They have a couple of large parking lots there to stash your vehicle while visiting. One of the main entrances is right past one of the Tinley Park fire stations. Many paved trails to walk around the lake, with a high route and a low route to vary up the scenery. On the high elevation they have a number of picnic tables and the like for those that want to have a meal. They also have a large playground there for the kids to keep busy while the parents chill. The lower route is mainly for jogging and walking ... although you'll find a lot of bikes in the area also. At the other end you'll find baseball and soccer fields, skateboard, and basketball too. They also have a little dock off which you can fish. Be forewarned - no dogs allowed, which is good for some people and not so much for others. This is a sort of difficult kind of place to find, but that keeps it a treasure.

Went with a friend that needed some extra credit for a history class and didn't really know what to expect. Once you get down there you can walk around different american/british/german camps and see all the reenactors doing things like digging foxholes or cleaning their guns and other soldier type stuff. They also have a schedule where events like an FDR actor does the speech from after the pearl harbor bombing. The main draw is the battlefield skirmish though. They bring out the artillery and tanks, and it's loud. Lasted about a half and hour and gotta say it was entertaining. You need to go into it with an open mind though or else it might not be too fun. I liked going around and asking a few questions to the soldiers about really small details like why there's certain patches on their uniforms, just to keep them on their toes. These guys knew their stuff. If you like history this is a cool place.

There was so much to take in! It's a great place for a photoshoot, relaxation, or just enjoying nature! There were a few groups relaxing around the gardens on benches or in the gazebos. Over the small bridge was a stream and a small pond with koi fish & turtles. I wasn't able to see any of the fish in the pond. The water was pretty murky, but a few did pop up. I was able to spot a few turtles! I had a fun time exploring the botanical gardens. The property was very clean and well maintained. It was extremely peaceful & a nice escape from the normal day to day to experience nature's beauty!

During the summer the Deep River Grinders play vintage baseball on scheduled Sundays. They are so much fun to watch and interact with. It's a great time for all, young and old alike! One takes you down the hill from the parking lot out onto a boardwalk through the marsh area, which is full of plants, flowers, and animals in the summer, and out onto an overlook to the river. Heading up takes you to a 60 foot high marsh overlook that sways just a little bit and gives you a great view of the area. Fishing is permitted from the lower deck. The park is free to enter. A very enjoyable walk.

I relented and we're slowly coming to the realization that river fishing is much different than lake fishing. (Jersey N already advised me of that, but I didn't listen) While waiting for the fish to bite, I sat in the covered picnic area. It has a wood burning fireplace and several benches along the river to sit and eat or to just take in the scenery.
