I bought a pair of boots at the Richmond Bowleys store yesterday. In trying to reduce the amount…read moreof packaging that then has to be recycled, I offered to leave the box. At no point was I told that this would affect my ability to return the boots - in fact no mention was given to (their draconian) returns policy. Having tried to boots on at home, I realised that they weren't suitable but when I returned to the store today, was told by the store manager, Alex, that as I didn't have the original packaging there was absolutely nothing he could do and they wouldn't take them back - despite me bringing them back in exactly the same packaging I left the shop with. The manager, Alex, did nothing to try to resolve the issue, and as mentioned in other posts, has no customer service skills whatsover. I will be following this up with the head office, but I'm not holding out much hope,

Bowleys Fine Shoes are affiliated with Johnson Shoes. There is no doubting the quality of the shoes…read morethey sell. They have most of the large name brands such as Barker, Barbour, and Loake Shoes. I am a very discriminating shopper looking to purchase shoes that are quality and also English made. This is getting more and more difficult all the time, and made more difficult when the manager and salesperson lack knowledge of their products. My experience with this store began when I went in search of a pair of smart casual English made shoes. I was searching for a pair of Grenson Rhys shoes which I know are still made in England. Despite having a Grenson sign on their wall, Bowleys no longer sells these shoes. I explained to the sales lady what I was after, specifically, it must be English made and I have to be able to get a VAT refund form from them. Both the manager, Alex, and the salesperson assured me that Barbour, an iconic English brand still made their products in England. I reluctantly purchased the shoes since I had not researched Barbour shoes. Unfortunately, both the manager and the salesperson provided me with false information. Barbour products are made overseas with the exception of one of their jackets. I returned to the store with my shoes to get a refund. Alex, the manager was there and only repeated their policy of no refund only a credit note. Despite the fact he provided me with false information that lead to the purchase, he lacked professionalism and hid behind the corporate policy. Very disappointed with this store and management. They lack knowledge of their products, and when they make a mistake they do not correct it but rather hide under corporate policy statements.
