The greens and par 3's on the 9 hole course is great for those of us getting into the game and practicing our swings. I played the full course once, and found it too challenging for a novice like myself. I played the Joe Lewis course, as well, which was awful. Greens are dried up, not well maintained, and they charge extra if you bring your own caddy ($10). Lost Marsh is far superior. For a public course, this is a nice place to play on weekdays. I wouldn't dine here, as the food at public courses are typically frozen, fast- food- like.

Great refinery views from the pisser.

Every hole is like a new dick punch of backwards golf design that baffles the senses and challenges you to be your most frustrated. Our scores included 5+ hours of bitching, 3 club throws and 1.5M balls lost. If you do not hit the center of every fairway be prepared to bend over and grab them ankles like it's your creepy uncles birthday and hold on for dear life because you are about to be forcefully entered by the shittyness that is this course design One hole literally takes 2 90 degree turns. Leave your driver at home. You won't need it. Clubhouse is nice.

Second 18 hole round at this course and 2nd time eating supper. The course itself is admittedly challenging yet fun. It is not very forgiving though. Some holes may let you retrieve your ball in the high grass while others claim them entirely. Lots of hazards and tricky pin placements. Overall, greens and fairways were well groomed but some patches of overall destruction at the tee box. Rough is slightly longer than average. Today we had Ana as our supper server. She. Was. Awful. We never once saw her smile...and she only had 4 tables to handle. We had to constantly call her over for refills. When it came time for our check, she forgot to give us our 18 hole discount...when she came back with the new check, she had only discounted my fiancé's portion of the bill. When I went to ask her why mine wasn't done (I had to get up from the table and go find her because it took so long for her to come to our table), she said, "oh, you golfed too?" Wait, huh? I was wearing a golf hat with a clip on ball marker, a golf shirt and golf bottoms. A glove was sticking out of my pocket and a tee in my hair. So, what's the only difference between me and my partner? I'm a girl. Ugh, no apology either? I worked at golf courses throughout high school, college and graduate school....this girl has gotta get her head straight. Also, today, we were backed up behind a 4some throughout the round....at hole 6, we asked the guy who refilled the water jug to send out the ranger to tell the guys in front of us to let us play through....no one in front of them and they were being Chester's out there. They were joking around, sometimes taking 6 shots to pass the womens tee (!), throwing balls, and not playing at a standard pace of play. Surprise, no Ranger ever came. I played in college...I get it when you wanna get out there to play with your buddies, but they had no sense of golf course courtesy. Continually not letting us play through and driving away.

Wicker Park Golf Course - 11th hole

    Wicker Park Golf Course

    (8 reviews)

I do NOT suggest golfing at the Wicker Memorial Park Golf Course. Came in with some friends this…read moremorning and were each charged $48, but quickly found that this course is NOT worth the money. The course layout was very simple and grounds were in poor condition. They have a serious issue with goose feces laying all over their tee boxes, fairways, and greens (see pictures below). It was so bad that you had to consciously watch your step and the ball rolled in it after nearly every shot. You couldn't even swing a club in certain places without dragging it in the droppings, resulting in several instances where the ball had to be moved to a relatively clean location. The grass was so poorly cut that it was difficult to differentiate between the fairway and the rough on several holes, resulting in poor hitting conditions. There were also no ball washing stations available. Almost every hole was a straight shot from the tee box to the pin. There was very little variety or creativity in the design. In addition to all the problems we experienced with the course itself, we were STILL charged the high $48 per person rate in spite of us also all being junior golfers and there weren't many people out on the course. However, the board in the shop that displayed prices stated that juniors were charged $16 per player Monday-Friday. Higher rates on weekends are standard and understandable, but the difference in $32 from weekday to weekend seems unreasonable given that we were juniors, it is early in the season where not many people are golfing yet, and the course is in poor condition and had no special design or amenities. Furthermore, the website for the course indicates that the cost is $45 per person during the SUMMER, yet we were charged more than that today in the SPRING. If this is what their price is in April for the type of experience they provide their guests, then their REAL prices over the summer that they apparently don't care to tell you on their website must be incomprehensible. We regularly play golf as a group and enjoy several courses in the area. However, today, we have played our first and LAST round at Wicker Park. Instead, we will take our money elsewhere and pay far lower and fairer rates for a far better experience.

I first want to say I am not a professional golfer by any means, but this course has it issues…read more The grounds crew have no golf edict, they will not move for you to play on, my group had to wait on the first 7 hole for the greens to be watered. For the first 7 holes, when we would tee off a member of the grounds crew would turn on the sprinkler system for the green. I feel this should have been done in the early morning and not at 8:30. The fairways were not cut evenly and they do not bag grass clippings. The grass clipping were the worst I have ever seen.

When it did arrive, there were multiple problems for a party of five. They gave the excuse that there is a problem getting information from the new computer system to the kitchen. One star, only because zero isn't an option…read more My family and I were attending a funeral luncheon here and things were going smoothly enough. The food was pretty good, the service was polite, and we were beginning to wrap up when everything just went downhill. There were some kids playing with the piano in the lobby prior to us walking out. The owner appeared to remove the kids from playing the piano (which I was told later that this was done as to not disturb our party). Our kids wanted to play with the piano a bit and we let them hammer out a couple keys before calling it a day and deciding to head out to the car. As we were walking out, we were whistled at across the parking lot (yes, whistled at) by their Director of Operations, Erin Czajka, who then began shouting accusations that we had scratched their piano in the lobby. At first, I genuinely didn't think she could be talking to us -- it was that absurd. My kids had played a few keys before I closed it and decided we should leave. But no, she doubled down, yelling about our children as well, in front of the rest of our family and guests. Confused and more than a little shocked, we went back inside to ask what was going on. Erin, now fully committed to her meltdown, claimed she had video of me damaging the piano. She even pointed to a scratch (which was there, sure), and insisted she had proof -- all while getting louder and more aggressive. Spoiler alert: there was no video. That's when the owner of the country club came out and said: "Wrong family." Yep. All that drama, public yelling, and humiliation -- directed at the wrong people the whole time. And how did Erin respond after realizing her mistake? With a sincere apology? A shred of accountability? Not even close. She stormed off and slammed her office door. To the owner's credit, he tried to smooth things over and even offered a free dinner. But when I asked if we could at least get an apology from Erin, he said -- and I quote -- "You're not getting one." He apologized, but he wasn't the one making a scene. So to recap: our family got screamed at, falsely accused, embarrassed in front of other guests during a funeral, and then told we didn't even deserve an apology for the trouble. The food was fine. The owner was polite. But the Director of Operations' behavior was completely unhinged, and frankly, unacceptable in any professional setting -- let alone one that prides itself on customer service. Avoid this place if you value basic respect and common decency. If she has the decency to reach out and apologize for her behavior, we'll totally be reasonable and look into updating the reviews (as the dinner and other employees were genuinely very decent). Yes. This terrible mistake deserves two 1 star reviews.
