What is great about the location is you are a very small walk down to the river bank, but way up high on the cliff to get a great view of the area. When the sun gets past 7pm, the oak trees give a lot of shade for the dinner hour. You are also near Old Baldy trailhead if you want to do a quick climb up the tallest peak there. Parkview has all of the amenities like a general store, full service bathrooms that are kept clean, and daily trash pickup. The wifi is pretty unreliable but does work with a delay like satellite internet. If you have AT&T for cellular service, you will be fine in the Concan area. Everyone else will suffer the total disconnect from the virtual world, which you were hoping to get away from, right? I usually go during Father's day week which seems to be a very busy time. It's hard to get a reserved spot during peak times, so be sure to ask to get on a waiting list.

The grounds are above & beyond what you'd expect. From the minute you drive in the entrance & see the huge windmill & the flags you will know that you have entered a property that is loved and taken pride in. Jamie & B (Bianca) in the front office are friendly & helpful. They gave us easy directions to our spot & gave us plenty of info on things to do at the resort & in the surrounding area. We enjoyed talking to them so much! They were great! We drove across a small bridge in the resort into the Adults Only section & I swear I heard the birds chirping a happy little song welcoming us...lol We looked into the water & my bf said "I wonder if I can fish?! (He could & he did!) We had an end lot in the center. It was a perfect spot w a nice, sturdy metal table & 4 chairs. The area was quiet & peaceful. At night all we could see were stars...and more stars. This is the place to be for stargazing. At the time we still had our 24 ft RV & it fit perfectly. On the outside of the circle in the Adults only area there are huge spaces for larger RV's & motor homes. During our stay we walked up to the office to buy a few things & the prices were actually reasonable compared to other RV resorts we have stayed at. We loved the Adults Only pool & hot tub. We wish more resorts actually thought about the fact that there are a lot of Adults that want to relax at the pool without kids yelling, screaming & splashing them. Some of us are trying to get away for a wknd & relax. At other resorts there are kids running wild everywhere with little to no supervision. If you book here, especially in the Adults Only area, you will actually be able to enjoy a tranquil getaway. You will hear the wind blowing, not kids screaming. Don't worry though, if you're traveling w the Brady bunch you can book one of the many lovely spots in the other section of the resort. There's a pool for everyone that is also very large & nice. There you can enjoy the sounds of your children screaming & splashing with new friends! Speaking of friends, we met some of the most wonderful people on our last trip to Buckhorn Lake. At some RV resorts I have heard /read reviews complaining that long term tenants are unfriendly. Well, we found just the opposite. We met numerous people who stay at Buckhorn for months at a time and they were all so welcoming! One evening we ended up in the front "yard" of an amazing couples spot for hours. They were friends w a bunch of other regulars at the resort also. Our absolute favorite person at this resort has to be Chris! He came into the pool area our first night when we were in the hot tub. He was just making sure everything was turned off (lights) & locked up. There's a code to get into the very clean & nice restrooms. We ended up talking quite awhile. He told us all about the fun events that happen at Buckhorn Lake RV resort. This isn't JUST an RV park. It is truly a resort with plenty to do OR not do. Your choice. My bf had fun fishing in the early morning. (Catch & release) There is a fitness center & game room. They have tennis courts! There is also a really cool outdoor bar area near a big red barn for Happy Hours & Potlucks. They have an awesome theater room where they will soon be having a Super Bowl party. Every wknd they plan activities for their guests. There's no pressure to join but everyone is welcome! Chris takes care of the grounds & even stops by everyone's RV in the mornings to get your trash for you. He has the best personality. He made us want to come back bc he made us feel so welcome. I wish everyone had the kind of positive attitude that he has & loved their job as much as he does. He may never know this but he was a huge reason why our 1st visit to Buckhorn was such an excellent experience. If you ever see this, THANK YOU SO MUCH CHRIS! If you want to enjoy the Hill Country in the Kerrville area there can't possibly be another place that could come close to being as great as Buckhorn Lake RV resort. This is just my opinion though. The fact that we booked 3 more visits in advance the day we checked out is proof enough! This place books up... Apparently we are not the only people that know how great this place is. We visited Buckhorn the first time in September 2022. I decided to wait & visit more RV resorts before posting my review. I can tell you without a doubt that this resort is excellent. In comparison to others in the Hill Country it has more activities & more amenities. It is definitely more beautiful! We have stayed at other great places but there is something special about Buckhorn Lake. Go & find out for yourself! Our next booking is coming up & we can't wait! Btw, I have so many more photos but they are on my old phone. I'll add them ASAP!

