Price: I scoured the internet for weeks and got a dozen quotes from different makeup studios in the area. Chelsey was the most reasonably priced of the bunch. Trial: I visited Chelsey's studio in Capitola and was super impressed by how cute and clean it was. During my trial, I explained what I was looking for and showed Chelsey some ideas from Pinterest. She ran with it and created a gorgeous look that I loved instantly. She took detailed notes on every product she used and took pictures of the final look so she could replicate it on my wedding day. Wedding Day: Chelsey arrived on time and got right to work. She did makeup for me, my two sisters and my mom. All of our makeup looked beautiful and stayed on all day. I will never forget that when I called him at work to go over how he applied my makeup because I loved it, he met me ON HIS DAY OFF just before we were leaving Capitola to show me how to apply the products just like he did. Sarah Nicole had to navigate the young (one 13 year old), the older (me and my bridal party) and the wiser (all the moms). Everyone's make-up was spot on and age appropriate. She listened to everyone's needs and if someone wanted an adjustment, was totally open to making that happen. We all received so many compliments and I'm not sure I will look this good at any other time again in my life. Would totally recommend her to anyone - and I hope to get her down to LA someday to help work on some of my clients. I…read morebooked my appointment for Saturday May 24th but little did I know my cousin's wedding would be held on Sunday May 25th. When I called to see if I can reschedule it to the following day, I was told no appointments under my name existed. I was peeved but it worked out fine since I needed it for Sunday anyway. Sunday was booked for 2PM. I arrived at 12:15PM and requested to be seen earlier. I was told to come back at 12:30PM. Yay! I was very anxious because every time I step out of MAC, I feel like a million bucks. I assumed every MAC would create the same experience. Sadly, that did not occur. Although the girl that did my makeup was very nice but she didn't create the smoky eyes like I asked and the lashes she put on me looked incredibly fake. Granted I know I can't expect to look "natural" after a makeup session but it looked totally unreal in an unpleasant manner. To me. Everyone at the wedding liked it but that goes to show you that I do not care what people think or say about me - what matters to me is how I feel and see myself. I was unhappy. My fault. I should have gone to the MAC in San Jose at Westfield Valley Fair. This is just one of many that is added to my "why Santa Cruz sucks" mental list. Side note: I had a blast at my cousin's wedding and cannot wait for another event to get glamorous for. I'm not a makeup person and will never be. You just need to spend at least $50 in MAC products for the makeup session; a really good deal.

The artists are willing to give recommendations - I always need help finding that perfect everyday shadow, and I have never been disappointed with their picks. For Halloween this year, I decided to be 100% girly and wanted to add fake lashes to my look. I have been wanting to try them for a while, but the application process and glue in particular scared me. I mentioned them to Jasmine as an afterthought, and she went through the entire procedure with me, did the motions in front of the mirror, trimmed the lashes, and gave me one of the Q-tippy applicators for the glue. So nice! Come Halloween, I got them on my lids first try and they looked amazing. This has totally opened up a whole new world of femininity for me.

Luckily my planner found The Last Resort! I have long, straight hair that doesn't hold styles well, but I was intent on having romantic waves and curls on my wedding day. Val had me in the salon for a trial run on the day of our rehearsal dinner, and my hair held from about 10 in the morning, through the rehearsal dinner, and until I went to bed that night! The next day (wedding day!) Val and Judy (makeup) met me at the venue to get started. I had a couple of changes I wanted to make to my makeup, and Judy was very receptive and got me the exact look that I wanted. Meanwhile, Val got to work on my hair right away. She also did my (very shy) sister's hair and my (very emotional) mom's hair, and earlier that day had done hair for my mother-in-law, sister-in-law, niece, and friend!
