The decor was great, the music too loud, intrusive and obnoxious - Spanish music would be nice. The service good. Now the food. The chips and salsa, not so good. The chips over cooked and crumbly; we got hot salsa which was actually extra hot triple xxx habanero smoked ( not very salsaesque-too thick, clumpy) the server did not mention or warn us, so beware! The tacos great, though served on only one shell and falling apart in my hands as I ate them, two tortillas would be better. The stuffed poblano was excellent. The chile rellenos -stuffed jalapenos peppers - were undercooked basically raw, they needed more cooking. Tamales were nice but needed to be served warmer. The tres leche cake - usually a layered cake - was actually not a cake but 3 slices of sponge cake with too sweet whipped cream and frozen strawberries. Checked this place out while visiting a friend in town. She highly recommended it so I was excited to try it out. We waited 45 minutes for a table, but it was well worth the wait (and we got to walk around down by the river while we waited). The restaurant overall resembles a much better version of La Carnita in Toronto. Tacos are $5 each and there are quite a few options. I tried the pork belly and immediately regretted not ordering more. They were messy and delicious but you can request to have them made into a burrito bowl which is a good idea for next time. Overall the restaurant is beautiful - well lit and has beautiful artwork painted on all of the walls. We sat indoors but from what I could see the patio was spacious and would be the perfect place to have a chill patio night with friends. The location is also great - it's still busy but you're off of Richmond which can be nice later in the evening when everyone starts heading out to the bars. Definitely looking forward to going back next time I'm in town! read more

The only redeeming quality of this restaurant is the artwork on the walls by Stu Andrenelli, first we ordered a pitcher of margaritas which was $44 and was so full of ice it ended up only being 2 1/2 small glasses each and was mediocre, we then ordered 2 appetizers, the scallop ceviche and the queso fundido, the ceviche was good but the queso fundido tasted like that fake cheese dip and we got the cauliflower and they just threw giant pieces of cauliflower in the dip, also the prices were way too high, I mean $40 nachos? Seriously who would pay that...so our bill ended up being around 75 for 2 apps and a pitcher of margs...also they played rap music the entire time. On a plus side the service was good...I would avoid and personally will never be back. read more

I'd like to give Los Lobos a 5 because their tacos are awesome. I've tried most of their tacos and the flavor has always been great...pork belly are best. However, where they fall down is with their Totopos. The queso fundido isn't queso fundido, it's more like the nacho sauce you get at movie theaters mixed with some jalapeños...that's not queso fundido. The nacho chips almost get it right but they have a sweet taste to them that is off putting. The hot salsa is actually hot but the taste isn't right...maybe a bit of mango in the mix just doesn't do it for me. Finally, they need to stop serving the michaladas altogether...they got them completely wrong...not enough Worcestershire, too much lemon, the rim salt tastes sweet, and there is a ton of crap floating in the glass (cilantro maybe). Again, go for the tacos but you might want to skip the starters. read more

I wanted to go really bad to this place and I took my mom and my whole family the day before mother's day and we had to wait for almost 2 hours before getting seated, it was ridiculous. We got there at 7 pm and we were seated by almost 9 pm and we had 3 kids with us who were desperate and hungry as well as the entire family. The food is good but I think this place needs to do something to deserve a 5 star rating and to have customers happy who want to go back. We saw a lot of people trying to get a table, but there were no tables available and the patio was not open. Do something to get better because you're going to lose customers this way!!! It is a nice place with an unique decoration and enjoyable ambient. The food is nice, not truly Mexican from my perspective, I hate the overuse of cummin in Mexican dishes when over there nobody use it, that was the case of the esquites. I ordered the queso fundido which is nice, and a couple of tacos (tongue and cheek) which I was impressed that they were on the menu; the tongue taco was ok but a bit sweet for my taste, I missed the spicy/hot sour flavors that a good green salsa can give with those tacos; and the cheek taco was ok. I would recommend to come, have a good time, try the beers (Modelo negra) with a good mezcal (Marques) and maybe have some entrance and have a good time, not recommended for a tasty dinner. read more