There's a small river that crosses through the camp site, but the tides were low and it didn't look like you could kayak or tube in it that weekend. It was nice to watch the ducks swim by though. I like that the campsite includes clean restrooms and showers. Each tent site provides you a bench, trash bin, bbq grill, and fire pit. Unfortunately, there was a burn ban in effect during our stay, so we couldn't light a wood fire. There was plenty of space between us and other campers, so it didn't feel cramped. One thing that could be improved is that the field is pretty rocky. We couldn't seem to find a spot for our tent that wouldn't drive a stone in our backs at night. The camp site offers kayak rentals, but it gets to be quite expensive. Visitors can also use the swimming pool located by the front office. If you're feeling hungry, want to grab a drink, or enjoy some entertainment, right by the entrance is a restaurant bar. They've got live music most nights.

It's more of a camper site with a dry-ish field nearby. I feel that this site just had extra land so it offered some camping grounds but you're basically in people's backyards on both sides, and near a highway so lots of car noise. Maybe there are sites offered deeper where you're not so close to roads and peoples homes. Overall, I still enjoyed my trip, but I would probably only return here if I had an RV Camper. Not the best spot for tent camping.

The keypads to enter get so hot and it is difficult to enter your code mid-day. You have to stand there for a while and wait for it to recognize what number you tapped because of the delay. Not too fun when you have kids and everyone's fingertips are burning when they try to enter the code. 2. I don't believe the cabins are cleaned thoroughly between users. When you leave you have to gather dirty linens together, take out trash, and sweep. I think that's the extent to the cleaning done, with new linens and paper products being added. On our most recent trip I brought counter wipes and wiped both bathroom countertops, and the kitchen counters, and the wipes had dust/dirt all over them. 3. Mysterious stains on our washcloths 4. I don't think the floors are mopped between users, we had an unknown substance on our bathroom floor, and we walked around in socks that turned totally brown. 5. Bring pillows if you come! Each bed comes with 2 flat pillows. The beds are very firm, too. So if you like a softer bed and bigger pillows, accommodate for that. 6. If you want to use your patio you have to clean it. Chances are it'll be COVERED in bird poop. It would be nice if the cleaning person/crew gave everything a good wash out there before the next users came. 7. If you swim in the river there's no where to put your wet items. We wanted to hang them on the patio furniture, but again- everything is covered with bird poop. We didn't want to make creamy bird doo on our swim tops. 8. The entire place is sand and rock. To enter your cabin is a small door mat, and when you step inside your cabin you may or may not have another door mat. Unless you lay a towel down inside and have your family wipe their feet off, dirt will be everywhere. Overall we had a good time as a family. But, as a family with many young kids we bring lots of gear and are ready to just relax when we get there after the long drive. It's unfortunate at the amount of dirt and dust and bird poop. I'd like to just be able to let my kids play without having to spend so much of my own vacation cleaning before we settle in, and also cleaning when we're ready to leave like an Air Bnb makes you do.

There is no television signal in the valley, but there is Dish equipment you can get from the office at no charge. Highly recommend it. Towing on Cty Rd 348...I would recommend only doing it from 83, which is kind of a wheel-gripper itself. 348 coming from 127 in Concan would be a nightmare. Once you're unhooked and settled in, take a drive across the river on 348 and you'll see what I mean. You'll love this park, and you'll love the owners. Despite the name "Foxfire Log Cabins", they have quite a few properties scattered about Vanderpool that are older vacation homes, which is where we've chosen to stay both times. These typically offer great views of the hills, some with lots of beds for larger parties, spotty cell service, full kitchens, cable TV, a few are pet-friendly, and all fairly close to the beautiful trails of Lost Maples State Park. They have a lot of these homes, which all offer something a little different at affordable rates so you could definitely find one perfect for what you're looking for. They certainly have log cabins but they're all kind of bunched around each other near the main office and when we're wanting to drive out that way, we want solitude more than anything, which is what you'll get at one of the surrounding homes. We've stayed at their Creekside Lodge and the Farmhouse. Creekside is located on a beautiful creek, which is dammed at the edge of the property if you'd like to fish or take a dip in the cool water if you're brave enough. With a gas grill and a large porch with rocking chairs, it's easy to forget your troubles as you listen to the sounds of the creek babbling by. No cell service. The Farmhouse is located on a larger piece of land near a very shallow (ankle deep) part of the Sabinal River. The house probably sleeps 18 people comfortably and has gas and charcoal grills for your cooking pleasure. Some cell service in certain areas of the house. A campfire pit is between the house on the hill and the river below and offers an unobstructed view of the night sky. Without the distractions of day to day life, and surrounded by the hills, its easy to enjoy yourself and reconnect with your family. You also get a sense for how wonderfully long a day could be if you weren't wasting it on the internet. 4 stars. Highly recommend.
