Generally the store doesn't pose problems for me but the Meijer stores in this area don't have a good deli selection. Sure there's the slicing of meat and cheese for cold cuts, however, gone are the cole slaw, potato or macaroni salads etc. These product $ides are prepackaged in the refrigerated cases. Save your money and make your own; the prepackaged sides are horrible and not the same recipe as when in deli. Retrain your palate with a rewarding taste for your tongue. Loads of recipes either online or in a good cookbook. Make your tummy giggle not gurgle. read more

I came in to get some balloons blown up. only 2 to be exact. i Went up to the customer service counter, to have someone come help me, and a man by the name of Alex was extremely rude. i Thought maybe he's just having a bad day whatever. I then go back to the counter and the lady they sent over was even more rude than the young man. I even said as she walked over "I'm sorry to inconvenience you" and she rolled her eyes. her name was Julie A. So, needless to Say. Never go to okemos meijer for balloons unless you want to get treated like a piece of shit for asking them to do their jobs. read more

It's a decent grocery store. Sometimes they are out of fresh foods or premade foods. I struggle to get rotisserie chicken. The staff is friendly. It isn't too crowded in the store but the parking lot gets busy. It also has a bottle return which is nice. read more

This store is always poorly stocked, unkept and disorganized. The premade perishable meals in the deli section have no expiration date. So no way to know if it will go bad tomorrow, or next week. In fact, for all I know, it's been sitting on that refrigerated shelf for a month. Asked the person who worked the deli counter, she had no clue either. This Meijer really needs to get its act together. Trader Joe's is going to eat their lunch (assuming it didn't expire). read more

If you shop at Meijers in Okemos, do NOT let JORDAN K be your cashier!!! I bought a beautiful cake in the bakery department, for a baby shower I'm hosting. They put beautiful lettering on it with roses, and lovely decorations. They carefully put it in a cake box, and handed it to me. I walked over to a cashier named JORDAN K. He picked up my cake, and immediately TURNED IT UPSIDE DOWN!!! I cried out, "please don't do that!" He ignored me and roughly turned my cake from side to side, and then upside down again!! (I assume he was looking for the price code, which was on the bottom. (The price code is ALWAYS on the bottom of cakes, so they can gently slide through.). JORDAN K is too stupid to know this! I said again, "Please stop doing that!" thru my tears! He just looked at me with a blank stare, and then handed me my cake, which was still UPSIDE DOWN!!!!!! He's an IDIOT!!! He never even told me he was sorry!!! After I paid for it, I walked away and lifted up the box. My beautiful cake was completely ruined!! JORDAN K ruined everything!! I was in tears!! I started crying!! I walked back to your bakery section, explained what happened thru my tears, and a sweet lady named Linda fixed it for me! JORDAN K should NOT be a cashier!! *HEY YELP!* THIS IS THE OKEMOS MEIJER! Please fix the listing! This is the Okemos Meijer, located on Grand River Ave with Okemos Rd bordering on the west and Marsh Rd on the east. This is a hypermarket concept, with 180,000+ sq ft of retail space, making them a one stop shop. They nearly have everything. they are a regional chain (HQ in Grand Rapids, MI), so comperable to a super target or super walmart that you would see on a national level. they are privately owned. They have prepared sushi in the front, which is nice (and hard to find elsewhere). The bottle return is in the back, and while it is in a big room with many machines, don't count on but a few of those machines actually being in operable condition. There is almost always a line up 1/4 the way down the main aisle of people waiting to return their bottles. Unless you get there the morning of the sale, they are almost always out of sale items, and they seemingly don't know how to replenish until the following week, so the aisles are quite often bare. What the hell kind of way to run a store is this - especially a high profile busy one? I was going to award them four stars, but I took one off for having HORRIBLE replenishment strategies/crews. Keep the product on the shelves, PLEASE! Many times I have grown frustrated, left my basket and walked out of the store to go shop elsewhere because they have nothing in stock. Other times I avoid that frustration and just go to the Lake Lansing store in the first place, which doesn't seem to have this problem, although it's not quite as high profile (read: busy) a store as this one. at least they are convenient, and the prices are decent. 3 stars. read more

First up this is the Okemos Meijer, which should probably be avoided at ALL COSTS whenever possible. Ok so Meijer is actually fluorescent-lit hell with all it's aisles and carts and feckin' PEOPLE... But it truly is One Stop Shopping - just like their old slogan used to say. You can find just about anything you ever thought you needed in Meijer Thrifty Acres. Right down to vaginal itch cream, asparagus, and bicycle helmets. Unfortunately in all of its commercial greatness, Meijer is packed 24/7. Since the Okemos Meijer is right on the Bus 1 line, all the students trek out there to keep their mini fridges stocked with taquitos and pizza rolls. But what can ya say - prices are probably the cheapest in town and they've got everything you need. Go Meijer. read more