Average food experience. Overall we had to wait about an hour which wasn't that big of a deal. We got the black bean, fish, beef cheek, bison, carnitas (pulled pork), and the chicken taco. Black bean - wasn't special in any way, average taste Fish - fish was good, not too fishy and sauce on top contributed well Beef cheek - identical to an average beef taco, tasteful but didn't stand out Bison - unique and overall very good, this was probably my favourite, the meat was tender and had a distinct good taste Carnitas - average, nothing too special, didn't disappoint but did not impress at all Chicken - very tasteless and bland, nothing about the taco stood out Overall, it was a good restaurant but a bit overpriced at 5$ a taco. I will say they pack the tacos which is greatly appreciated. My biggest criticism was the general food as being unimpressive, and the music being so loud that I couldn't have a conversation at my table despite there only being the two of us. read more

The food here is always really good and the spot itself is awesome. BUT (I know...) the service is honestly so bad it just isn't worth it The first time we came, the server was extremely slow getting to us (saying he'll be right over and then spent a full 20 minutes, splitting bills, closing bills, and flirting with the girls at the table behind us). When he eventually came around, it took another 20 mins for us to get our drinks...it was as if he never even told the bartender from what we could see from where we were sitting. Near the end he wasn't even the one waiting on us anymore and we eventually were just refilling our own water from the pitcher at the service station beside us. The 2nd time, the service was equally as bad. There were tons of seats open for a group of 3 and instead, we were told to wait at the bar. To my knowledge, they don't accept reservations, so this was weird to me. It took half an hour to get sat, another half hour to have our orders taken, and we were never checked on. I really do like the food there and the atmosphere and artwork is really cool but with the knowledge that the service is going to be inevitably horrible, I don't think I'll be able to bring myself to try a 3rd time. read more

Atmosphere is incredible. Interior deco is fun, while being brighter than most other 'street-taco' restaurants. Sat on the patio and really enjoyed the music and overall vibe. Tacos were overall quite good. Pork belly is a 10/10 and a must try. Only area for improvement comes from the tortillas. Far too weak to hold the toppings, meaning that your third taco will likely fall apart before it comes near your mouth. Something which definitely needs to be improved (occurred twice). read more

They literally require 10 people to eat since they are so massive - great value and best nachos I've ever had. I was really excited when I found out a taco/Mexican spot was opening here, couldnt wait to try it but waited til the hype died down to avoid big waits and finally went last week. The decor is really awesome, the sugar skulls and the table tops are really cool, but the food is overpriced for what you get. For 5 dollars a taco and then paying for chips as well I wouldve expected better quality. The chips were really greasy and falling apart when you bit them. Im vegetarian and while I dont expect a discount for being one, I was surprised that all the meat options for tacos were the same price considering how basic the vegetarian options were. I ordered one of every vegetarian taco to see what would be the tastiest. 5 dollars for black beans and two slices of jalapeno on a tiny tortilla though? Definitely overpriced, and not worth it to go here as a vegetarian. My meat eating other half did say the pork belly taco was delicious and totally worth it. Next time if I visit again I ll probably just stick to drinks. read more

Had to stand by the bar to order drinks which I was fine with but I felt like I was getting in the way of servers coming to pick up drink orders. Amazing!! When I called about a reservations I was told they don't do reservation but instead they gave me great tips on ensuring that we got in on a Friday night. We were impressed because we were very well informed and it worked. The atmosphere was very cool, the art work was amazing and the staff were friendly. The cocktails and margaritas were amazing and we just about tried everything on the menu and everything was amazing. The best part was it was our 15th wedding anniversary and the playlist was not planned for us but was the history of our relationship beginning with Jurassic 5! I have visited this restaurant many times for business and personal dinners Unfortunately, I will never be back because of a hostess that was ignorant and very un accommodating. We were told that there was a 45 min wait which is understandable if there is enough business to substantiate the wait.However, there were several tables open outside, but we were told a table for ten was coming and they had 10 minutes to arrive. 15 minutes later no people for 10. We asked if we could have the inside table only to be told that it was being held for the group of 10. We than asked about the tables open on the patio to be told that we would be texted when the table comes available " in a huff". The hostess was so inefficient and stubborn that she let 5 people(us) and 4 others leave. Crazy!!! Unfortunate, because it's a good spot but with this person as a hostess business will continue to be blown away. In a competitive market this place isn't that good where it can't be forgotten. read more

Food was good but it was missing the love that the Wolfe brothers served at Rock au Taco. No more little bottles of hot sauce expertly explaining the differences between the 3 types, the waitress kind of yelled that they had 1 kind and it costs $0.50. No wedges of limes with the tacos. $12 blended margaritas were under whelming... maybe there wasn't enough staff on hand but we sat without drinks for awhile.
