I was disappointed! had really high hopes for this place but everything was kind of meh. the empanada was really good but the salad was confusing, too large, overdressed and just not very good. the chips and guac were fine, chips slightly too thick. the tacos honestly needed more flavor. I also had ordered two meat based tacos and I don't think there was enough meat in them. the tortilla was also quite thick. the cocktail was fun though. service was unremarkable. my biggest confusion was that the ambiance did not match the advertised photos on Google. where is that cute little backyard patio!? bring me there !! overall maybe a cute place if you just wanted drinks and to share light food with friends, but I wouldn't really come here for dinner again I don't think. read more

We went to Che Restobar for the first time on Thursday. We were greeted by the server and seated on the patio right away. We were given menus and our drinks order was taken about 5 minutes later. Our drinks arrived after about another 5-8 minutes but we quite enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the opportunity for people watching. We ordered a couple of drinks (pisco sour and Modelo Negro). Both drinks were delicious (hoping to recreated the pisco sour at home) and we ordered our food. I think it took about 10 minutes for our food to arrived and we loved all of it. We had the yellowfin tuna ceviche, empanada with chicken and patatas bravas. The ceviche was yummy and fresh-tasting. The patatas bravas were slightly spicy and had lots of crumbled chorizo and the empanada was also a little spicy and oh-so tasty with a fabulous salad that we loved (the dressing was amazing). I think this place fulfills an excellent niche in London, which is tasty Latin American food at a good price. We got the guac and chips and patatas bravas to start, chorizo burger (comes with yucca fries) and roasted pork belly as mains, and the alfajores (dulce de leche sandwich cookies) for dessert. The food was very tasty - great flavors and texture (e.g. the pork belly was both crispy and tender). We also got 2 cocktails, which were average. The service was excellent - our server was friendly and attentive - despite there being only one server that day (we went on a Tuesday). My fiancé arranged a surprise birthday dinner here for me with my friends and it was such a great experience! The server was very nice and attentive to our rather large group and was very helpful when I asked for suggestions since it was my first time being there. The food was was amazing! I got the octopus tacos and baked mussels and it filled me up quite nicely. The yuca poutine is also super tasty but it's not quite poutine. It's their take on it. I recommend giving it a try! We've been told this isn't necessarily always on the menu but it's such a fan favourite that they are unlikely to have a time when its *not* available. It's really too bad that they are in London and not in Toronto or another lively night city because the food is EXCELLENT and the music is awesome but there is no one here on a Tuesday night.... I guess you can't expect much more from London on a Tuesday. Anyway, it's not cheap. We came as a group of 3, had one app and three entrees and paid $114 bucks with tip. To some that might be cheap? Not me! But the food was sooooooo good!!!! First of all, the app was crispy fried calamari and it's like no calamari I ever had before. It was covered in some kind of dark, ground down barley/quinoa/wheat blend? It was DELICIOUS!!!! With an spicy Peruvian pepper sauce and an avocado/cilantro dip. A+. We all kind of shared the seared ahi tuna, my 12oz rib eye medium rare and the paella. I would definitely recommend the paella. Paella - full of mussels, chorizo, calamari, shrimp, prawns. In this amazing wine tasting sauce. Just so good. A little strange to me that it didn't come in the usual flat dish? But didn't take anything away from it. Tuna - came with fries plantain slices, inside of which was quinoa, strings of beets and salad and a mixed greens salad. The ahi tuna was superb!!! Steak - ok so the yuka chips/slices were amazing. The pico de gallo was the best I have ever had. Seriously. The steak was covered in some kind of sauce... It was green and herby and just amazing. The steak was...ok. I mean the meat was fresh and tasted good but I don't think this is the right kind of cook for me? I like my rib eye done 3-4 minutes on each side in rosemary oil so maybe I am a little picky? It was chewy vs. Buttery soft. But i think you just have to find the right "done" for you. I will come back. The menu selection is not overwhelming and the food is professionally and exceptionally done. The restaurant apparently changed to a tapas menu so the friends who brought us didnt know if it was going to be as good. The menu only had about 15 items, so because there were 6 of us, we ordered just about everything. Warning, the menu did say that items are seasonal and subject to change. In fact the online menu is very different then the menu we had. Most notable dishes that are MUST tries: Yucca fries. Empanadas Hanger (?