    Chicken tacos

We came to mexicactus at dinnertime on a Tuesday and it was extremely busy. I guess I'm not the only one that celebrates taco Tuesday! Overall, the food was okay for the price. The tacos were large and tasted good, but they were nothing special. The salad was drenched in an excessive amount of dressing. The restaurant is in an industrial area and kind of a dive inside. While we were having dinner, something in the kitchen started smoking and filled up the restaurant with smoke.

I recently discovered mexicactus, I'm from Toronto, and hands down this is the best Mexican I've had! I came for the first time on Friday, and of course came back on Saturday night with different people! I should mention you're given complimentary chips and salsa, the salsa is so delicious and the chips have an amazing spice on them! I got the chimichanga and the antojitos on Friday for lunch. The antojitos are a giant portion and so so delicious. Amazingly spiced chips, a dip loaded with homemade refried beans and cheese! Still unsure how I ate a chimichanga afterwards but I guess when the foods this good you find a way. Then I got the vegetarian chimichanga, filled with delicious vegetables and cheese-don't forget to get their homemade hot sauces as well! On Saturday I was very creative, and got another chinichanga. But this time with the jalapeño poppers and guacamole to start, soooo amazing! I swear this place can not disappoint. I also decided to get the deep fried ice cream, because, well, why not right? Not so often do I find it so I thought I'd better give it a shot! Let me tell you, GET IT. Whatever you do- GET THE DEEP FRIED ICE CREAM!!!

I came here for a night out with the ladies from work. I'm glad we chose this spot since I've heard great things and I've been wanting to go for a while. Funny enough, I ran into another Yelper while I was there, also her first time as well! We were given chips and salsa which were really good. It tasted homemade! I'm sure it was. My colleagues ordered a small pitcher of sangria which was enough for the 3 of them. I ordered a Chicken Quesadilla a la Grande. It came with a fresh starter salad. I enjoyed the dressing. I loved the tortilla the quesadilla was made in, it tasted great and I loved the crispy end pieces from being cooked. The only thing I didn't like was the sprinkle of seasoned salt along the middle. It made the dish too salty for my taste. Service was slower and minimal but I think it was because we were so intent on visiting with each other. We were talking a lot, so she most likely held back to not interrupt. Everyone enjoyed their dishes and they all looked great. The fajitas were priced under $15 for a small which is decently priced. I'm going to try them the next time I go!

Ch-ch-ch-chimi! I had been craving a chimichanga for about a week and knew of only two places in the city that could satisfy that and as luck would have it, the stars aligned and I managed to convince the roommates to do a take out order. After about 30 minutes, three chicken chimis were safely tucked away to travel home. They smelt amazing! Inside the containers awaited a massive chimi that was golden brown and had sides of rice and beans with some salsa and sour cream on top. I would've liked a bit more sour cream, but that's just me. Incredible flavour. Lots of chicken and peppers. Cheese was just enough but I would probably be happy with a bit more. I am a dairy fan, what can I say? Every bite was perfectly mixed, which is impressive. The rice was really tasty! Beans as well. I think I was the only one who liked the side salad dressing and ended up eating two of the three salads. While waiting, I noticed a fellow Yelper and said hello! I also noticed it was quite busy and there was one server who was constantly going back and forth into the kitchen. The owner/manager lady seemed to be just hovering about, not being incredibly helpful. The décor is rustic sombrero cheesiness. I would definitely like to go back and eat at the restaurant (sangria!!!) because I was happily and extremely pleased with the take out meal.

I'd heard a lot about Mexicactus in the past and was interested in trying a New Mexican place. The restaurant itself is small but cute. Parking was limited but it was worth it. The patio was quite intriguing but it was far too hot to sit outside, but I'll definitely be looking at sitting outside next time I visit. The restaurant itself is small but cute. Food was fantastic. We started with antojitos which were unbelievable. The portion was large and so tasty. My fiancé had the seafood enchiladas and he is still raving about them. The portion was large and he loved it. I had chicken tacos and they were delicious. For dessert we shared the apple chimi which was SO good. The strawberry ice cream accompanying it was different but delicious. I will definitely be back. I'm glad I took the chance on a place in my neighbourhood.

