I was there today for the first and last time. The food is all right; the service is very slow. I was not impressed. We have been waiting for 35 minutes for the waitress to stop by to take the order. She was coming and going and ignoring us. Finally, the manager took notice and took our order. Today was a cooler day, only 70F. They had all the floor-to-ceiling windows open, about 6 of them; it was very drafty, plus the air conditioner was on. Lots of guests had sweaters and jackets on; you would think management would get the message about being cold in there. I voiced my opinion; I was offered a blanket. He said all the 'right' things: -We haven't had any other complaints -I've asked the kitchen to check all the safety and storage protocols -You should check what else your daughter ate that day I'm not in the habit of making false accusations or complaining for the sake of it. But having worked in the food business for more than 3 decades I do know that all it takes is for one bad piece of sea food to cause poisoning. But like I said, Dino responded promptly and said all the 'right' things in response. He very kindly also offered to send something across to my daughter as a gesture to attempt to have her have a good memory of her birthday lunch... but I had to decline. In all honestly, the food here deserves a solid 3/5. Taste and quality-wise, it's decent Italian food and I assume there mustn't be very many other options for Italian restaurants in London. However, due to the slightly higher price point and my overall personal experience here, I can only give it 2 stars. From a friend's recommendation, I actually came here for my birthday dinner. My boyfriend made a reservation for 7 and we were so excited when we arrived because we overheard other patrons commenting that "the wait for a table would take an hour". To start the meal, I ordered a peach bellini. Honestly, it was terrible. There was too much separation of slush from liquid and the flavour of the beverage was watered down. I didn't really taste the alcohol, but also I didn't really taste the sweetness. For my main course, I ordered an off-menu seasonal special which was a butternut squash agnolotti and my boyfriend ordered the chicken parmesan. Both were alright, with the chicken parm being more underwhelming. The breading of the chicken didn't work well - it was too mushy and falling apart - and the chicken meat itself wasn't that tender. The agnolotti on the other hand had nice flavours, but I thought it was a little too dry and was pretty expensive for what, like 6 pieces of pasta? The major downfall of this experience was the excruciatingly slow service time. From ordering to actually receiving my food, it took a good 45 minutes. I was starving and getting impatient, especially since it was my birthday - it felt like a huge waste of my time. I did end up getting a complimentary tiramisu with a sparkler for dessert but it wasn't enough to make up for the time lost. I was also SUPER annoyed by the fact that because of the restaurant's open patio concept, during my entire hour and a half experience sitting there waiting for food, there were 3-4 flies that would incessantly bother us. Love their patio! With the amount of huge flowers it feels like an oasis from the parking lot that it overlooks. Food was very fresh and delicious. Menu however is limited. Came here for a birthday celebration while in town, and was expecting something amazing due to recommendations and especially upon overhearing someone in the parking lot say it was a 1-hour wait at the time (luckily we had reservations). The food was alright. The daily special of squash agnolotti was rich and flavourful, but portion size was small. Chicken parm was just chicken parm, nothing special about it at all and probably quite overpriced at $24. While we didn't order it, we saw a lot of mussels coming out of the kitchen and would probably have added it on if our food didn't take close to FORTY-FIVE minutes to come after ordering. Definitely felt some regret in choosing this restaurant and wasting a chunk of our limited time in London sitting there hungry waiting for food. They gave us seats at a tiny, very high bar table, which we refused as we are seniors who don't want to climb up a ladder to sit and risk falling. We were then directed to the patio which was quite nice. The lasagna cheese had the texture of coarse sand. Went for dinner Last Friday . We were seated promptly . The appetizers came fairly quickly . Dinner was over an hour later . Fettucine was undercooked and pizzas were watery and undercooked as well. Were told of our time restriction and really glad they didn't make us leave before we were finished . Its a shame as we were really looking forward to our night out. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant. I would have called them directly but were unable to reach by phone as they seem to be screening the calls . I'm surprised to see the negative reviews! We popped in here for lunch recently after a visit with some family friends. We were all in a somber mood but needed to eat and weren't really wanting a fast food option. We called before we went as it was a holiday but they were open for biz and for a bit we were the only people in the whole place which soon changed and it was hopping! I wasn't familiar with any of the wines on the menu and was deliberating with another person on what we should get. I saw a Barbera and went for that as it channeled a great Barbera my hubby and I enjoy in a Washington State beach town. When your server says "Great choice!" you are usually in for a treat....no seriously! He didn't have to say anything other than "how many glasses?" I had the manicotti with a salad and enjoyed both very much. I left quite a bit of the sauce but manicotti is one of those dishes you need saucy so it wasn't a big deal. I visited Dolcetto with three family members to celebrate a birthday lunch. I hadn't heard of the restaurant before then, but the family had heard good things. We were able to be seated right away as lunch was just beginning, and they gave us a choice of tables. Our waitress was pleasant and friendly, and various staff members came by regularly to refill our waters. We were very comfortable at first. As the restaurant filled, it became incredibly loud and echoey and we had trouble hearing one another. We had a bit of a time limit, which we mentioned to our server, and she did indeed make sure our entrees came out quickly. Unfortunately, I think the quality of our food suffered because of the rush. I ordered the pollo crema di aglio because I love a cream sauce. Sadly, the dish wasn't creamy at all, and the sauce was so oily it separated before my eyes. The chicken was quite dry and overcooked and the sauce was very bland. My son's chicken parm was the same - bland sauce, overcooked chicken and too much oil. We had dessert and the mango gelato I ordered was delicious. I think I would return to Dolcetto to try a different entree without a rush order to see if that makes a difference, but it won't be for a while given the high prices. Incredibly disappointed with the rude and condescending interaction with the owner/manager Dino at Dolcetto - especially on Mother's Day while visiting with my Grandma. After placing our order, our waitress came back to let us know that the kitchen did not have time to separate eggs to accommodate an egg yolk allergy, so we requested an allergen menu to place a new order. The manager then came to patronizingly explain that they could not accommodate any food allergies because they were too busy before rushing off - the restaurant had less than 5 tables seated and still not even half full before we left. No other options were offered to accommodate allergies and while our waitress was apologetic, the manager and hostess LAUGHED off our unpleasant experience. We left hungry and appalled. Since it was a holiday, restaurants were booked so finally, brunch was from the grocery store. Feel like Italian, but don't want the traditional chain restaurant "all you can eat salad and breadsticks" experience? Dolcetto is worth a try. Fresh ingredients, an approachable wine list, excellent service and a really great patio add up to a nice experience. The fried risotto balls are a must try item. All of their pastas are fantastic, but my favourites are the gnocchi and risotto. The pizzas are also very good. They also make one heck of a veal parmesan. Very kid friendly, they give "silly strings" for the young ones to play with and have a decent kids menu. I'm not usually a fan of restaurants in the burbs' but this is worth checking out if you find yourself in this corner of the city. read more

I've given Dolcetto three chances, and I wouldn't go back. The restaurant is beautiful and the patio is wonderful in the summer and I understand that this is a "nice" place for London but the food is mediocre at best. I've had their pizza, pasta and eggs at brunch and all of it was underwhelming and ridiculously overpriced. My family and I were just there on Tuesday for dinner and the bill came to $100 without alcohol or dessert. For some reason there was also an abundance of salt in all the dishes- even the bread to start. I'd rather end up at a Moxies or Milestones then eat here. read more

Another time I ordered the Butter Squash Ravioli, it was pretty good but could use a little more flavour. However , for the pis de resistance , a must try is their in-house tiramisu. By far the best I've ever had and I've had plenty. I enjoy it so much I come just for a piece of Tiramisu and a cappuccino. The service is excellent and very friendly. TL;DR: Food was good, but the bill left a sour taste in my mouth. With 3 young children, my wife and I don't often get to go out on dates. When we do, we usually go to Bertoldi's, a favourite of ours. Last night, Bertoldi's didn't have a table available and we were too hungry to wait, so we decided to give Dolcetto another try (we'd been there once before). I ordered the fettucine dolcetto, and asked for the chicken breast to be replaced by zucchini, as I wanted a vegetarian option. The dish tasted much as expected, with nicely balanced flavours, and the portion was generous. My wife ordered the ravioli (no surprise - she loves any kind of cheese-filled pasta) and asked if it would be possible to mix some of the gorgonzola sauce (found in another dish) into the pomodoro sauce. My wife asks for blush sauce (or something creamier than pomodoro sauce) at whichever Italian restaurant we go to and 9 times out of 10 this request is honoured. Our server last night suggested that he could bring some gorgonzola sauce on