What a delightful find! We Yelped "pupusa" and Los Planes appeared as higher rated than some others. So off we went! My lunch friend and I both ordered 2 pupusa y platanos. Like a dum dum, I asked for another plate of platanos, when in reality the lunch plate comes with plenty. And they were rich, deeply flavored, complex, and had that lovely burned caramel flavor and appearance that makes bananas so popular in El Salvador and S. America. They have a nice selection of pupusas. Naturally I tried the chicharron because it usually has more flavor, and it gives the chef a chance to really bust out with a bold taste. It was good, and just as good as some of the better pupusas in Santa Ana. The beans, well, like most places they look like the blender got the best of them. I don't know why Latino restaurants like to pulverize their beans. But tasty nonetheless. Typical pintos I think. Nice flavor, maybe a little manteca. If you are new to pupusas, don't get fussy because they take a little while to make. Your patience will be rewarded. If you are in the SGV, don't pass up Los Planes for pupusas y platanos. read more

I had high hopes for this place. When I got here everyone was so nice and welcoming. I ordered my food and it take a bit while to come out but i didn't mind.The horchata was so nasty and tasted like water with cinnamon just like that.When I got my wet burrito it liked god and everything but when i bit into it the carne was not done,and wasn't well cooked.I only finshed less then half of the burrito and mostly just ate the tortilla. Mature maggots were in my Ceviche de Pescado Tostadas after I brought them home, I didn't take them anywhere else, went straight from the restaurant, they were bagged, too. The fact they were mature and big in size tells me they were in there for awhile and not recent births. read more

Been going here for a while, being Salvadorian and growing up with pupusas I can safely say I know my pupusas. This place has better than average pupusas which I would recommend to anyone. I have also tried the yucca frita which is delicious. The service is great but sometime it does take a while to get your food since pupusas often take a while to cook but the wait is worth it. The restaurant is small but cozy and the only thing would be parking often it is a hassle to find since it is on a busy street. read more

Giving this place 1 star because of their rigged prices. The sign clearly said pupusas $2.89 on Saturday and Sunday's but they charged me $3.89 per pupusa. I wish I would've known before I paid and once I confronted them about it they said "oh yeah we raised it by a dollar". -_- A warning would have been nice. read more

I would like to take a second and thank Oscar and Veronica for all their help during this crazy Covid-19 time we are all going through right now.. but he really came through for my mom on her bday today.. my mom loves pupusa's and seeing how we can't really meet up right now or even hug for that matter. I called him and explained to him that it was my mom's bday and wanted to do something special for her.. normally I would've taken her to a restaurant of her choosing but we all have to make do with what's available and keep in mind he doesn't offer delivery but since she was around the corner I gave it a shot and he said it would be his honor to do it! Totally took care of me and just wanted to thank him so much for making my mom and families day..brought them a little joy after being stuck in the house a little over a month now.. Waiting 1 hour for food while the restaurant is only half full is completely UNACCEPTABLE! The restaurant is severely understaffed. I heard that the owner is too cheap to hire more staff which is really disappointing, because the food is actually decent. It also really sucks that the current and perhaps only waitress is overworked and getting attitude from customers for it. My coworkers enjoy dropping by occasionally for their pupusas during lunch. They have daily deals on their pupusas for less than $2 each (choice of beans, cheese, pork, or mix of all three). They make it fresh and it is understandable that there will be a wait, but my coworkers and I only have one hour for lunch and we ended up wasting our entire lunch time for the food to arrive. We ended up munching down on most of the free salsa and tortilla chips since we were so hungry. We had to ask them to pack up our food to-go since we just couldn't be sitting around waiting any longer. What was even more disappointing was the fact that the pupusas they packed into styrofoam containers were still very hot and it ended up melting the styrofoam. They didn't even bother putting a wax paper or alumnium foil to separate the food from the plastic. I still ended up picking my food apart to eat, but it was really unnerving to know I'm eating melted plastic along with my food. With so many lunch options around El Monte, I think I'll pass on the pupusas to avoid the terrible wait time and service. read more

My first time today and this is what I think: Pros: Ensalada de fruta is good They offer free chips and salsa and salsa is good They offer good combo deals that are posted on the wall The salsa and curtido is decent The pastelitos de carne were good but pricey for just 3 Has a small parking in the back side Cons: It took about 10-15 mins for the only waitress to come to the table and take our drink orders (which by this time we ordered our food as well) there were only 2 other parties there Pupusas have good flavor but they are stingy with the ingredients inside of them. For the price, I would've expected better quality The entrance to the kitchen has no screen door, therefore, any flying insects that get inside have easy access to the kitchen It is on a sketchy location and I must admit I had my pepper spray close due to one woman walking in clearly had mental health issues and was free to roam around the inside of the restaurant and a young man with baggy shorts looking around at everyone walked in. Now I'm not judgemental but he looked like a gang member. Lastly, a family came in who perhaps were the owners because they got fast service, were able to walk into the kitchen, and grabbed whatever drinks they wanted. My issue with this was that the kids kept going into the kitchen and as far as I know, only employers wearing hair nets should be back there. This is THE SPOT for authentic Salvadorian food. I like to order their traditional plate of pupusas de revueltas, frijoles, y platanos. It doesn't come with a side of crema, so I highly recommend it to go with your meal. Its a must to top your pupusas with the red salsa and curtido too! Oh and don't forget to try the jugo de enselada. Its very refreshing and light. Also a tip for the newbies: Salvadorian horchata is different than Mexican horchata. Expect a de la Rosa candy taste. We must have waited about 30 minutes for our food to come out. So I gave this place another try. This time I came in and place an order to go. I went to Starbucks (walking) I came back in about 20 mins my food was still not ready & I had to wait another 10 mins. What I do notice both time is one person working as a front cashier & the waitress. Also, if you don't speak Spanish the services is even slower or the cahiser/waitress attend to the one that speaks Spanish. It really didn't offended me, it's just not worth me coming back. I used to love coming here for 5 years.. but I just ordered a few pupusas and unfortunately I'm highly disapointed. before quarantine. the pupusas were oozing with cheese and chicharron from the edges.. I ordered revueltas and I only tasted stale beans. The edges were also heavily encrusted with masa.. I stopped eating after 2 bites. I love this place! The first time I came here was 2 years ago and felt in love with how they make their pupusas. I am a very picky eater so you better believe that when I don't like something I never go back. My son loves the pupusas because they have so much frijoles and queso inside.
