I'd leave ZERO stars if I could. Damaged the lugs of 3 different watches during simple, bracelet fittings. Charged me $200 for labor, basically to scratch up the lugs and case. Nice guy, but terribly incompetent. Would not trust him ever again. STAY AWAY! read more

Competence and quality are second to none in this watch repair place inside the Coolidge Corner Arcade. Louie is a master of his craft; he quickly took care of my watch battery replacement. He and his associate reminded me of the keymaker in The Matrix. They were both efficient, focused and polite. After Louie finished, there was no necessity for any extraneous battery and mechanics' repair related discussion, he returned my watch with a one year warranty, in the event of any future possible issues. I went in for two watches: 1 that i dropped...bent ringlets and missing pins and 2nd one is a band that was tearing. This man was very kind, patient, and funny! He worked very fast and efficient while sharing some sweet stories of his children and his story for becoming a watchman (ask him!). What I loved about this place is his particular attention to detail and dedication to his customers. He brought out several SEVERAL boxes of bands fitting for my watch. He looked at material and basic appearance/look (which i appreciate as a fashionista). He finally decided that he would order from a friend. I thought it was so nice of him to go through all that trouble and even though we had found some bands to be fitting at his store; he wasn't satisfied!! He's the real deal watchman and a very sweet person. Don't judge by his small and crowded store. He takes such pride in his work and in his customers -- definitely made a long time customer here! Stay as far away from Louie as possible! The worst experience of my life. I left him a 18K gold vintage Piaget wind up watch to clean and repair. The watch is worth more than $2,700. He knew the value of the watch and said he could fix it. I trusted him as he has been in business for many, many years. He kept the watch for a month with a lot of excuses why I could not pick it up. I finally went yesterday only to discover that he rendered my watch "worthless" by literally painting the roman numerals on the face of the watch. This act is just unbelievable coming from a professional and left me in shock. I should have called the police as he didn't want to give me the watch until I paid him cash. Finally I left him $50 out of the $270 he wanted to charge me and after much argument he surrendered the watch. I paid him to ruin the watch?? It is worth absolutely nothing now after what he did. If the numerals had faded due to age, I could have sent it to Piaget to have the face replaced but now it is just impossible to fix. He should retire... read more

Louie did fast work (it was ready within the hour) and charged $50 for what he said were 6 problems (he puts 6 question marks on the receipt to indicate each problem). He accepted payment via credit card though I'm sure he prefers cash. His English is pretty limited, but eventually you can understand the gist. He was also very friendly and very happy, which is nice since a lot of business owners of little shops like this (that I've run into) are normally pretty grumpy. I'd recommend him to others. I gave 4 instead of 5 stars because I do wish he spoke a little slower, knowing that we had a language barrier, so that I could get more of what he was saying. read more

Amazingly good service from Louie, the owner and staff at this small shop in the Arcade (mall) on Harvard St. (So good that I created this account to write this, my first review.) I brought in 3 watches, all needing new batteries plus other repairs. Because one of the watches had other issues that could have caused the battery to stop working, he tested the battery instead of just replacing it - he didn't want to charge me for a new battery unless it was needed. He quickly had all of the repairs done, no scratches or other marks on my watch or my wife's. And the price was amazing. Louie was so modest about charging me $3 for one of the repairs that he almost giggled about it. I'd recommend him to everyone. And I'm guessing the only reason he hasn't had other glowing reviews is that his business wasn't listed with the proper categories (I've submitted those edits), so people didn't know to go see him. What a wonderful, kind guy! The place is situated in the Coolidge Arcade on the left side of the 1st floor. Louie does watch and clock repair -- from basic battery changes ($15 normally with a 1 year guarantee, but he gave me a holiday discount!) to more complex jobs (a woman who came in while I was there was picking up a fixed clock she had shattered into pieces on the floor). He also does jewelry and eyeglass/sunglass repair. His English is fine, although it might take you a couple of tries to understand him. He'll draw pictures and write out prices for you. Otherwise, he is fully knowledgable of the art of watch fixin'. He even does the little things, like turn your dial to the right time. Two customers who walked in while I was there swore he was the best, and they come to and trust him for everything. If you have the time, stay the 10 minutes while he switches your watch battery. He is a lovely and hilarious man. read more