} Steak Calamari Tostadas Ceviche salad Chicken croquettes Pretty good: Pork belly Guacamole Braised ribs Ok, but not everyone's favorite: Octopus tacos Coffeebean scallops (cooked perfectly. But the coffee taste was odd) The dishes had incredible flare, beautiful presentation, and tasty sauces. It was the most bland and awful paella I have ever had. I can imagine this is part of the reason this place closed. It tastes like dirty fish was rubbed all over the rice. My wife & I met up with her sister & husband a couple of days ago when we stopped in midweek around 6pm for drinks and dinner. We were seated immediately and served well. It was easy to catch the waitstaff's eye if we wanted anything and they were around without pestering us, so we were able to have a great time. Seating was comfortable and tables were spaced out so walking through the place was comfortable. We were definitely there in a "off" period, so it was not crowded and noise was not an issue. The waitstaff was knowledgeable about their menu and were readily willing to offer suggestions when asked. Food was prepared excellently and came in timely manner. The waitstaff does a wonderful job telling patrons how the restaurant works (since it's small plates/appetizers/dishes to share). portions were adequate for all four of us to have a taste. We had a fair number of dishes and we enjoyed all of them. Well prepared and presented, we found the ingredients to be well chosen and the combinations were fun to try. We had the calamari, which was lightly and artfully seasoned, and tasted exquisitely and left us wanting more. Ditto for the hanger steak, and the tacos, and... again, not a dish was served that we would order another of. This is a gem that we will return to again. I have a gripe that is directed at all small plate restaurants, since this seems to be a common theme: there are commonly 3 "servings" on a plate. For a table of 4 this is not a good thing. For 2 people, this can be awkward (I'm thinking "first date"). Is it so hard to plate, and price, by the number of people at the table or in even numbers? Nickle and diming your customers is not a good practice. Parking was easy (for us) on the street, but I suppose we got "lucky" finding an open street spot. There are a number of lots, but 'Restobar is in downtown London, so if you're driving you might need to go to a lot. read more

I ate here all three days I was visiting just for the "ceviche mixto" - Che Restobar offers 4 variations of ceviche. I took friends who each ordered something different. The chimichurri steak was my other favorite. I heard the Paella was delicious. Looking at the business card the owner has deemed it "modern latinamerican cuisine" Good wine list but the cocktails look fun as well since they also have that latin american twist. Considering the atmosphere, portions, food presentation and taste the prices are very reasonable. $20-$26 CAD, $8 for a glass of wine, $32 bottle, ceviche appetizers were $10, cocktails $8 The owner, Marvin, and the rest of the staff are very friendly. It is simply and beautifully decorated - would be great for art shows and small bands / dj's. There is a small bar and a nice seating area. This is exactly the kind of bar I would frequent back home in Los Angeles. To all visiting London, ON: please check it out and support great small business like these. You won't regret it. I went here recently with a large party of friends. The atmosphere was cozier than the last time I was there due to the dimmed lighting. Service overall was excellent; our waiter was very attentive. I ordered the tuna ceviche to start. I had ordered this the last time I was there and liked the dish. Unfortunately this time it was a little disappointing. Firstly, as an appetizer course it's huge! The first time I was there it was served in a small glass and the tuna was cut quite small. They changed the dish to include quite large chunks of tuna and it is served in a massive soup bowl that is full. It was still flavourful and nicely seasoned, but I was worried that I would ruin my appetite for dinner if I ate it all. Others at my table ordered the Yucca poutine which was declared interesting. The calamari was also deemed tasty but the chicken skewers received the best review. Most people at the table ordered the paella as the main. The portion is huge and overall most were pleased with the dish. There were a few mussels on everyone's plate that hadn't opened...c'est la vie. One of our party ordered the seafood soup as the main and it was declared delicious. I ordered the Mole chicken. The mole sauce was great but I wasn't that impressed with the zucchini noodles that came with it. They were a bit cold when I got them. For dessert our table ordered the donuts to share. So good. A friend and I had heard good things about tho pace, so we decided to check it out. We were greeted by a very friendly gentleman and asked where we would like to sit. So far so good. The lighting was a bit dim (I noticed another reviewer had said it was too bright, so they must have installed dimmer switches) but the atmosphere was cosy. Our server came and checked on us and was happy to answer any questions. We settled on a glass of wine and some apps - the yucca poutine and the beef skewers. The skewers were tasty, but the poutine was not a hit. The tapenade overpowered the gravy - will have to try something else next time. Fantastic South American food and drink. My new go-to place for a nice meal here in London town. Starters are mostly