There are a lot of shelters for parties, volleyball nets and good parking. It's good for pets as well. People come here all year long and it's fairly relaxing. There are a few entrances 1) near the golfing center and 2) roughly near the volleyball nets 3) one off the pathway that leads to a nearby neighborhood. There is also this random pathway that is also right off the pathway but I do not know where that leads to. Nonetheless, you can travel up there with the exception of motor vehicles. It's also surrounded by a nearby busy intersection which really doesn't interfere with anything. Just a surrounding area. Overall, I'd recommend this place to anyone who likes the outdoors.

There is a lot of room to spread out your bean bag games and have a water balloon toss. They even have a ball field if your group wants to hit the ball around. The covered pavilion fits about a dozen picnic tables to have a place for everyone to sit and eat, and stay out of the sun or rain. They also provide a large built in barbeque stand at the pavilion. There are basketball courts for those that wish to play, and a playground for the young kids to have something to do while the oldsters just catch up. There is also a large building when you enter the park where they have restrooms (very clean with soap and dryers), vending machines, and water fountains. This is really a nice park and is well maintained and kept up. Give it a try.

They also have a lot of picnic tables to sit at and a covered seating area if you are coming with a large group of people. Currently they are redoing that area and it should be really nice when they are done. Redar park has a lot of events in the spring, summer and fall months. There is a lot to do with families for free so keep an eye open for advertising.

Almost a combination art display and memorial. Plenty of historical information, plus commentary evoking the feelings and trauma. A war memorial isn't a celebration of war, but a remembrance of the struggle, loss, and sacrifice. This one, more than most, evokes the horrors- it's a beautiful place, but parts are jarring. I might not bring kids here till they are old enough to understand history and war fairly well- some of the sculptures are fairly vivid. I could also see a vet having flashbacks- for example, from the Huey helicopter landing (crashing?) into reeds, the sculpture of a soldier near a dead comrade, etc. Definitely not whitewashed history.

It demands a certain respect to be shown to our citizens and military members. I thank each and every service member for the sacrifices they have made, some gave their lives so that we may live ours in happy, blissful ignorance of the threats to our livelihood. Because of those brave souls we have freedoms most other nations citizens could only dream about! We are lucky to be part of such a great nation, truly we are. On to the review though, This place is very well maintained, clean and a real joy to walk through. The brickwork on the paths is beautifully laid and has a certain elegance to it. Plenty of benches for you to sit on and think or relax. Night lighting could be better, the exhibits are lit well however, the path could benefit from a wee bit more. I do like the fact that the flag is ALWAYS in good repair, nothing pisses me off more than a tattered flag. I'd definitely recommend stopping by to see it a least once.

My relatives have been gathering here once a year for over 10 years. I don't happen to make all of…read moreour family picnics, but have always enjoyed them when I do. Two of my younger cousins organize the picnic and do a very fine job. They reserve a section for our group. This year we were at picnic site 4, which was across from Pavillion A. We really enjoyed this location. We were able to feel comfortable on a hot, sunny day due to the shade provided by the trees in the area. We had a reasonably short walk to the restrooms. Restrooms have an adequate amount of stalls and are usually pretty clean. We arrived around 1:30 PM and parking was still very good. We were able to get a spot very close to our picnic site. In past years, I don't ever remember any problems parking, although I might not have been quite so close to our site. There is a splash pad and playground that the younger children have enjoyed over the years. In past years, some family members enjoyed the golf course. If I wasn't so busy catching up with my family, I would have liked to check out the dog park and nature trail. Well, there's always next year : )

So if you walk or run like crazy and need a drink or some grub it is there! The place is ideal for kids because it's a short trail and is near Reeder Park that has a good playground! In the summer on Thursdays there's a farmer's market and other fun events. I live close so I use this trail a lot. You can walk, rollerblade, run, bike, walk your dog (limited to the trail, pick up poop!! They have some spots with baggies) and even someone in a wheelchair can use this... Skateboards are allowed too! It's clean and well maintained.

Don't read the old reviews of Wicker Parks dog park! They redid and reopened it in May this year…read moreand now it's completely different and there is GRASS!! The park is paid now, $25 a year for residents that include Highland, Munster, Whiting, Hammond and East Chicago (I believe). It's $100 a year for non-residents. Pitbull and pit mixes are not allowed. There are 2 sides to the park and they open one at a time to allow the grass to stay nice and then switch to the other side when it's time to change. There are brand new benches, large trees for shade, and waste bags are always stocked. I bring my dog here every day and everyone is always very friendly and respectful.

Not bad, it does get pretty dusty because there is a serious lack of grass at the dog run…read more The dog run is a nice fenced in area directly off US 41 and there is parking available either on location or you can park at the Wicker Park Golf Course and use the running path to get there. The park is busiest (and most fun) on saturday mornings when there are plenty of dog lovin' people around. Do bring some water for your pooch because I've looked and looked, but couldn't find a fauces, fountain or spigot anywhere. Considering how few off leash dog runs are in this area, I'll be coming back from time to time.
