Ashley is AMAZING!! I was so nervous about my hair and makeup, especially for the most important day, my wedding. I usually don't do my makeup and my hair is always in the same style. She put me at ease starting with the hair and makeup trial. I was obsessed after my hair and makeup trials and I just knew I had made the right decision to have her booked as my hair and makeup artist. I got married in Big Sur in August 2023 and was VERY happy with my choice of Ashley/Blush for hair and makeup. I live in Los Angeles and am into fashion and beauty, so my standards are pretty high in terms of what I expect out of execution, detail, and elegance for my hair and makeup. At the same time, I'm a down-to-earth person and the last thing I wanted was a snooty or high-glam vibe from my stylist on my wedding day. Ashley was the perfect fit. She listened carefully to what I wanted, asked for inspiration photos for myself and everyone in my bridal party, took over 6 hours on my trial making everything just perfect, helped me figure out what kind of hair extensions to purchase, took a long list of suggestions from me about subtle changes I wanted to make for the actual wedding day, and executed them all perfectly. Ashley even volunteered to take home my hair extensions after the trial, wash them, and prepare them for the wedding day. When I was interviewing a hair and makeup artist I instantly knew Ashley was the one. I was a little nervous about not having an in-person trial, however, she was an excellent guide and able to help walk me through my vision virtually. We never met until my wedding day, but just through our conversations, I trusted her completely. I was thrilled at the opportunity to use hair extensions for the first time, and also matched virtually. With a few photos on a Pinterest board, she completely transformed me into a stunning version of myself. Ashley is a joy, and it was fun being with her the morning of my wedding. I was eloping and didn't have a bridal party which was completely fine because I felt like I was glamming up with a close friend. TLDR: My makeup and hair stayed on through ocean winds and crazy dancing (because hey, I like to dance), from 2PM all the way until midnight when I reluctantly took it all off. Ashley and Tanika did an amazing job that had me smiling from ear to ear on my wedding day. I highly recommend Blush Hair and Makeup Design for your special day! To start off, the trial: I arrived at the salon (note I say an actual salon and not someone's home), and I instantly noted how bright and welcoming it was. It was decorated like something straight out of an Instagram post! My dad was also very happy to get a very lovely cup of tea (or two, or three?) while he waited patiently on the sofa. Why my dad? Because he is the harshest critic I know, who had actually vetoed a previous makeup artist. And guess what? My dad was smiling when the hair and makeup was done by Blush!!! The makeup trail was first: Tanika sat me in front of a large mirror so I could see exactly how the makeup went on, which I appreciated. She reviewed the photos and criteria I had sent her ahead of time to ensure we had all the bases covered. I should note that my skin is incredibly sensitive, and a lot of products break me out like nothing else. I was very pleased that Tanika was prepared with an array of high quality products for me. I also noted how impeccably clean her makeup and equipment was. There wasn't an eyeshadow dust particle outside of their designated circular containers!!! Very professional. I knew I was in good hands. I was going for a very natural look, and the whole makeup trial didn't take more than 45min. I've done a previous makeup trial that ran over 2 hours, so this was a pleasant relief.... and the makeup completely covered all of my acne scars without being cakey! Tanika has an absolute magic touch!!! The hair trial: Ashley reviewed with me the hair updo photos I had emailed her, and utilized her expertise in guiding me on what would fit my hair type and length best. I was lucky enough in that we had time to try two updos and decide between them as to which worked best. Again, I sat in front of a large mirror and had a hand held mirror as well, so that I knew the process all the way though and could adjust anything as needed. The whole experience was so much fun! We tried the two styles and picked out a winner. Ashley made the most marvelous curls and twirls in my hair, and just the right amount of hairspray and bobby pins to keep everything in place, yet still managed to make my hair look touchable. My hair normally can't hold a curl to save it's life but Ashely sprinkled some fairy dust and ensured that my hair stayed perfect for the next 10 hours. By the end of the day, I knew I had met the hairstylist and makeup artist that I could trust on my wedding day. I couldn't stop looking at myself in the mirror at how marvelous I looked!!! Oh and it gets better! Ashley and Tanika somehow managed to make me look even more beautiful on my wedding day! Absolutely mind blowing. My maid of honor and two bridesmaids looked absolutely stunning as well, and my mom was incredibly pleased at (1) how many people commented on how perfect my hair looked and (2) that people were commenting on how beautiful HER hair looked. I've been coming to Blush for Lash Extentions for over 1 year give or take some months I rest my lashes. Overall, Ashley is an ARTIST! I have difficult eyelids, their hooded and my lashes are straight and short. She takes into consideration the diameter, length, curl, placement of all my lashes. This is a long review, so in summary: Ashley is a freaking miracle and your hair needs her. I first went to Ashley to get eyelash extensions. I'd never tried them before and was nervous about having some kind of allergic reaction, which I'd read was a possibility. When I went in for my appointment she spent about 15 minutes explaining the process and making sure she knew what kind of look I wanted. I expressed my concerns about having a reaction, and she was incredibly understanding. To my surprise she suggested that we just put in a couple lashes on each side right then, and then she would fit me in the next day for the whole set if all went well. This made