PLEASE BEWARE OF THIS PLACE. I had a very similar experience to other reviewers. First, I came in years ago with a high end watch whose face plate had fallen off. I couldn't afford to replace it so I asked him to clean off the glue. I asked how much and he gave me a price. When I returned, he doubled the price, saying it took much longer. I balked and haggled him down (but to my dismay to a price still higher than he quoted). Then today, I brought the same watch in to have a battery replaced. First, he noted that it was a "very nice watch." He quoted me $20 for the new battery. I said I'd be next door eating lunch. When I came back he wanted to charge me $50(!!!) He claimed there was a piece that was broken, but his English was so bad (maybe this is a trick?). Something about the wrong part in it??? The watch is 20 years old now and has never had an issue. I said no, you can put the bad part back in and you can't just go around doing work people don't agree to. He claimed if he had my cell he would have called. BUT, I was right next door (in an indoor arcade). We haggled forever and I finally agreed to pay $35, and I still feel like I was swindled, but I was tired of telling him he can't do that to people. The guy working there was nice (although he didn't speak much English, which I will get back to), and the work he did seems to be good quality. I took in 3 watches which needed batteries replaced, and one new watch which just needed links removed. Two of the battery replacements were Skagens, which I know can be difficult, but he did a fine job. All of this earned him his 2-stars. But the cost was outrageous. After seeing the first review, I stupidly didn't even ask what the cost would be when dropping them off. I have been to many watch and other repair services, and haven't ever had a problem with cost, so I didn't worry about it this time. But the battery replacements were $15 each (even for the 3rd simple watch), and the link removal was $28! I tried to ask him why it was so expensive, but he didn't seem to understand any of what I was saying, so I finally just paid and left. But I certainly won't be returning. read more

I had an Omega watch battery replaced (no waterproof sealing requested) - he said it would take 15 minutes, but it took 10 and it cost $18. Fast and price was reasonable. He gave a one year warranty on the battery. Will come here now to get my watch battery replaced. read more

I went into the stop to get new spring bars for my watch. I could have bought them online for $2-3, but decided I was lazy and I'd support a local business. Big mistake. His english was very poor and difficult to understand, and when I asked how much it would be he just grunted and didn't give me an answer. He then proceeded to fish some parts out of a drawer and changed the watch band over (which I would have been happy to do myself - it is not difficult and I have the tools), and charged me $20 for the privilege. I understand there is rent to pay on the store and some labor involved to find the part and replace the watch band, but that upcharge is outrageous. I will never return and would not recommend this place to anyone else. I will look for somewhere else next time I need something doing on my watches. read more

I have gone to Louie in the past to replace watch batteries without any issues. He seemed to be a nice enough man. Today my view of him changed dramatically. I came in with a Michele watch with two different bands to match the face. Both bands were huge on me so I needed links taken out of both. He quoted me $25 and that it would take thirty minutes. I repeated the price back to him twice to confirm that included both bands. He said yes, come back in thirty mins. This seemed reasonable to me as I've typically paid about $15 each time I needed links taken out of a band. When I came back in the thirty mins, he was already done and back to watching videos on his phone as he always does. Much to my surprise, he only did one band and flipped out on me when I asked about the second band. Yelled at me saying he is a professional, he's been doing this 30 years, etc! I told him I never said he wasn't a professional but that there was clearly a misunderstanding. His English is not great and I think that has a lot to do with it. I'm usually very sensitive to that though since my parents are immigrants too. But this man went too far! He said he should've charged me $35 because he is so busy (he is not - watching videos), but he was nice and charged $25. He told me to take the second band elsewhere and see how much they charge me for less professional work. Well, I did. I was charged $12 for excellent work at Walter's down the street. The man there did the work in front of me in ten minutes and taught me how to swap the bands so I can do it myself when I'm at home. I cannot believe how rude Louie was for his own misunderstanding and how much he exaggerated how "difficult" a job it was. Wish I could get my money back but I'm never going in that store again. read more

I went in to get my battery replaced the man who replaced the battery destroyed the the back of the watch and the watch band. He nicked the metal on the band so badly that it cut my wrist when I put it on. I handed it back to him and showed him what he did to the watch and he told me it wasn't him despite the metal splinters hanging from the watch band. I showed him that it cut me so badly that it made me bleed, and only then did he try to file down the splinters. He did a poor job filing it and the edges were so rough I couldn't wear it. I had to take it to another jeweler to get it fixed. The watch is so badly mangled that all the jeweler could do was polish the edges so it didn't hurt to wear. The man who runs this place didn't speak enough English for me to explain that I wanted my money back and that I'd like him to pay to get the watch fixed. I will never go here again. He ruined a rather expensive watch and I have no recourse. read more