I love Meijer. Doesn't everyone in Michigan love it? Whenever I meet anyone who has even heard of a Meijer, I feel like I'm meeting a kindred spirit. This one is often crawling with people - lots of college students make late night runs here. Heck, even high school students come here when they're too young to do anything else (....raises hand slowly...guilty as charged). They've redone this one a lot in the last few years, which is good. It's great one-stop shopping. The clothes are hideous (go to Target instead), so that's a bummer, but good grocery selection and basically everything else you'd ever need. My family has always gone to the tailors on the upper level and think they are fantastic. There's a ridonk amount of checkout aisles. Staff is pretty friendly. And they have Lansing postcards! read more

So far the whole time we have lived here, this Meijer has been renovating. It is horrible! Almost every time we come here the layout of the store changes. You end up walking back and forth trying to find what you want in the spot that it was at last week. If they ever finish the renovation maybe I can change my rating, but until then this is definitely not my favorite place to shop (sadly, this is the closest market to our apartment). read more

Again, you should not be going to Yelp to uncover fundamental information about a Meijer. If you are going to a Meijer (especially one this deep into the state of Michigan) you know what to be expecting. That said, this is certainly one of the weaker Meijer stores in the greater Lansing area. Selection is good, and the store is kept clean, but it is always packed with customers to an unreasonable degree. Another reviewer pointed out that the main bus line from Michigan State campus runs to this Meijer. That's one major component, as you'll always run into tons of undergrads who don't have cars. [to make my implicit tip explicit: if you are an undergrad WITH a car, go to a better Mejier] It's not just that, though - this Meijer has a very large service area, as it covers pretty much all of Okemos, Meridian, Haslett, Williamston, Webberville, parts of Bath, parts of Mason, etc. There are just way too many people who treat this as their main Meijer. I would say that the store is understaffed - which it is - but that doesn't even really feel fair. Even when almost all the checkouts are open and being used you'll still be waiting in line on certain days. It's less that the store is understaffed and more that it's simply over utilized. For whatever it's worth, you will also generally run into the worst and craziest customers at this Meijer. I don't really know how to describe it - even - other than you'll know it when you see it. read more

I just left the Meijer in Ionia where I only tired to purchase fresh fish. I was told that only fish I can now buy at Meijer is Salmon because that is what Meijer will only sell you. The man told me that they can not even order any other fish ! No more Meijer !!! read more

This store has issues with proper pricing and placement of product. ON several occasions I have gone checkout with items priced differently than marked. Always under staffed a shelves never seem fully stocked! The smaller store in Bath does a better job on all accounts. read more

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh yes, my almost daily one-stop shop, Meijer in Okemos! There's nothing bad to say about this place. Friendly people, great selection, tons of stuff, local produce and other grocery items, and the lowest prices for good quality. It's great to see the same faces every time I visit and know exactly where everything is located. I especially appreciate the weekly ad preview and mPerks program! I've saved hundreds of dollars with mPerks and rewards. Times to avoid Meijer for your own sanity: Rush hour: too many people trying to pick up stuff for dinner (just like you). Game days: college pukes stocking up on beer and junk food Move-in week: store is filled with college kids, foreign exchange students, and moms and dads getting their little snowflakes all those dorm needs like shopping carts full of lamps, rugs, and shelving units. Incoming stormfronts: madhouse with people stacked up into the clothing department Best time to go: early morning before any of the kids wake up from their hangovers and people head off to work. Get fresh donuts. You can't go wrong with Meijer! Just don't get in line behind anyone younger than 30 when it's busy or you'll be waiting a while. That's just life in a college town. read more

I've been to many of Meijer stores in my life...but this takes the cake for the worst. Store is filthy nearly every time I have visited. Produce is rarely stocked, and they were selling bags of chicken that were bloated (seriously, I was disgusted, you don't clearance that stuff, you THROW IT OUT). They do have some good deals on clothes occasionally though, but I drive the extra few miles to go to the new one in Bath Township. read more

They say that one of the things you'll miss most when you leave MI is Meijer. Well, I attest that that statement is true. I have moved to the central coast of CA and I miss Meijer every day. Meijer has a good selection of Organic foods, meats, ethnic foods, housewares, clothing, etc. You can get all your shopping done in one place! The overall pricing is good and if they don't have an item in stock they will order it for you. It can get crowded on the weekends, but the isles are wide enough to accommodate the carts. It is open 24/7 so If you don't want to deal with crowds you can shop late at night or early in the morning. Where I am now the stores are very basic and I typically have to make three stops to get everything I need. I wish Meijer would move to the west coast! read more

