Austin is a real piece of work. I worked with him and Lori Wells for the bloodhound services (keep in mind bloodhound services have a 7% success rate and can even make things worse). I'm extremely disappointed. Neither of them know anything about cats and made my situation worse (I lost my cat in a park that has other wildlife and they recommended I put a trap with food which attracted more wildlife overnight, this was TERRIBLE advice). ZERO support after using their service. Btw, Lori Wells isn't registered in the Austin himself was two hours late to the appointment, unsympathetic, unhelpful, rude even. I really don't recommend this service and would never engage in it again. I wish I had talked to Kim Freeman, a lost cat detective whose life work is finding lost cats, sooner instead of engaging this service. What a sham and a disappointment. I started my own search and it was ok but I just felt defeated. Talking to Landa gave me direction, motivation and hope. I put feet on the ground and for two days and nights I was doing everything possible (again get her guide to read all the things). And today, after knocking on another neighbors' door begging to look in their yard, I found my cat curled up in a ball behind someone's garage. I'm still in shock. I can only speak for Landa's consultation service when we were looking for our lost cat, but we would have never found Leda without Landa's detailed and insightful advice. Honestly it was the worst situation we could think of. Leda was a highly anxious, indoor only ex-feral who'd been displaced. She was close to two people she considered family and fearful of everyone else, including her sibling cats. For the first time in 5 years, she got curious about the outside while our other two cats were out and slipped out the door. It was a disaster. There were unleashed dogs running down the street. Her siblings ran back to the house, but she panicked and bolted. We would never see Leda again we thought. Leda would never come out during the day. She would never approach strangers. She would never stop feeling fear to respond to my voice by vocalizing. She barely vocalized at home. I tried setting up appointments with local search and rescue services the same day, but none of them serviced my area. When one of them referred me to Landa, I was skeptical. I had read the reviews. What could she tell me that I couldn't find online myself, as someone who threw herself into learning about ferals when they moved in her yard and eventually adopted them? But my partner and I were also desperate. So we set up an appointment and hoped for the best. It was the best thing we could have done. Landa's pet detection guide is extremely helpful (how to map the terrain to find the most likely place your cat could be hiding? how many lost posters and where to put them up? How many flyers and which areas should you focus on? Where to place your trail cameras and food stations? etc) but her advice about how to adjust the information in the guide to your pet is key. That's how we found Leda after two weeks of searching. When you pay for Landa's consultation session you also pay for any follow up questions. Please ask them. She replies within 24 hours, and after two weeks, Landa's advice about how to adjust our search led us to our cat the next day. (We were actually in contact every day, and Landa gave helpful advice about what to tweak or what to expect through it all. The breakthrough came two weeks later though, when we brought up a piece of information that Landa honed in on and accurately interpreted.) Unfortunately, panicked, fearful cats can't come when called. It's their instinct. As fearful ex-feral, we still had to trap Leda to bring her home. Leda was so scared and fast. After a failed attempt, we enlisted the help of a shelter volunteer who often drop trapped ferals. But Leda was run over by a car the night before the volunteer was coming to help. There were skid marks from the driver, who probably speeding down the street. We were able to bring Leda home, just not the way we wanted. For half a year, I wanted to write this review, because I really value Landa's advice and wanted share my experience. We wouldn't have gotten close to seeing Leda again without Landa's expertise. While it was hard for me revisit this event because of how Leda was taken from us, the fact that we were close at all means the world. For a cat that was a worst-case candidate for this situation (anxiety issues, former feral, not food motivated, not social with people or cats), we expected that Leda would hunker down in a hole and never come out. We never expected to be able to spend time with Leda, eating from one of our food stations, just feet away from us. Landa gave us that extra time with Leda. And if not for that speeding car, Leda likely would have been home with us today too. If you're in the same situation like we were, looking for a difficult to find cat, Landa is a great bet. I want to thank Landa and her dogs for everything they did to help me find my lost tortoise Rosie! I don't think I would have found her without all their help. She was very professional and kind from the beginning. She told me she wasn't sure her dogs would be able to track a tortoise, they usually track cats and dogs. But