This one is often crawling with people - lots of college students make late night runs here. Heck, even high school students come here when they're too young to do anything else (....raises hand slowly...guilty as charged). They've redone this one a lot in the last few years, which is good. It's great one-stop shopping. The clothes are hideous (go to Target instead), so that's a bummer, but good grocery selection and basically everything else you'd ever need. My family has always gone to the tailors on the upper level and think they are fantastic. There's a ridonk amount of checkout aisles. Staff is pretty friendly. And they have Lansing postcards!

WARNING: WEAR EARPLUGS IF YOU CALL THIS PHARMACY. I called…read morethe Okemos Meijer pharmacy today for one simple reason: to transfer a prescription. The employee who answered put me on hold to speak with the pharmacy manager, Ben. I hadn't asked for the manager and had no idea why I needed to speak with him just to transfer a prescription. Ben came on the phone SHOUTING. Not speaking loudly. Not sounding rushed. Shouting. It was so unexpected that it immediately caught me off guard. He shouted asking what I wanted. I explained that I didn't know why I'd been transferred to him and that I was simply trying to transfer a prescription. He yelled, "You don't know if you need assistance?!" No, Ben. I knew exactly what I needed. What I didn't know was why I had been put on hold for you. I explained again that I was transferring a prescription. His response was an angry "FINE!" I then asked whether he knew where the prescription was being transferred from. He said the tech had the information. I told him no--the tech couldn't have it because I hadn't been asked. I finally told Ben I didn't know why I'd been transferred to him, but given his behavior, I didn't want to do business with this pharmacy. I've used the Brighton Meijer pharmacy for approximately seven years without experiencing anything remotely like this. Since moving to Okemos, however, I've had repeated problems with this pharmacy. I was willing to give Meijer Okemos another chance. No. I'll drive to Brighton. A customer shouldn't have to tolerate verbal abuse simply to transfer a prescription. This was an astonishingly unprofessional encounter. If Meijer wonders why a longtime customer would rather drive to another city than use its Okemos pharmacy, Ben provided an excellent demonstration today. One star because Google doesn't allow zero.

They have a few people stocking, but they are far and few between, and often have their product carts blocking the shelves. Product costs are quite high and I get a laugh out of commercials for Whole Foods where they are touting their products as being low cost. They have certain sections which are supposed to provide more direct interaction, but there often are no staff people available, such as in the cheese section where the one person assigned that section ends up in the storage area to get stock. When the store first opened, it was fun to shop there, but no longer. I am making every effort to find alternative stores where I don't need to deal with the congestion and prices.

Way out to the east of East Lansing Michigan is the town of Okemos - a suburb really - which has a big mall and also has a bunch of big box stores near the mall and one of those is a Kroger - and the main problem with it is that this whole area is usually really busy at different times of day, which isn't always a problem in East Lansing itself, but it is around here, in and around this outdoor mall, and that makes it a little hard to come here for groceries. So yeah it can be a little tricky and once you're inside here sometimes it's a bit of a zoo as well. It's a good store though and here's what Barbie has to say about it.
