OK I've been coming here for years but today they deserve 5 stars. First off we always come for the awesome chips n salsa bar......however I always love their al pastor tacos here because they're not dripping with grease like some taquerias....just juicy. Feeling under the weather I came for their chicken soup that I ordered before but it was no longer on the menu. That's ok because it forced me to try something new.... Tried the 7 mare soup today for $12.99...BOMB!!! It came filled with calamari, real crab, mussels, clams, fish, scallops, imitation crab plus tons of veggies like carrots, cyote, peppers n onions. I love how it comes with fixings like shredded cilantro, diced onions, lime and fresh tortillas. They were so kind to split for us and believe me it was plenty!!! So we came here because I was craving Mexican good so bad.....I came here hoping the food would be great considering the amount of people inside. I ordered the "Wet Burrito"de lengua. Let's just say this was a big disappointment, I kid you not the lengua was super flavorless. The red sauce tasted like marinara sauce......Uhm I think it's supposed to be Mexican food not Italian. I want to start by saying, this place is not the cheapest or reasonably priced place around. Its a tad bit expensive (but what isn't in the Bay area?). However, the place is clean and spacious. Also, they have a sauce bar with all you can eat tortilla chips that are perfectly crispy. Now the food. I had a breakfast burrito and i substituted the chorizo with Asada. One of the BEST breakfast burritos i have ever had! It was cheesy, tasty, savory and well served. I paired it with their red sauce and radishes and it hit the spot. Not bad. On the expensive side, $5.70 for a bean burrito and $3.40 for a steak taco. Hard to mess up either of those items, but the taco comes with a in-house salsa that tastes heavily of cinnamon, it's not bad but an acquired taste. The salsa bar those is pretty great.I love the red onion with pepper powder and lime condiment. The green tomatillo salsa also tastes fresh and of tomatillo, so many places water down their green salsa. read more

They get 1 star because the food is somewhat good. This place needs new management. I come here all the time (at least once a week) for over a year now. I always order take out and the same thing, really simple order: regular burrito with just rice and steak, every single time. Somehow they've managed to get my order wrong more times then not! I've have to drive back there every time! And not once have they apologized, (I am not exaggerating that) Now to crown it (what prompted me to write this review, cause I barely ever do this) it's been now 3 times I've called, placed a order they took my name, told me 5 mins (again same simple order) and I get there 20-25 mins later and they haven't even started my order, they literally ask me again what I order and then start making it. It's the third time today, and not a single apology. I like the food here and I'm a creature of habit which is why I've kept coming here despite the disrespect and bad service. But now I've had enough. And for whoever reading this, if you want good service go somewhere else! Especially if you're Black. The burritos are of low quality. I ordered a wet super burrito and as I was eating it, there was a few of rice, beans, meat, etc.... everything else was just the tortilla itself. It was all tortilla with a bunch of sauce on top of it. For the price, order somewhere else. Nothing like S.F burritos. read more

We ordered a chicken super burrito tonight and two tacos (carnitas and carne asada). Ay yi yi. This place used to be pretty good. Consistent, too. And now...... How do you f*ck up a burrito? I didn't think it was possible until tonight. With the new expansion, they've also raised their prices. Hooray that they have enough business to expand, and I truly wish them well. However, the quality of the food should at least be as good as it was before, right? Is that too much to ask? Apparently so. The details: the chicken was old and dried up and nearly non-existent. No tomatoes and you might need a microscope to see any guacamole. All this for $9!?!?!? I can't even. The meat was plentiful in the tacos and that's about the only positive thing that I can say about the food. The tacos were already cooled off (by the time the order was packed I think) and the salsa that's usually in them was painfully lacking this time. It's a good thing that this was a to-go order because if I would have seen what they were trying to pass off as food, I'd have given it back and demanded a refund. But the sorpresa was when we opened the bag!!! YUCK. NEVER AGAIN. I'd just as soon as take a road trip to Los Angeles for some decent Mexican food (or even a local Chipotle, for that matter and I rarely go to Chipotle, so that tells you something). I advise you to read recent reviews as well. If they keep up like this, I doubt that they'll be able to maintain their current 3.5 star rating. Look the food isn't bad by any stretch of the word. It definitely has good taste and seasoning. They have a diverse salsa bar which is great and your typical tropical waters. Here is the thing. Each taco is $3.10. Yeah, I feel ripped off truthfully. The tacos aren't big, really, they are just normal. There is a restaurant three blocks away with better quality meat and ingredients the taco is much bigger, probably twice as big with an amazing tasting tortilla and they only charge 10 cents more. Los Pericos is a nice little spot sort of hidden, but once you're inside, they seem to be proficient from placing your order to receiving it at your table. We came here on Sunday at is was pretty busy. Food was pretty tasty...I wouldn't say it is the best but it is satisfying. I tend to be extremely critical as it pertains to comida Mexicana. I grew up in San Francisco and my Godparents are from Guadalajara. Sobi grew up with the very best authentic home cooked Mexican food. I thought the food was a little pricy but overall was satisfying. The chips and salsa bar was very clean and had a very good variety of salsa ranging from mild to hot, pico de gallo. Also there were roasted peppers, lightly grilled onions etc. Something I paid attention to was how quickly after a patron finished dining, an employee was cleaning the table getting in a hurry, getting it ready for the next set of patrons to be seated. Does it make the "Must Return" list? Not quite, but it will be on my radar whenever I'm in the area again! read more