I begged her to come since I thought my tortoise couldn't have gotten far, and since she's only the size of someone's hand it would be hard to find her on my own. She came out early in the morning with all of her dogs, and 2 of the blood hounds did catch Rosie's scent. One of them went about 0.3 miles to the local elementary school, but they weren't able to find her. Landa sent me screen images of the paths her dogs went on while following Rosie's scent, and told me what my next steps would be. She even made a poster for me and put it up on a nearby telephone post and told me I needed to plaster the neighborhood with posters. Because her dogs followed a scent trail that lead to the elementary school, and since Landa said it was likely a kid picked her up on their way to school, I concentrated my search and the posters I made in that area. And sure enough, just when I was loosing hope, a week after Rosie escaped someone saw her walking around the elementary school, saw my posters, and gave me a call. I'm so grateful for all of the help Landa gave me, as well as the emotional support she gave me during that difficult week. She would text me and ask me for any updates, and I was so happy when I was able to tell her that Rosie had made it home. I think it takes a very big heart to do what she does. TL;DR: we recovered our escaped indoor cat after 16 days, thanks to Landa. Highly recommended. I don't think we would've recovered our cat without her. I've read some of the reviews below and want to give a more balanced view of Landa's services. First, I didn't use her canine search service so I can't meaningfully comment on it. We hired her for her consultation services, which I thought were great and invaluable for reuniting with our cat. Like I wrote, I don't think that we would have recovered our cat from our urban area without her guidance. Second, I think that it's important to understand that Landa's canine search and her advice are not a magic bullet that will bring your lost pet home. Instead, you're trying to tip the odds into your favor by doing lots of little things that together add up to a good *chance* of recovering your pet. Remember, nothing is ever guaranteed. Third, because she's done thousands of recoveries over her career, she has an informed, experienced perspective that you probably don't have. She will see what you're doing ineffectively and suggest better ways of using your limited time, energy and resources. For example, to search for my cat the first night, I walked around my neighborhood late at night calling for my cat and banging on a can of cat food, which brings her running indoors. This is a normal reaction for a pet owner- you assume that your pet will behave outside the same way it does inside. This is usually completely wrong. An indoor cat, for example, that escapes is more likely to hunker down in a building crawl space or other inaccessible area, and then not come out until it's compelled by hunger. It will ignore your calls and not respond to its name because its natural instinct is to hid from predators. This is one of the first lessons that Landa teaches- how pets behave in the real world depending on whether they're indoor only or have outdoor access. This knowledge fundamentally altered our search. With her advice and counsel, we ended up establishing a feeding station next to our building, and set up a motion activated trail cam that she recommended. After several days, the trail cam recorded video of our cat feeding 20 minutes after we left wet food out. She looked super skittish. The next night at the same time, we set up a trap and caught her within 30 minutes. We were so relieved. After 2 weeks, I was ready to give up, and had assumed that my cat was on some 'Call of the Wild' journey in the Alaskan wilderness. But this is why you need Landa- her experience gives her a logical, objective perspective, instead of the panicked, emotional response that you are likely to have. This allows you to focus on taking the action and deploying your resources in the best possible way. IMO, her consultation service is a no-brainer and is not expensive relative to the reward you're probably thinking of offering. She's a straight shooter who is very realistic with you about the prognosis for finding your pet. She's also clear about the work required on your part, which is substantial. First off in my opinion people whom have lost a dog, turtle or human have a better chance finding their pet with her dogs. Some people like myself & husband will go to extreme measures to find a lost pet. Landas prices are not reasonable, but the reason she charges that way is because when a client calls her she knows they are at the mercy of her and perhaps have ran out of options. We did read the reviews before hiring her and had doubts thanks to yelp reviews. however like I mentioned we were desperate. As you will see the other reviews do state she is flaky and unreliable which is very true. We had lost our cat and by day 4 called her, filled out the application, set up a date and put down the deposit. Landa was scheduled and ended up canceling 2 days prior (mind you my husband and I took off work to be there, so we lost money. Then the second time around, due to her personal obligations, it being