Los Planes de Renderos is a casual restaurant that features Salvadorian dishes with some familiar Mexican dishes which can be found in the upper right corner of the menu, I had the pork and cheese pupusa and a chicken tamale. The pupusa was essentially a grilled flour tortilla with melted cheese and roast pork inside. It was pretty good. The tamale with chicken and potato inside was better, but it became room temperature as I was eating it. The special came with rice and refried beans. I thought the service was just fine. Positives: Big Dining Room Freshly made pupupsas - you can hear them flatten them with their hands in the back! Lots and lots of curtido is served so no need to ask for more! The lady was super sweet. Standard soupy style beans and rice. Hot sauce was mild but flavorful. Downsides: Parking Near a really really busy intersection. Only a few options for fillngs - meat, cheese, and beans. No credit card charges on Tuesdays or under 10 dollars. ( I have no clue why not on Tuesday's - but that is what the sign said!) read more

I swear I live in the most perfect place in Hayward. So many restaurants around my place in walkable distance. The only bad part is that most of these places are sub par. But when a craving hits these places do hit the spot. That being said these are not the best pupusas or best pupusaria. But when cheese and loroco are needed then this is the place. We walk in to a semi empty restaurant, with no one to greet us. We sit down to find the menus are already on the tables. We look the menu over a few times and still no waitress or host to be found. Finally someone comes out and takes our order. We order the chicharon with fried yuca, seven sea soup, and of course pupusas. The chicharon and fried yuca came out and it was not what I was expecting. It was only three pieces of chicharon. It had curtido but no salsa? I did not understand but I was so hungry we ate it all. The pupusas came out next. I thought they were average and nothing to write home about. Like I said they where pupusas to satisfy the craving. The seven sea soup came out last. It had lots of sea food but tasted to be frozen. It had muscles, salmon, crab, shrimp, scallops, cat fish, calamari. Broth was good but would not order it again. The service is spotty the dishes are spotty. Even the specials written on the wall are spotty. Would only come here for pupusa cravings but that is it. read more

Thanks to Monday night's Off the Grid across the street, I began noticing this little place which I must have passed hundreds of times. The lady said 20 minutes and my food was ready when I arrived. Personally, I don't think 20 minutes is too long to wait for fresh and tasty food! Yummy pupusas and I like their pickled cabbage salad that they give you as a side. The woman at the counter was VERY friendly and nice! I thought the decor was cute. Small parking lot to the left. If it's full, just drive over to the next side street--there is plenty of overflow parking for the Ranch. I will definitely be back--I liked the flavors, which were a welcome relief from our many, many Mexican restaurants in Hayward--so many dishes taste almost the same. Had pupusas, rice and beans, and my butch had the combo with a tamale and enchilada. The place is a diner type atmosphere and very clean. It was dead when we went in at 2pm on a weekday. Waitress super friendly and good. I realize I'm a niche with this, but I'm annoyed that they put cheese in stuff when it's not listed on the menu. For example, the zucchini pupusa has cheese. The rating would be low 3 high 2 only because of the chipped paint and ants traveling along the walls that my date noticed when we walked over to our booth. I'm not sure how an authentic pupusa is supposed to taste like, but I've tried enough pupusas from different highly regarded/rated Salvadorean restaurants in the Bay Area to have an idea of what tastes good. What I really like about the pupusas here is that they're surprisingly not greasy yet still filled with flavor! I also dig the rice flour they coat the papusas with - gives the exterior a nice, slightly crunchy texture which makes the pupusa more interesting to eat. The curtido and salsa were OK, and the tamal was forgettable. Stick to the pupusas and Salvadorean beer. read more

Indeed, they had some of the best pupusas we've had in a long time, and the chicharon was flavorful while not being overly greasy (though the portion was smaller than what I'm used to). People who came in after us got our food before us. When we did finally get our food, it was good. We got 3 pupusas to split between us and a side of the fried yucca. I would give this place 5 stars if the service was a little bit faster... we went to go eat maybe 2 weeks ago and the waitress was very nice and very courteous, we like it but honestly waiting 50 min for 4 pupusas was too much. This review is strictly for the Pupusas and Platanos con crema y frijoles only at this establishment. Finding good Pupusas in Hayward can be a challenge since i have been spoiled by years of El Zocalo on the mission in S.F. Alas, the Mission El Zocalo closed, and now i live in the East Bay, not famous for Pupusas. If you are going to name your restaurant "Los planes de renderos" your pupusas better come correct and be on point. I remember the Pupusas from El Salvador at los Planes the Renderos very fondly. When i was a kid, they were enormous and crispy and oozing with cheese. Curtido (pickled slaw) and Salsa de tomate (tomato hot sauce) to top them off are a must. Some people don't eat curtido or salsa, i look at them funny, but respect their appreciation for the Pupusas. Los Planes de Renderos did not dissapoint. The humble and small interior has its charm that reminds me that its not the looks of the place, but its all about the food for me. Its small with the mandatory painting of a traditonal scene in El Salvador over the dining area. The tables were blue to represent our flag like most Central American flags. I ordered one Pupusa de queso con Loroco (cheese with Loroco) Loroco is a Fernaldia pandurata ,a vine with edible flowers, widespread in Mexico and Central America. Look it up on Wikipedia. The other Pupusa i ordered was queso con chicharron ( cheese and pork mix). The Pupusas are standard hand tossed tortilla size. I took a bite before i passed judgement since i prefer bugger Pupusas, but the cheese blend was on point. The loroco tasted fresh and cheese was balanced with great loroco flavor. Some loroco pupusas are lacking loroco flavor but not this one. The Chicharron Pupusa had great pork flavor as well. I was also glad that the Pupusas weren't overly oily and soggy which is a turn off for me. The Curtido was standard cabbage carrot and onions, but the second i tasted the salsa de tomate, i was taken back to the traditional salsa de tomate flavor i grew up with in El Salvador. I dont know how to describe it, other than most places serve salsa for tortilla chips and tacos as their Pupusa salsa. No knock on that type of salsa, but that kind of salsa is not for pupusas. Im glad los planes got it right. My wife ordered platanos com crema and frijoles ( fried plantains with sour cream and refried beans. If you haven't tasted plantains made Central American style, you are missing out. They were standard fried platanos, not bad but not great. The crema served tasted good, and the refried beans were also good. The pupusas definitely took the spotlight for me, and i would for sure come back again and sample some more of their food, but i will still order at least one or two pupusas from them. Parking will be a bit tough since they are off mission, which is busy. There is a small driveway/alleyway next to the restaurant and you may miss it the first time you drive by.but if you can find parking, its worth it to dine in or takeout Pupusas here. read more
