PRO TIP: I checked in on Yelp, and got a 20% off offer. (As of 7/11/22) I read amazing reviews of this place, so I wanted to try it, not listening to my boyfriend who said we had food from this place before. It must not have been memorable the first time- but that was last year when there were more COVID restrictions, so I don't try to base my reviews on that. I always try a place twice. In any case, I was craving ceviche or a cóctel de Camarones (shrimp cocktail) so I searched Yelp and found Los Sarapes. We ordered takeout. I ordered: (my rating are out of 5) Cóctel de Camarones (sized medium) 3.75/5 Pros: -The medium came in a huge cup. I thought they may have given me a large by mistake. -It had about 16 shrimp of various sizes in it and they tasted fresh. They weren't too raw or too cooked (by the acid), they were just right. -It had a lot of avocado; there were more chucks of avocado -and I mean like good size squares - than there were shrimp, and the avocado was probably the best I've ever had. I mean it was perfectly ripe and full of flavor. Cons: It was super watery. If you look at the picture I posted, you can see that there is like no color to the liquid in the cup. Usually, Mexican shrimp cocktails have an amazingly red broth/sauce of tomatoes, onion, cilantro, and lime. But, when I dumped it into a bowl, I found that a lot of the tomatoes and onions were at the bottom. The broth still wasn't red, but it was better. I added a good dose of Cholula and Tapatío land then it was fricking delicious. - I wasn't given the traditional crackers, which is fine. I prefer to eat it with chips or tostada, but I wasn't given a separate order of those to eat it with either. I had to use chips from our chips and salsa order. Cheese enchilada 2/5 Pros - It had good tasting melted cheese in it. - The tortilla seemed fresh Con - Even though the tortilla was red, there was no sauce and thus, there was minimal flavoring to it. Large chips and salsa (2/5) Pros: - Good size bag for the chips. It was one of those brown paper lunch bag sizes. Cons: - The salsa was pretty small to be considered a large order. It also had minimal flavoring. There was no spice to it. It tasted like mainly tomato. My boyfriend's order: (his ratings are out of 10) Los Sarapes taco: 9/10 Pros: - Super flavorful. This is a mix of steak and chorizo and man, even before adding any salsa, it tasted amazing! I think this might be his new favorite taco. Pollo taco: 3/10 Pros: - good amount of chicken Cons: - Bland. - Not very juicy Al Pastor taco: 2/10 Cons: - Bland - No piña. What is Al pastor without pineapple? They have Mexican coke!!! Woot! Overall, would I try this place again? Yes. My boyfriend would get only the Sarapes tacos with onion and cilantro. And I want to try their tostada de ceviche de pescado. I would get the coctel de Camarones again, but it definitely needs some spicing up with Cholula y Tapatío. :)

Chilaquiles Rojos O Verdes - A plate of Mexican dishes including cheese-covered enchiladas, a side salad, and a fork, with additional dishes and bowls visible in the background.

The food was not great, as someone that has tried many places this food had no flavor, the red sauce tasted so watered down, absolutely no flavor, and the menudo was rated at 2/10 by my dad.

Great Mexican in Midlothain, another great Mexican place on the south side of Chicago. This gets the extra star for "not blasting their music as loud as Calienté does" according to my father. I love their green sauce, super tomatillo-y with a little bit of tang to it. Their red has the nice roasted flavor but isn't too killer. Their salsa is good and guacamole is nice and fresh. If you need the heat they carry El Yucateco, that's the hot sauce Mexicans use and if you need anything hotter than that you bring your own insanity sauce. I ordered the Mexican skillet which provided a more than generous portion of chorizo cooked with potatoes. Eggs were cooked overeasy and the yolk blended in really nicely. It is to be noted that their beans are really good, which sounds ridiculous but they were definitely above average. Most places will just dump them out of the can and heat them up. Same with their rice, it was flavorful and a little tomato-y, which reminds me of my mothers old recipe. My girlfriend ordered the chicken taco dinner and she really liked it. The chicken was nice and moist-- not crazily seasoned or marinated, but cooked right. My dad ordered the steak dinner and I could say the same about the steak -- nice char, easy to chew. His plate came with some cactus which I got to try, and that was pretty good; kinda tangy, nice texture. I also liked the horchata, which had a nice amount of spice to it and wasn't gritty! The service is good and I should mention that the time before we were here, they gave us a little sample of tongue -- it wasn't exactly my thing, but the fact that they let us sample it I was grateful for. Plus if you DO like tongue, it is likely very good. (It did taste good, I just wasn't a fan of the texture.) So maybe if you've got a kid or are otherwise curious about something it seems that they will let you sample at least the not-so-expensive things. This place may not be off a main road, but it is certainly not to be passed up if you need a new Mexican place.

Parrillada For Two - Two plates of Mexican cuisine with rice, salad, and beans are on a table, with grilled vegetables in a metal container in the center.

The food was good don't get me wrong but that is not what I'm rating it on . I am rating on the service, the service was not good . My waitress was just walking past me and my family not even looking at us and did not even give us plates . we wanted to eat Parrillada and we asked before placing our appetizer , if we could order right after we received the appetizer but she did not come , so when we finished we tried to find our waitress to order dinner but she was no where to be found , not until we had to walk up to her to get her attention . I get that you are working to earn money , but if you are going to work in a restaurant, you might as well as do it right. It is no surprise why the is restaurant was as empty as it was on a Saturday night.

The place has a welcoming, casual atmosphere. There is choice of seating: booth, table, or bar side. It's clean and well attended. The wait staff was nice. The chef even came to clarify some things on my order (how I wanted my egg) and checked on me afterwards with future suggestions. I'll be back. I seated myself in a booth. Fresh made chips and salsa choices were brought to the table with napkins and utensils. Rhodes chips were just right. They were made from good tortillas, crisp fried in clean oil. I could have just had that for breakfast. I needed proteins, so I chose the Chilaquiles con Huevo in green salsa. I was told the red was not spicy but can be adjusted to my liking. My eggs (2) were over easy (well executed), served over cheesy corn fried tortilla strips with sour cream, tomatoes, refried beans, rice and guacamole. I make it through half the dish. The rest was taken home and eaten the next day. Just as tasty. I have more s dishes to try and a Summer month to do it.