summer and the heat she couldn't come till 4 days later Plus we had to pay for her hotel. As you all know time is of essence so this really made us upset. It was on day 9 of our cat missing that she came. She was on time and friendly. Her dogs search for about two hours trying to find a path/location. At the end of the tracking she gives you a map and interprets where she thinks your animal might be or the direction they might have gone in and the "marked areas" her dogs picks up the animal sent. Her interpretation was completely off. I have come to conclusion that one of marked areas ( which I believe to have been correct) the dogs must have stoped tracking at that point and kept just walking because the direction she ended up that was nowhere where I ended up finding my cat. We were devastated but she assured us the scent would not be lost and she would come the following Sunday, and the results would be just as good as if she came sooner. In the meantime we had work to do. We posted pictures all over the neighborhood. Landra said we need to get in all the surrounding yards and take pictures of the yard and terrain, and get keys to any security gates. This took days, we had to take off work but we had hope in Landra. Everyone was willing to help in any way possible. We were looking forward to Sunday at 6:30 am and our 11 year old devastated son now had more hope. Friday evening, prior to the big day ...Sunday, Landra emails us the payment info. With a bit of excitement and more heartfelt hope, we started to set up the payment...then we get another email. Landra cancelled on us. By time she cancelled on us it had been two weeks since our cat went missing. I hired Landa Coldiron to locate my lost Mini Pincher Saddy, she had been missing for about two weeks, then I discovered Lost Pet Detection. Landa was so compassioniate, her dogs were remarkable. I don't know what I would have done if had I not found Sadie, she is the love of my life. She sent me a questionnaire and we agreed I needed to have it in by 10:30 the following morning. I spent 4 hours on her questionnaire. I emailed it to her (via Google Docs) before midnight of the same day. At the same time, I sent her an email telling her that I had sent her the questionnaire, filled out, via Google Docs and gave her my phone number (in case there were any issues with accessing the document). I was at my phone the whole next morning anxiously awaiting our 1:30pm phone consultation. At 11am I checked my email and saw that my money had been refunded on PayPal. I looked at other emails and saw that at 10:26am, the following morning, she sent me an email saying "I have to have the questionnaire now..I don't know what Google docs are and see nothing in my inbox....This is a very hard case to get a profile and plan of action; it takes time and I am extremely busy.......At this time it is 10:26..If I don't have the questionnaire by 10:30 I will have to giv eyo uback the money". She gave me 4 minutes to respond. I was by my phone the entire time and she had my number. I subsequently emailed her and asked if we could reschedule. She never responded. Again, this was at a time when I was desperate to find my dog. I was anxious, sad, and overwhelmed. I had read the reviews of her doing something similar to someone else but after she did this, I realized that her professionalism is lacking and she has some serious control issues. I would not recommend using this service due to the latter two issues. Losing a dog is extremely painful and emotional and it's just too exhausting to have to simultaneously deal with the personality deficits of a complete stranger, who's is supposedly there to help you. My boyfriend and I contacted Landa after his cat went missing. We wanted to do everything we could to try to find her and get her back. We emailed Landa requesting a quote and she responded very quickly. We signed up for her services after speaking with her on the phone--she was very attentive and answered any questions we had. Our appointment with her and her dogs along was still a few days way. In the meantime she sent us a lot of information about how to find a missing cat and was easy to reach by phone/email/text. We had already made fliers but after reading through the very detailed booklet she sent us, we made new posters based on her suggestions. The next morning a neighbor called saying she saw our posters. Sadly, she found our cat on her lawn who was attacked by a coyote and did not make it. We are extremely sad about how things turned out but feel that because of Landa's advice, we were at least able to find her and have closure. I just hired Landa a couple weeks ago to help find our beloved cat Luke. She had her search dogs pick up a scent that led to a field with goat heads in them. Unfortunately the dogs could not continue in the feild because of there well being which is completely understandable. Those things are nasty. She left us with a banner and posters and gave us great tips to find our cat. We got a lead that unfortunately a cat that fit the description was poistioned and put down by animal control. Before we even hired her we went down to animal control with the date the cat came up missing and a picture and they said no we have no cats that fit that