ceviche and 'tiraditos', which is a bit like sashimi. Mains include steak, chicken, some fish options, and paella. I had the chupe soup, a fish stew that is frankly one of the best things I've ever eaten. Cocktails include Southern American specialties like mohitos and caipirinhas, plus a nice assortment of wines by the bottle and glass. Service is courteous, knowledgeable and professional. I went for the Londonlicious menu a few weeks back and was not impressed. My martini was incredibly diluted and the food portions were very small. It tasted fine, but when I'm paying $35 a person I'm expecting a tad better than "fine". The wait staff was not very attentive and it was difficult to get their attention for anything but water. My boyfriend and I waited 50 minutes for our appetizers to come. The couple behind us (who also sat down after we had arrived) was already on their entrées by the time we had anything on our table. I'm fairly certain that our waitress forgot to put our order in, but what irks me the most is that when I tried getting the attention of the servers, some would literally walk right across me or smile and walk by. They didn't even bother to stop and listen. In addition, there was no toilet paper in the washrooms and I had to do the awkward hop between stalls in search of some. I am severely disappointed in this restaraunt. Not only was every order wrong, the service was horrible, we were a party of 10+ on a Friday night in an entirely empty restaurant and everything was still garbage. I waited 15 mins for a beer while everyone else had time to finish their wine. The seafood dish I ordered had chicken in it (chicken was not in the menu listing) and not at all what I wanted. The kalmari app assaulted my nose before I even leaned forward to taste it. A friends medium well hanger steak came out bloody as hell. They served both my entree and appetizer AT THE SAME TIME, well ahead of the rest of table, and as I and my significant other left; the last person at the table had received their dinner only moments earlier after we had been there 90 mins+. On top of it all, their horrible service put me past our 2 hour parking limit and I received a $50 ticket. Did I mention we were the ONLY people there too? Lipstick was apparently on a "clean" glass of water that was served to my girlfriend. They had only one heavily burdened waitress try and accomodate the table, but as food kept coming out wrong or poorly cooked, she was easily overwhelmed. If I could give this place zero stars if I would. I had heard good things about this place, but it's clearly past it's prime. Do not eat here, you will be disappointed. I would of preferred fast food over this slop. Update TWO WEEKS LATER: After posting my review and seeing the restaurants response, I messaged them asking who to call. I was given the owners name "Marvin" with a phone number. I called, there was no answer - I left a message. No one called me back. I waited a few days and nothing. I messaged on facebook to follow up, no response. Two weeks later now, Che ResoBar has left me hungry, angry, with a parking ticket, and now has wasted even more of my time. So disappointed. Went here on a Thursday night (January 18). Was quiet in there due to the wine show, which was fine for me. Tried it because of the Londonlicious that was going on and had been wanting to go here. GREAT FOOD. Had the calamari, delicious, unbreaded (which i loved). Tried the guacamole with chips, also very delicious and tried my friend's octopus tacos, will definitely be getting some for myself next time! (All these are just the apps!) Then had the enchiliadas with yucca fries. AMAZING. The fries were so crispy and the dipping sauce was delicious. The enchilidas were also very good. My friend got the pork loin which looked awesome and she said was good. Then had the Argentinian cookies, SO GOOD. Very similar to macaroons. My friend tried the chocolate cheesecake which came in a jar and was also very good. Overall, excellent food, updated, great drinks and great service! It's been a while so we thought we would "licious" it up during this heatwave and Che did not disappoint. Whilst some have a fairly predictable and generally safe menu for this even Che once again stepped up with some inventive dishes that were both plentiful in size and satisfying in flavour profile and presentation. Service was mostly good and the space always has the right ambience for me. We were stuffed by the time dessert came but we pushed the limits and had a very nice (and very filling night out). The always artful and playful plates that use some traditional Peruvian ingredients and staples marry well with the fusion elements great use of what is available here. For inventive, fresh and engaging plates of food no matter what the season we have always done well with Che, take a chance and maybe this is your next favourite spot to dine out (coffee rub on the steak was great and the fish dish was fresh and bursting with flavour). read more

The wine list is good and the menu is interesting, but of the three times I've been, I generally feel like each visit has been less satisfying than the last. I usually go when I have a craving for ceviche, but it was frankly quite forgettable on my last visit. I'm hoping my next visit will restore my faith in Che. read more
