Amazing authentic Mexican food and friendly fast service! My mom is very picky as she makes the best Mexican food. However, we have been here at least three times this week. Mainly due to my dad being hospitalized around the corner but each night we have come and tried different entrees and all have hit the mark. We have had their quesibirrias which are large and flavorful, the super burritos with a generous portion of meat, green enchiladas and great ratios of everything else. Ate so fast we forgot to take pictures. We have also had their street lengua tacos and while these were good they needed a touch more salt but were plentiful. They have a nice selection of agua frescas from pineapple to Horchata to Jamaica and Coke fountain products. Their chips are fresh tasty and free with plenty of salsas to satisfy every spice tolerance level from mild to hot! Finally we tried the churros which I dare say were a bit dangerous (must try but full of sweetness) so only had one! We got the nacho plate with two kinds of meat - Birria and Al pastor. Both meats were incredible, the birria was stewed well, flavorful and tender and not grisly like some stew meats can be. The Al pastor was nicely grilled and not too fatty, much better than the last time I was there. My only complaint is the guacamole does not taste nor look like it was made on premise. Otherwise, it was one of the best nacho plates I've had! They have an open salsa bar with lots of choices for salsas as well as pickles and pico de gaio. I also got the Jamaica which was absolutely delicious and probably the best I've had state side so far. We were greeted right away and ordered paid and sat down. As someone who moved to Castro Valley from Hayward, I can honestly say that the choices for Mexican food isn't as plentiful. Im kinda particular about Mexican food because not many places has the more exotic meats choices like cabeza, lengua, and my favorite tripa. So as I was settling in to Castro Valley, I was very happy to have found Tacos El Campo. I have been here about 10 times in the 7 or so months I have been living here and have enjoyed every meal I ever had. The family that runs the place is very nice every time I come in. They do offer a discount if you pay cash to make sure you disclose that when ordering if you are paying by cash or card. The food comes out really fast, Id recommend ordering there in person instead of calling in so your food can be hotter. A MUST try is their vampiros, which I have never seen on a menu before coming here. It is basically a marriage between a taco and a grilled cheese sandwich. I have been to a lot of taquerias and not many places have these on the menu so I cant stress enough that you should give these a try. If I was younger, I could easily put away 5 of these and a big bottle of Mexican coke. If I tried that now, Id be asleep for the rest of the day and probably gain 5 pounds but if you dont care, go for it, it's a good way to put yourself to sleep. I have tried their burritos and tacos and they are solid, I usually get tripa or cabeza. Their tacos some with a side of grilled peppers and onions. There is also a good sized salsa bar as well. While I do miss Hayward, Tacos El Campa has made adjusting to life in Castro Valley much easier. Last 2 times I've been they get my order wrong..first time I was here I got tacos de asada but they put cheese on. I went back to get new ones and the girl said if I want new ones? Um yeah! She made it seem like these have cheese they're more expensive. Ok I don't eat cheese. I dont care about their price. Today I went back for a torta and said no cheese. Heard good things and ordered on doordash. Had a number of problems. First I ordered what is called aqua Fresca and is described as Mexican fruit water on the menu. I ordered the strawberry and expected a refreshing fruit infused water. Instead I got strawberry horchata. I cannot stand horchata. They need to update their description. Second I ordered the enchilada meal which is $25. I cannot eat sour cream and asked for no sour cream. What I got was the meal with a massive amount of sour cream dumped on it. Took a nice walk for dinner here. They have quite a large menu. You walk up and order then find a seat. There was a lot of seating, bit I enjoy sitting by the window. They have a big tray of chips and a salsa bar. The green salsa was my fave. The orange salsa was good too. It looks really spicy, but it has a mild kick. While it was Taco Tuesday, the Taco Salad looked appetizing. We ordered that. Oh forget about the taco salad at Taco Bell and come over here. This is much much better. My family and I went there for the first time yesterday . We ordered the taco salad , the large shrimp cocktail and carnitas nachos. My mom ordered a soda in a bottle and I had water in a plastic cup. When I went back up to the counter to ask for a cup for my mom's soda, the lady at the front told me it would cost me $4.00. I said I bought the soda, I just want a cup. She said, $4.00. I told her, "forget it". Once you order, you can choose a variety of salsas from their self-serve bar with pretty much anything you could want to add to your meal or just to dip your (free) chips in. They also have a small selection of beverages, including Jaritos and beer. I ordered the super quesadilla, which was very tasty. My family chose a variety of options, such as birria tacos- burritos and nachos. Portion size was great as well. (I had to take half of mine home). Once inside, the menu is prominently displayed and you can order directly at the counter before taking a seat. We ordered for takeout and didn't have to wait too long for our food to be prepared. They also have a self serve salsa bar so you can get whatever condiments you need. Our tacos were pretty good overall. Not the best I've had but certainly not bad. There have been a number of food establishments that have inhabited this location, this one could have staying power, but it's hard to say. Carnitas taco and chile verde burrito met my standards. Where they lose me is having an abundance of lettuce in the super quesadilla. Lettuce really has no place in a quesadilla, and it seemed there was more of that than there was cheese. We ordered food to go last Saturday night near closing time (around 8:30pm) and ordered 2 quesabirrias, a super shrimp burrito, and 2 carne asada tacos. I was getting some of the grilled onions from the quesabirria plate and noticed a thick hair in the cebollas. While at the restaurant I did notice the cook had a beard, but it is still unacceptable getting hair in your food from anywhere. Very disappointing read more