I used to work for this Meijer. I can tell you, the staff does basically all that it can to accommodate what happens at this store. Even when every lane is running, ever department is fully staffed, and the shelves start the day off full, there are still times where the store is simply too busy. Too many customers to accomodate the lanes, not enough stock for all the customers to buy, and not enough staff to assist every customer who needs it on the salesfloor. And, yes, some of the most demanding, overbearing, entitled customers shop at this particular Meijer. I remember one day we had to get ready for the MSU-UM football game. Our entire liquor aisle was fully stocked at 7am, and the lady refilling those shelves had her stockroom as full as she could, and she still sold out of virtually everything by noon, basically a 5 hour time span after "opening" (the store never actually closes) and the shelves were empty. Also, there's no nice way of saying this, but a lot of the former GM employees who shop there think that the staff are their servants. I had one lady complain to me that "when you took your courtesy phone away it made my life more difficult" and this event occurred when I was a toddler, WTF did she expect me to do about it?!? I remember another time where someone complained about us being out of a toilet bowl cleaner. The funny thing was, she ALREADY HAD 9 OF THEM IN HER CART, and couldn't figure out why we were out of stock! (she wanted 11 more) Also, never go to use their bottle returns the day after a home football game for MSU, it is absolute chaos in there, you may have to wait up to an hour to deposit your bottles. Many of the organizations and homeless people who get extra cash accepting bottles from the football game bring them to this meijer the very next day. I've seen a single couple use the machines for over and hour in a single day after a game. Despite meijer expanding into Clinton county (Dewitt) and southern Ingham county (Mason) and western Livingston county (Howell) many people who live considerably closer to those Meijers will still drive UP TO AN HOUR to come to this one, because it was built in the late 60s, and its the one they've been shopping at since they were born! In terms of merchandising, staffing, and price, its pretty close to just about every other meijer in the chain, however, and I cannot stress this enough, this store just has too many customers who feel way too entitled. The only pleasant shopping experience you will have at this store is Tuesday morning at 2 am on the general merchandise side of the store. No customers and no staff. read more

I am an avid and loyal customer of Meijer for over 40 years. I had to write a review after my experience at the Okemos location with my 84 year old Mother on Friday evening, July 3, 2015. Due to struggling to scan and bag 78 items in self check-out we finally left approx. around 1AM July 4. Recently, I shop later in the evening at many of the surrounding Meijer stores in the Lansing area. But this experience was the worst. When we arrived at Mejier to do some shopping ... the nightmare began in the check-out lane. Only self service lanes were open. My mother and I had 2 carts. This was horrible for both my mother and I to have to scan and bag the grocery and other products alone. We purchased over $280 worth of groceries and other items. Then load them after the long and tedious scanning in the self check out. My 84 year old Mother frantically trying to bag our purchases. Of course, I struggled trying to scan items...stopping the process many times. Then to watch two young employees working the self check-out giggling and laughing paying no attention to the customers problems. I asked several times for a manager or the reason why regular check-out lanes were not open .. at least one. Then had to ask for assistance in scanning (6) 24 packs of Ice Mountain spring water. Due to this poor service at Meijer within the last month visits at the West Saginaw - : Lansing & the Grand River stores I do not plan on returning to Meijer. I tried your store because the West Saginaw Mejier did open up lanes when they realized customers had large amounts of grocery or other items. And we have valued the customer service, great employees and great selections and products at Meijer. read more

Just went to this Meijer over Walmart or Kroger (which are closer) specifically because I called ahead and wanted to make sure the sushi chef was there to see if I could make a customized large order. I even talked to him personally and he told me he would be there until 7pm. I told him I would be there in 15 mins. I get there and no one seems to know where he is. One of the ladies tells me to shop around and maybe he will be back when I'm done. Fine, I would have preferred for my order to be done by the time I'm done shopping instead of having to stand and wait but whatever. I come back 20 mins later he is still not there and no one can find him or figure out how to even find him. I'm aggravated. How is it hard to find an employee that "has been gone for a very long time now." To top off the fact that I won't get my sushi, I stand in front of the deli counter over where the cooked hot food is to get dinner for my daughter. The deli meat/cheese side has a number system going and the hot food side is just a line by the register. Eventually when my turn comes up a lady stands next to me instead of behind me and they serve her first! Completely skip me. Ok whatever.... But to make matters worse, she buys every single chicken tender on the tray leaving none for me to purchase for my daughter. Now I have no sushi, still no sushi chef, no dinner for my daughter after being cut in line. TOTAL waste of my time. Should've just gone to Kroger... read more

As others have mentioned, this IS the Okemos Meijer. When it was the closest one to me (I live in Perry) It was rather overcrowed. However, the new Bath Meijer has been opened for almost a year now. I now usually go there for my one-stop-shopping needs. It's much less crowded. I imagine the 'new' Meijer really helped even things out, Meijer was smart and realized then needed another store in the area. I do really like Meijer stores in general, they're always nice, clean, and up-to-date (if you ever go to the Okemos Walmart, you'll find the exact opposite). Head to the Bath or East Lansing store if you can, but if you need to come here, it's still a great place to shop. read more
