While walking the boardwalk, my girlfriend and I wanted dinner but could not nail down a place to go. We came across Loteria. The menu looked amazing and the restaurant did not disappoint. Jack was both the bartender and server, and was constantly on the move. Even with the pressure of handling a few tables and people at the bar, he was kind, friendly, helpful, and efficient. The establishment has a cool, dark mood and feel that's both quiet and calming. Our gin and vodka drinks were strong and delicious. The chips for the guacamole were hot and the tacos (pollo asado, carne molida, camaron, Al Pastor, and carnitas) were all unique and flavorful. That meal satisfied us both in ways we never expected. I spend a lot of time at beaches, boardwalks, piers, and resorts. Recently, I've been working frequently in Atlantic City and have struggled to find convenient, high-quality food, great service, and options that are convenient to my beach and boardwalk visits. I've walked by this restaurant frequently, right on the boardwalk, not just off it, but right there. It's close to the center of the AC boardwalk, so it's convenient to walk to. Whenever I've passed by, I've always gotten a friendly nod, smile, wave, or hello from the staff. I've read the special sandwich board items outside daily, and the prices are almost hard to believe. I decided to investigate because I'm tired of low-quality food, almost no health standards, and regretting spending the fortune they charged after tasting it. Well, I visited this week. It was on Thursday evening, after their dinner rush, and it wasn't busy. It's a casual place, so beachwear is fine. I was greeted by the mixologist, who was friendly, high-energy, and making some cool drinks. He said I could sit anywhere. The server, Estrella, came over and brought me a menu and a water. The menu has a lot of pleasant surprises, as you can see in the attached photos. It's not your typical boardwalk food. I know for a fact that almost all beachgoers like to eat healthy, and now you can do it without even packing up your stuff on the beach. Just eat and return. I'm very picky, as you can see from my reviews, I eat pretty healthy when possible. I didn't think it was possible on the boardwalk in AC, but it is! I ordered the Al Pastor Tacos (three), mostly because the description was tantalizing. It's all made from scratch in-house, and it came with fresh-made pineapple salsa. This didn't disappoint. The presentation and flavor were better than most very high-end places where I've had these. There are only a few areas need attention, the restroom could use a touch up cleaning, still much cleaner than the boardwalk ones, they could have better napkins, bevnaps are not good for eating tacos, and the awning outside with the name needs refreshening, it has faded from the sun, doing this I think will bring in even more customers, and there was a dead rose on the table. I also ordered the Hibiscus Margarita, which is hibiscus-infused in-house. I haven't found this level of craftsmanship elsewhere on the boards. The total price was about the same as a two-slice pizza and a beverage at the other boardwalk stands. This was such a pleasant surprise that I decided I'm trying every menu item in the next 30 days. With how good and inexpensive this is t may be busy during peak summer days at meal time, so plan to visit a little before or after most people leave the beach. We ended up at Lotería because AC decides to close restaurants insanely early any time of the year ! This place is a fun choice on the boardwalk to end a date night or kick back with friends! It's perfect for grabbing drinks and tacos. We sat inside since it was packed that Saturday, but they stay open later than other spots, which was a nice surprise. We tried the shrimp and mango tacos, and they were pretty good--honestly better than most of the food options on the boardwalk. The service was decent, especially given how busy it was, and the food came out hot. We also ordered a hard seltzer( I would've done something funner but $), which was also a bit pricey for spiked soda- but tasted just fine as I suspected it would. The last time I was here it was happy hour and I was pleased to get half priced our margaritas. It was a great time.. Now back in town again, this was a different experience they did not honor the happy hour prices. She said they don't have a happy hour and they are reworking their menu. That was disappointing. And she charged my daughter $28! Dollars for a Long Island ice tea bucket! What?! You could have mentioned that was how much it would cost when you said you can make any drink as a bucket we thought it would be $20 the same as the other drinks on the menu. My friend has tried to bring me here for lunch numerous times and every time we've tried to eat here the place is closed. Their website shows that they are open but, the doors are closed and the lights are out. The last time we tried, this past Wednesday, we waited at the door until 12:10, ten minutes passed their posted opening time according to their website. Rather than wait any longer we tool the tram ride and dined at the Mexican restaurant at the Tropicana. Food was tasty, service was excellent and, imagine is................it was open. Unlike your usual boardwalk locations where you get pushed in-and-out as quickly as possible, the team here made us feel like we were back at home, at the beach. Everyone was welcoming, the food was absolutely delicious (best tacos on the beach!) and their cocktail pricing was one of the best around. No matter where you are on the boardwalk I can't help but overwhelmingly recommend this wonderful location. OMG...stumbled on this place because I was feeling the latino music...was planning on just getting a drink but it was so good I had to have a taco....I had a drink the pain killer...I'll be honest I did drink prior but I plan on returning for lunch tomorrow for lunch and will update....anyway back to the tacos we got steak and chicken tacos and they were slamming....like I wanna come back just for these tacos!!! We were there for the first time on August 26, 2019. They -had only opened about three weeks before, and everything was good, starting with a server with a million dollar personality and an enthusiasm for the place that was infectious. We had a jalapeno infused margarita( smokey Margarita?) that was something new for us but it was a large drink, very good - a little heat lingers in your mouth with each sip - and reasonably priced. The wine selection was very limited (to the house wines only) and reasonably priced but then again, this is a taco and tequila place, and the taco and tequila choices were overwhelming. The food (beef tacos and Burrito) was well prepared, presented well (and quickly- perhaps a little too quick - not enough time to finish the predinner cocktail) in good portions, tasty and reasonably priced.