The first time I had a carne asada burrito, it didn't taste good, the meat was really chewy and I felt ill afterwards. My second experience was today, my brother went there to get us some lunch, brought back a big chiken burrito and again, the chicken was fatty and chewy and now, I feel sick. Terrible! A co-worker picked up takeout for us, so I ordered without a menu. But I thought, what taqueria DOESN'T carne asada quesadillas? The meat was awful - NOT steak, and not seasoned. It was kind of what I would expect from a frozen philly cheese steak, yuck. Also, it wasn't really a quesadilla. It was FAT, and had lettuce (wilted of course) and sour cream in it. This place is getting stars for that spicy salsa they put on their tacos and their forgiving portions! Is it worth the price? For their shrimp tacos, definitely. Would I go back again? Probably not. Nothing over the top about this place besides that yummy salsa but I've had better. Also keep in mind that there is a price difference between the shrimp and anything else. Decent enough burrito place - better than the chain restaurants which surround it, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get here. Prices are reasonable for the portions. So glad I no longer have to drive all the way to Los Gallos in Newark (although I probably still will) to get a good taco. Yesterday I flew into SF via red eye flight from Honolulu, showered at home in Hayward, and went straight to work in San Jose. It was the kind of day that left me without any kind of time for an actual meal. By the time I put the kid to bed and sat down to finish some more work, I realized just how hungry I was. I managed to talk my best friend out of getting Popeye's and into getting tacos with me. I also managed to distract him to the point where I ate five tacos right in front of him without any reminder of the fact that I had to run 6 miles the following day (which I still will, GOSH). I don't know why I never learn my lesson, chorizo tacos are not the business - I would stick to my usual, lengua and carnitas. Carne asada is a little dry for my taste. Had it not been for my recent visit, I would have rated it as A-Ok. I've been to this place many times for lunch, cause I like the fact they have a burrito with sauce. And rarely do I have a problem. Now granted, I technically don't get what they have listed on the menu. I prefer not to have meat in my burrito, but I like to have the rice. So usually I go in and ask for the bean & cheese burrito with rice and make it wet (which is to put sauce on it). In the past they only made one mistake, no rice. I figure it's bound to happen though I could never tell when, cause they don't list on the ticket where it was special order or that it was suppose to be added. Just recently I asked for the same thing, but I guess the lady didn't hear that I wanted it with sause. So when the guy came out to give me my meal I told him I had ordered it with sause. He said the ticket didn't say so and the lady said she didn't hear me. I figure, fine, just add the sause. Then guy tells me that I have to pay another dollar if I want sauce. Here's the problem, I don't carry cash with me. I find it sometimes a bother to have to pull it out when you can pay with card. And I told him that I had no cash. I can't really describe the look he gave me when I told him that, but I can at least say I wasn't pleased with it. So yeah, the guy gave me the sause I asked for. However, before giving my meal, decided he needed to inform me that I need to check to make sure my order is right. Though how, is beyond me. Do I make the wait staff hate me, cause I should repeat myself 2 or 3 times, slowly, just to make sure? I go here pretty often since I work nearby. I used to always get the Carne Asada Super Burrito and was always pleased with it. It was definitely a super burrito when it came to size and taste. Lately, I've been ordering the Carne Asada Quesadilla and I'm always impressed. There's a salsa bar with several choices of salsa, all of which make your order even more enjoyable. My order is always coming out within 5 minutes and comes with a small bag of chips. There's even a bowl of chips to snack on while you wait. The restaurant is kept pretty clean as busboys are regularly making their rounds. I've been here many times in the past and will continue my visits in the future. read more

I initially gave this place 4 stars because I was overly excited about their salsa bar. But I really think this is only a 3 star place. I like their tacos, and basic other stuff like burritos... however, this place can do better. The menu is missing some common Mexican food items and the customer service is average. When I call to place an order over the phone, they usually get my order wrong. This time I asked for shredded chicken in my tacos not cubed (they gave me cubed). I don't like the cubed chicken. If you place to go orders, make sure you check your orders before leaving. Also, they will charge you an arm and a leg for salsa and chips to go when you can just go to the salsa bar and spoon your own salsa in those small plastic containers and the chips are right by the register up for grabs! This spot has a rock-solid position as my go-to for Mexican in San Leandro and I'm happy to tell you why. It's actually pretty big inside so you can go and have a reasonable expectation that you can sit and eat instead of doing the take out mission - but that's not the point. The point is that when you order a Super Burrito from Los Pericos and you try to carry it out, you may need to stop and rest. Lunch on a work day with my brother along for the adventure and I'm always game for a little Pastor burrito to get me through the day. Pastor? Try passed-out! We must've visited this place once a week this past month alone. Love the fact that they are open till late...and they have expanded! Been coming here for years and cannot believe that I haven't written a review for our 'go to' place for Mexican food. We are never disappointed and we've tried several of their menu items.
