dessert for dinner. I found there wasn't much to choose from in the cake area (was hoping to pick up a few slices). All they had similar to cake was carrot cake and cupcakes. That was fine, I got a slice of carrot cake and 6 assorted cupcakes. The cupcakes were standard size, not the larger kind you see at places like Wegmans and fresh market. The carrot cake was fine, good flavor and fresh tasting. However, I had a taste of 2 of the cupcakes and they were so dry. The icing had that crusty day-old texture, and the cake was crumbly. They were either day(s) old or a terrible recipe. The flavors didn't wow me- I think I could have gotten the same at Weis. For $16 for a slice of cake and 6 cupcakes, I was very disappointed. Now I know why it's always empty. read more

I've been coming to this bakery for years now, and their service had always been excellent, but lately not so much. I ordered a Christmas sheet cake with Poinsettias, spruce tree and garland; showed the counter lady the exact way I wanted it designed, modeled after a beautiful cake in their display, went on the 24th to pick up a blank cake with a garish dark blue border, with three cartoon trees on it. Not even close to what I ordered I told the counter girl. Sorry, she said, nothing we can do now. They're all gone for the day. That'll be $39! Similar thing happened last year with an Easter holiday cake I'd ordered. Sorry Louie, you have to do better than that for the price you charge. Upon entering, I received a warm greeting and seated with a nice pumpkin bread and I ordered a hot tea while I looked over the menu. But I already knew what I wanted. A nice slice of that lasagna I smelled when I opened the door. It was delicious, filled with meat and cheese, I enjoyed every bite. The salad that came with it, was fresh and crisp. It also came with slices of crusty Italian bread and fresh softened butter. The ambience was quaint, warm, and very welcoming. This was the very first time I was here, the hostess was filled with great information! When you park, you park in the back, in front of the "cottage", where they hold all kinds of parties, from birthdays to showers. I did enclose a photo of the outside of the cottage, as it wasn't in use today. If you want your wedding cake made here, they will set up a sampling for you. They also cater to your events and you can set up a sampling for that also! I will definitely be back, when I want to unwind and feel pampered! read more

I really enjoy visiting Louie's unfortunately I haven't been able to turn it into a usual spot for my baked good needs. They did my engagement cake and I was satisfied however when I visited them for my wedding cake it was a different story. We had a tasting and were both served cappuccinos. The lady helping us told us that they would not draw up any designs or concepts for us until we would put a fifty percent deposit down. I'm sorry but it is completely unreasonable to put a deposit down without even seeing a design. At the end of the consultation she actually brought us over a check -- we had been charged $10.00 for the cappuccinos which we thought were complimentary! Had we known that, we wouldn't have accepted the offer and would have picked up Dunkin Donuts across the street. Anyways, we didn't have them do our wedding cake. We still ordered cakes from them a few times after that however we were unsatisfied. We love ordering their custom cakes with fillings, which are pricey, but well worth it. I noticed that they were skimming on the fillings and barely putting enough in for us to even taste. You should know that ownership changed here a week ago and that there are two units to talk about; The Bakery in front is one and the Cafe in a separate building out back is the other. I have never been in the Bakery but had breakfast at the Cafe. First, you have to pull off busy Chestnut Street and drive behind the Bakery to find the Restaurant. It is absolutely charming with both indoor and outdoor tables. Very limited Breakfast menu, and even with that, they were out of several items (on a Saturday morning). It is a bit pricey, but the food is excellent and the ambiance is wonderful. If so inclined, a great place to enjoy your coffee and linger over a newspaper. read more

Just like another reviewer, I really want to like Louie's. I'm Italian and I'm from NJ and its very hard to find anything genuine in the LV area. I had tried some pastries prior and was disappointed, but because everyone I know raves about this place, I thought i would try again. I tried their meat pie (pizza ghene) and was disappointed. It was more like an egg strata, there was no ricotta. I also tried their easter pie (ricotta/wheat pie) and found it to be tasteless. At $28.95 per pie, I was greatly disappointed - luckily, I only bought a quarter of each. My husband and I are also tiramisu fans and I'm trying to find some good tiramisu in the area. I tried theirs and was disappointed worse than with the pies. It was more like a pudding with tiramisu flavorings. At $4.00 a cup, not worth a spoonful. Anyone know of Italian bakeries in the area that are better? read more

We ordered a gluten-free three tier wedding cake with a non-dairy icing. Although I am new to the gluten-free non-dairy diet I was not able to tell much difference in the taste of the cake. Everyone at the reception enjoyed it and, as with all wedding cakes, most went back for additional servings. The decoration of the cake was perfect. We had estimates from other bakeries that were much higher. For the quality and the dietary needs we expected to pay much more. Louie's Bakery is reasonable, creative and delicious. read more

Stopped in few mins ago to get some doughnuts or a cake. Peach pie I was told was $19.95. No doughnuts or cookies so I tried couple black bottom cupcakes, they were good and 1.60 or so I think is reasonable for good bakery. I don't understand why they have tables but none of the regular stuff like doughnuts or cake. Only one pie in the display and closest thing to a snack was canolli or regular cup cake which regular cup cake doesn't strike me as anything wonderful. Now on the good side - they were busy making birthday cakes and prob other special orders as 4 cakes were already on the rack for pickup. The cakes looked great and I would have loved to try a slice of one but none in the display? I would have like to see some regular items like cookies or doughnuts or even a bigger selection in general. I visited before lunch so I don't think they sold out yet? So my take is their cakes must be great if that's where their main focus is. And they seemed very busy making them. Very, very, very disappointed. I ordered a minecraft themed cake a week in advance and even emailed them a photo of what I wanted on the cake. When I arrived today, the cake was not complete and I had to wait 20 minutes for it to be finished. When I looked at the cake there were no characters on the cake. I was told that the characters were figurines. Couldn't you have improvised? If you were unable to make the cake, you should have said so. You charged me $100 for a cake that did not resemble what I sent you and then only gave me a $4.00 discount. This will be my first and LAST time ordering from this bakery! read more

Absolutely disgraceful. My brother had a cake tasting SCHEDULED with an appointment for his WEDDING. He came from across the country for this place. They forgot about the appointment, offered no tasting, were not apologetic about it and even more rude and terrible was that this woman had the audacity to tell my brother and mother that they didn't even need the business anyway and it wasn't important!! I loooove this bakery. The food and pastries are amazing. I came from a suburb of Philly where you find great bakeries all over, since coming to this area I've had a hard time finding any...until now. The items are a little pricey, but the adage "you get what you pay for" applies here when you taste what they have to offer. The service is good as well, and "Mom" always has a warm welcome for you.