description that have been picked up. Only because a man who saw the poster called and said he had a sick cat in his yard and called animal control did we find out that a cat was picked up on that date. Animal control I know has alot going on but obviously didnt put any effort into giving us any info when we first went there. They also gave us a hard time finding the vet that was the one who put the cat down. They really acted like they could care less and told us we should of had a microchip. Which is true and I could kick myself for not doing that. I called Landa after all of this turmoil and she gave me some good advice and was so compassionate. She really does care about finding your pet or giving you closure. Im sure her blood hounds were on point because our cat did play in that feild and the mans house where the cat was found sick was right along the scent trail. Her Lost Pet Recovery Guide is very thorough and encouraging when you're going through a confusing time when you just want to do whatever you can to get your pet back. Landa is also very good over the phone. She is meticulous in asking questions to see what you might have missed. She also stayed in touch over email with me for over a month after I made the first call - and that was never mentioned as included in the phone consultation. She was always fast in getting back to me either by phone or email. I haven't found my cat yet - and there is no way I can blame her! But I know that I can at least be assured that I did everything I could, with the best help I could find. Really, you can't ask Landa to perform a miracle. I found the Missing Pet Partners on the Lost and Found Pets/San Pedro-Rancho Palos Verdes FB Page and the information they had there was very good-I also looked at some information that they had on scent trails that was pretty informative. My flame-point Javanese Tynee-Sun had been missing for 3 weeks when I contacted the Pet Detective on their directory for California-there is only 1in the whole state which was pretty surprising-and called the number and was directed to email them as they were out of town and they gave me this 818 number which I called twice before the woman got back to me. I explained my situation, which was basically that Tynee-Sun had suddenly disappeared and a neighbor had seen a cat coyote victim some days later. There is another cat in the neighborhood of similar coloring that I haven't seen in a while and I have a lot of doubt that the victim was Tynee-Sun because of the time gap-he was a cat who stuck to home like white on rice and never missed a meal. I simply wanted to know if it was viable to use a pet detective when so much time had passed and I got a real song and dance about how sometimes there was no scent in a one day missing case and she had had success in a case where the dog had been missing for 6 months. What if I just wanted to check and see if there was any scent of my cat by the coyote kill site? I got a real song and dance about this and found it somewhat incredulous that her dogs could get a clear scent of my cat from bedding or toys that had been used by my other cats too If it was a matter of a few hundred dollars, I would have rolled the dice but the price quotes that I got-$2450 plus expenses plus hotel costs for the "recommended package" and $1750 for the basic package-plus expenses plus hotel costs are ridiculously expensive and there are no other options-you have to hire the package rate even if the "search" takes 5 minutes I am hoping that the other person who was in the directory will get back with me. I had previously worked with a pet detective that I saw on Animal Planet when a cat was stolen from right outside my front door and he was much more reasonable and didn't need 3 dogs either. I guess if money is no object, take your chances. I didn't like the vibe that if I didn't take the high-roller package then probably I wasn't SERIOUS about finding my cat. And why do you need a hotel overnight when you are not that far away? We hired Landa Coldiron on Tuesday to come out on Thursday, after our beloved cat had gone missing on Sunday. We were running ourselves ragged calling for her over and over at all hours of the day and night. She gave great tips on how to make better posters and ways to lure our cat back to us. On Thursday she came at about 6:00am and spent less than 30mins on the trail with her dogs as our cat's remains we're found on a front lawn two doors down. We had no idea that coyotes had returned to our area. Landa was very kind and nonjudgmental. Though search dogs may seem extreme, after hiring her we have finally found peace as we would have never stopped looking. There are limited options for search and rescue dogs to the average citizen. So when our daughter's beloved cat got out one night she was DEVASTED. Her cat was an indoor cat, shy and quiet, not a meower. She would never stray far from home. We, really our daughter, did everything possible to get the word out to our immediate neighbors and the surrounding neighborhood so as many eyes as possible were looking out for her. Hoping she was turned in by a stranger we went to all local animal hospitals and shelters every day giving them handouts of our Lost Cat our daughter made as flyers. Our household was