me feel such relief, and I was (pleasantly) surprised that she didn't charge me anything for that first visit. The eyelashes she put on didn't irritate my eyes at all, and I went back the next day to get a beautiful, thick, full set. She is extremely thorough and detail-oriented, which I appreciate, and she is also just a really nice, warm person to spend a couple hours with! About a week later I texted Ashley in panic. After a horrible haircut at a different salon where the stylist cut off way too much hair, I thought I should bleach my own hair ("well I can mess up my hair all by myself" was my reasoning, which is exactly what I did). My hair was falling out by the handfuls and the result was uneven and just ugly. To my relief, she quickly got me in the next day to see Sam, the other stylist. Sam did a great job for the hot mess rats nest that was my hair. She gave me tips on how to take care of my hair, and basically instructed me to not color or cut it for as long as possible. It's been hard but I listened. 5 months later I went back to Ashley for a trim and color. I was very ready to go back to dark hair, and I was hoping my hair would be healthy enough to dye. Ashley asked me to come in to look at my hair before my appointment, and she spent about 20 minutes looking at my hair, talking to me about what my options were for getting my hair darker without further damage, and explaining the color correction process that she would be doing. The results were incredible. Not only was the color beautiful and exactly what I wanted, my hair looked healthy for the first time in months. After my horrible haircut at another local salon, and then the even worst chemical haircut from bleaching my hair to death, I have shed rivers of tears over my hair. After Ashley got done with my hair, for the first time I cried because I was so happy with the results. Ashley is an amazing stylist, and is a fun and kind person. So...I had a long history with my stylist, and sadly realized I needed to find a new one, because the trust was gone. I called Ashley and we came up with a plan to deal with my hair. Its growing out a super short pixie and the last cut was not flattering at all to it, and made the growing out process that much more painful. I loved that she really thought about it, and even contacted me the day before the scheduled appointment to talk about what she thought was the best way to deal with it and keep my hair healthy. I have been to many wedding celebrations and have never been impressed as I was with Ashley's work. She transformed us into the most beautiful versions of ourselves. We didn't look like clowns, we didn't look extremely made up. We looked natural, with enhancements that complimented our natural contours and curves on our faces. I felt extremely gorgeous - probably the most confident I have felt in my entire life! Her team arrived on time, and placed their tools and makeup in an organized fashion. Wedding days are chaotic and somewhat disorganized, and it causes stress if your room and surroundings are not picture ready. But Ashley and her team, made their stations look like a work of art. It's fun to see our "getting ready" pictures. Another thing that made Blush Hair and Makeup stand apart from other H&M studios is that her insight on the wedding day and etiquette is on point. Ashley worked on my Hair prior to doing my makeup, so that in my pictures, I would look presentable. How could you have a made up face with MESSED UP hair?! Ashley ensured that this didn't happen... and now I flip through my wedding album with no embarrassment. Ashley took care of our wedding schedule prior to our event. I did not need to arrange H&M schedules myself. I got to be the Bride Also, we had some difficult situations arise between different members participating in the wedding, and Ashley took care in being flexible with some last minute requests and moving around of time slots. I loved the personalities of Ashley and her team. Our conversations were up building, and meaningful. I found myself laughing the whole time, and never got to shed a tear. The people I surrounded myself with were full of joy. And it consumed me with happy feelings the whole day. As an African American woman, it was hard to find someone with the experience of doing ethnic hair and color matching my skin. But she went out of her way to do research, give excellent tips, and make sure I was 100% satisfied. I wish Ashley lived next door to me, so she could make me up every day! I've been seeing Ashley for my hair and makeup needs for several years now. She has saved my life and hair on more than one occasion. Let's just say the Little Mermaid look wasn't good for me. Ashley is extremely professional and knowledgable about what she is doing. I am not one to spend a lot of time on my hair or buy expensive products. I was using off the shelf shampoo and conditioner. I was also never particularly impressed with how my hair behaved. After Ashley started taking care of my hair she began suggesting different products I could try using to improve the health of my hair. Granted, these products are a bit more expensive but I believe they are well worth it. I see Ashley every 4-6 weeks for a color refresh, but she typically only has to trim my hair every 3-4 visits. Her makeup skills are absolutely amazing. I rely on her solely now for any events I have. I know that I am in excellent hands with her. Again, this is not really my area of expertise and I don't usually have any idea what I want when I go to see her. Ashley doesn't let that stop her. I have always been incredibly happy with the job she has done. Recently, I had extensions put in for the first time. I have wanted them for a long time and was extremely excited. I didn't realize, though, how much extra work was involved in caring for them. Ashley was very patient and detailed with her explanations of how to care properly for the extensions to make sure I get the most use out of them. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my hair now. For wedding hair and make up I don't think it gets better than Ashley and her team, they were absolutely amazing! I had to do all my correspondence from out of town and wasn't able to do a make up or hair trial.