    Seafood enchilada

I had their seafood enchilada, it was excellent! Nice atmosphere, and good service too! I recommend.

Since our recent move to the east end we've been driving by this place daily for work, so we decided to check it out this past weekend. Mexican food is one of my favorites. Whenever I'm in Arizona or Colorado (which is at least once a year since I have family in those areas) I always try to scope out the best Mexican food in the area. We started with the antojitos and had a chicken chimichanga and beef enchiladas for our entrees. Compared to the Mexican restaurants in the states, Mexicactus didn't quite hit the mark on the flavours I was yearning for. I've yet to really find a good Mexican restaurant in Canada, but to be fair there aren't nearly as many. Aside from the flavour, I can tell that the owners of this restaurant do take pride in what they do. The interior of the restaurant is really clean and has a fun atmosphere, and the dishes are prepared with care. Service was quick and efficient and the waitress was pleasant.

Latino Market - Carimañolas and empanadas

There's no comprehensive menu posted; I recommend you check out the online menu before you go (http://www.latinomarketlondon.com/menu.html). When I asked if they had a menu, they asked me what sort of food I wanted (I knew what to order, cause I'd scoped it out ahead of time.) People who came in after (and didn't know what they wanted) were given a printed menu, though, so you should be able to ask for one. You can get 3 tacos for $5, or a burrito for $6. You can also find an array of Columbian specialties. I tried the bandeja paisa ($12), which is a traditional platter including rice and beans, a sausage, fried pork belly, some shredded beef, a slice of avocado, a fried egg, a cooked plantain, and a small arepa (which is like a thick corn tortilla). All of the food was fantastic, and the portion was massive. The sausage in particular was delicious, and the beans were nicely seasoned. I also ordered a couple of empanadas and carimañolas (I was splitting all of this food with someone, I swear!) The empanadas (fried turnovers filled with seasoned beef) were out of this world -- although they were VERY salty (I was guzzling water for the rest of the day.) The carimañolas were yucca/cassava dumplings filled with cheese, and they were absolutely scrumptious; I could eat those things all day. I recommend microwaving them for a few seconds to get the cheese melty. They also serve other Columbian specialties, like arepas stuffed with all sorts of delicious things. I'll be back to try them, for sure! There are a few tables for dining in, but most people seem to get their food to go. I speak enough Spanish to order food, but you shouldn't have a problem ordering if you don't speak any Spanish. For just the food counter, I'd give a solid 5 stars. Latino Market also sells specialty groceries for a variety of Latin American cuisines. There's no fresh produce, but you can find cheeses, lots of canned and jarred stuff, dried chilis, masa, lots of packaged cookies and other sweets, and more. You can also get a big pack of corn tortillas for $2.10! (The tortillas are in a side fridge and the price isn't marked.) Unfortunately, the prices on most of the other groceries are higher than what you'd pay in a bigger grocery store (although I might be spoiled, having moved from L.A. where it's easy to find these sorts of groceries for cheap.) Due to the prices, I'd only come here for groceries if you were searching for an ingredient you couldn't easily get elsewhere. But I'll definitely recommend Latino Market for the amazing Columbian food!

I just can't. I ordered a pupusa, al pastor taco and carne asada taco. The first two came out fine but the last item came out as a plate since he misheard me. I tell the guy and he says he won't charge me. I finish my delicious meal and try to pay and that's when I get confronted by our waiter (and owner of the restaurant) that if I wanted a carne asada taco, I shouldn't have eaten the plate. I try to explain that I did point it out but he refuses the listen, and continues to berate me for a good five minutes on how wrong I was. Seriously... I was filled with red rage at this point. My husband steps in and backs up my story, and his wife says she will just charge the plate as a taco. That should have been the end of it, but he tells me how wrong I am even after I pay. So even after I have already paid, he literally tells me I'm wrong and the worst for another five minutes... I wanted to blow up but I didn't because you know, it's a restaurant. But he is literally the least professional person I have ever met in the restaurant industry. I just finished eating thirty minutes ago and I am still shaking in anger. It doesn't matter if the food is delicious if you are treated like a piece of garbage.