not doing well so for our daughter's sake we decided to hire the bloodhounds. Landa was prompt, thorough and detailed. We learned valuable information and her expertise discovered an active coyote den in the park across from our house that had remnants of several animals. Fur samples were collected from the coyote den, what turned out to be a blood stain in the dirt near our home, and fur from our cat's bed. The report from a 3rd party forensics lab confirmed a match. Sadly, though our cat was not found, which we understood from the beginning was a very real possibility, we got closure. I used Landa and Lost Pet Detection 2 weeks ago. Having the bloodhounds and jack russell terrier out and watching them go to work was an amazing experience. Each dog came in and did their separate "search". I didn't find Landa until a week after my beloved Jakey went missing in a high coyote region. He is strictly an inside cat only. Each dog ended up in the same location via different routes and found his fur above an unknown coyote den less than 30 feet behind my back door. Landa gave me tons of great information prior to her arrival - some tips I hadn't tried or thought of. She was extremely knowledgeable and compassionate in our search for Jakey. Even though it has ended in heartbreak, the "not knowing" part was so painful too. If you lose a pet, call her as soon as possible so you can hopefully avoid Jakey's horific ending. This past November my wife and I lost our five-year-old cat Molly. She was in her yard, which faces a nature preserve and just disappeared. She hasn't been seen since. After telling a close friend and animal lover of our loss she sympathized as she suffered the same situation a year earlier. She suggested we call Landa of Lost Pet Detection who specializes in pet recovery, which utilizes the use of trained search dogs. Our friend did use Landa and her dogs to some success, however the outcome was not what they had hoped. Upon our friends advice we then called Landa in hope of hiring her to help us in our quest. After an initial correspondence we then set up a payment through Pay Pal. Landa promptly emailed us requesting detailed information such as our address and the terrain around our house. We understood through her instructions that there would be a possibility that under certain circumstances it would prove very difficult to conduct such a search in rough terrain. She complained about her age...."I can't climb like I use to"...I have two dogs and I'm not as young as I used to be" Well Landa, perhaps you should sell you business and train someone in their 20's or 30's . We understood this and continued to set up a time and place to meet. Following her instructions, we informed neighbors that search dogs would be in the area and requested access to their property. We made fliers and distributed them to all neighbors with a 1/2 mile area so everyone would know about the search dogs working the area. The night before the search we checked our emails only to find that our credit card had been credited for the down payment we assessed to Landa's Pay Pal account. There was also a very short email returning our payment with a free copy of her lost pet guide. To say we were baffled and confused is an understatement. Here we were in our most vulnerable state of panic, anxiety and sadness only to be turned away without explanation. It's funny how cold the world can be when one is in the worst of situations. And Landa proved that to be true. I don't question that search dogs can prove positive results. And I also understand that this is most definitely a specialized field that takes years of training. I guess the problem my wife and I have is the cold and final way we were treated. How could a so-called professional just cut off people who are in most desperate need for answers? A few days later I did remember an important question that was never answered.... "Did Molly suffer from bladder or unitary tract infections?" Well yes she did. I felt this was important as this might help explain why Molly just disappeared. I then send Landa asking her this very question only to never have heard back. My flame point Siamese went missing and I was so sure it couldn't possibly be a coyote because he went missing after 9 a.m. After spending 3 weeks of looking for him on my own and driving myself crazy with worry, I contacted Landa. Because the time since he had gone missing had been so long, she wanted to get on the case ASAP. My first contact with her was on Tuesday and she was at my house with her dogs on Friday morning. The results were bad. Within an hour and a half, the dogs trailed my Sammie Boy and found the kill site the coyotes took him to. While it was certainly not an inexpensive thing to do, knowing what happened to my cat what worth more than the money spent. I can't imagine having gone the last 3 and a half months not knowing where he was or going through the rest of my life thinking I didn't do everything possible to find him. Not only was Landa extremely helpful and supportive prior to the search (which as I said she was able to find a scent after 3 weeks) she was totally compassionate after the search and was available to me via e-mail for any additional contact, which was always promptly returned.
