Oh my goodness! I…read moretold my wife, "Finally, delicious food!" I am not too used to Oaxaca's food, some is good, some I don't get, but that's a me thing. But this place, man, I enjoyed the hell out of everything we ordered! We had the guacamole, it nearly got me in tears it was so good. The shrimp cocktail was off the hook, whatever my wife ordered she for sure enjoyed it. I forgot the name of what she ordered. The ambiance is really cozy, and feels welcoming. Lots of green around. Gives a cool vibe. We got to speak with the owner, an amazing guy, really thoughtful about the flavors incorporated into the menu. And very expressive when it comes to the decor. The staff was super attentive and friendly! This visit made our day, not everyone has been as friendly and welcoming as this staff, it's great to know there are places where they get us. I hope we get a chance to come back!!!

It's a pretty casual place where you can order a large selection of dishes which means that it's bound to satisfy different types of palettes. They offer complimentary soup in an espresso cup; unfortunately, some did spill on my friend's leg (accidentally) as they were placing it in front of her. They felt very bad so ended up giving her a complementary dessert which was generous of them.

If La Cevicheria Oaxaca has only 1 fan, it's me. If they have 0 fans, that means I am DEAD…read more On the 7th day, God called upon his most gastronomically inclined angels and created La Cevicheria Oaxaca to graze the taste buds of mankind. Eating here is a spiritual experience that will change your life. This is THE BEST restaurant in Oaxaca in terms of service, taste, presentation, and VALUE. I have gone to other highly rated and acclaimed restaurants in the city, and let me tell you I WISH I saved my money and came here for every meal instead. It is insane how you can get such an amazing, filling, and creative meal at such a great price. Personal highlights were the pasta negra de mariscos and the pastel 3 leches. Please, if you're in Oaxaca you need to come here! If you're not in Oaxaca, you need to visit just to come to this restaurant. You will have the experience of a lifetime. (Do not listen to the hater who gave this place 3 stars, they don't deserve this!)

Included with this very reasonably priced meal were three types of crispy, round tortillas and two types of salsa. ¡Muy délicioso! I also used the tortilla to eat the ceviche which was perfect in presentation and tangy goodness. My husband had the seared plátanos with what I believed was crème fraiche (he reported it being excellent). I also ordered an authentic Clamato, but don't think about the kind in the can. This was like a Bloody Mary on steroids: spicy and bubbly and awesome. I recommend La Cevicheria without even mentioning how beautiful it is inside, but also because it was clear how much love and care the cooks put into each meal. It was cooking in true art form. Muchas gracias!

Another Farm to Table Michelin Star in Oaxaca By Chef Alejandro Ruiz…read more stunning rooftop terrace with views of the Santo Domingo church, and a menu that blends traditional Oaxacan flavors with international touches, often featuring local ingredients like insects and unique moles. Watch out with the Mole is pretty strong!!

The insect tostada had some of the most appealing flavors in an unusual package, it's an absolute must order for any adventurous eater. My pork chops was fatty and fork tender, with a flavor more like veal than pig. Kinda the Platonic ideal of a chop, I'll be chasing this dragon for a while methinks. Cocktails were superb, an amazing meal indeed!

If it is lunch or dinner time in Oaxaca centro as you read this, proceed immediately to this place!…read moreUpscale Oaxacan food in a modern but friendly environment with prices that are moderate. So many highlights.... 1. Their own brand of mescal and outstanding mixed cocktails using fresh fruit and flowers. You can choose to blend mescal with a floral based drink or tamarind juice and puree, all for about US$3 per martini glass full! Not an alcohol drinker? Ask for one of the juices with mineral water con gas. 2. The service. Every person was kind and attentive. We sat at the bar, and the bartender took great care of us. He answered all questions and could converse slightly in English. He taught us about mescal vs tequila and that the restaurant is named for a type of agave used to make mescal. 3. The food, the food, the food. Favs: The best shrimp tacos of my life. Tortilla and shrimp are both cooked with garlic oil, and shrimp melt in your mouth. Be sure to ask for spicy tomato salsa and pico on the side. Also enjoyed a hearty mexican style chicken soup with veggies, garbanzo beans, and lime. And for dessert...baked pear, cinnamon fried tortilla, and fruit sorbet all on one plate! Were there some lowlights? Sure. Sorbet was grainy. The chicken soup was not the best. But certainly no reason to take away a star!