the side so that my wife could mix it in with her pomodoro sauce, which she agreed to. We were quite full but ordered dessert anyway, a rich chocolate cake with a hint of basil which I loved but my wife hated. It was all in all a lovely date, until we received the bill and saw that we had been charged $2.50 for the gorgonzola sauce! I asked the server about this and he said that he had tried to put it through as $0.99 but it was a premium sauce so he had to put it through for $2.50. We both felt that charging us $2.50 for the sauce was extremely petty, given that: a) we had spent over $100 on dinner (including wine and dessert); b) I had requested zucchini instead of chicken breast in my $22 pasta (clearly zucchini is much less expensive than chicken breast and $22 is not normal for a vegetarian pasta dish, but there was no corresponding reduction in price); c) my wife had requested to change the sauce, anyway, not to add additional sauce! Despite the nice atmosphere, ease of booking a table and reasonable food, we will not be eating here again in a hurry. London has plenty of good Italian restaurants to choose from who treat their customers well. read more

I went by Dolcetto multiple times without checking it out. It wasn't until my boss decided to have lunch with me there that I actually went in. First glance it looks beautiful. Lovely wooden decor and a friendly atmosphere. The staff was pleasent and friendly. They start you with some water right away (which I love) and give you bread and olive oil for a pre dinner snack. I've gone for breakfast and dinner and both times were amazing. For breakfast I got blueberry pancakes and they were some of the best pancakes I've ever had. For dinner I had the soup of the day and one of their pizzas with Bruschetta for an app. Delish fresh ingredients are always used. Whether you are interested in lunch breakfast or dinner, this is a great place to try out if you like Italian food! read more

First the positives. The atmosphere is lovely and the patio is one my favourites! Friends and I often frequent Dolcetto for a catch up over their delicious sangria. I should mention that service is excellent as well. As for the food, one word, awful. I have yet to have a good meal here. At first I assumed it was just a bad day. The second time I thought maybe it was my choice, but I have finally come to terms with the fact that food is not a reason to come here. Last night I ventured to Dolcetto for my birthday dinner purely because the location is close to home and we were in the mood for a patio night. First, our server Lindsay was lovely, as was the bar tender who provided an extra birthday shot for me. Knowing the food is often hit and miss, minus the hit, my bf and I decided on the fettuccine Alfredo. Our rational was if "michelinas" can pull of a microwaveable dish that's ok, then Dolcetto should be able to pull this off as well. We were terribly wrong. My first bite tasted like plain pasta. I asked for more sauce, but realized quickly that this was equivalent to adding water to the dish. There was absolutely zero seasoning to the sauce. Furthermore the chicken was so very over cooked. I immediately had it packaged up in hopes to add some of my own Alfredo sauce at home and salvage my $18 pasta dish. Our server could see my disappointment and brought us out a desert to share. Truthfully I would have preferred the pasta removed from my bill. So will I return? Sadly, likely. Went for a family member's birthday dinner. The menu had many options that fit everyone's taste buds. I requested to have a candle for the birthday dessert. They remembered the request and brought it promptly after we finished dinner. Portions were not large except for the salmon (highly recommended) and I could have ate more but the flavour and taste made up for it (I had the trout). Delicious food!! Highly enjoyed the environment although it was a bit loud. The staff were generally helpful and brought everything that we asked for and was able to answer questions about the dishes as if they had actually tried the food before. The atmosphere of this place is certainly unlike any other in London. It's an open terrace and very cool. I had the Santa Lucia pizza tonight and subbed the arugula for basil (which was a delicious choice btw). Their crust is delicious they make it super thin and crispy- super authentic. The service was pretty good, I would have appreciated if our waiter came around a little bit more to check in but I could see he had quite a few tables to look after. After learning all the pasta was made in-restaurant I ordered Papperdalle pasta (wide egg noodles with a traditional lamb sauce) and my husband ordered Lasagna. Both dishes were very fresh & tasty. For dessert I ordered a cannoli and my husband, mint chocolate gelato. The cannoli was not the typical bakery version I was expecting. It used a chunkier ricotta with chocolate shavings that overflowed the cannoli shell onto the plate. It was great in its own rite but I still prefer the original version. She ensured that none of our selections infringed upon my dietary restrictions. If you are clear about your limitations from the outset, you shouldn't have a problem. Wine list: large enough. Three choices of prosecchi ($10-$13). More than seven each of the whites and reds by the glass, plus rosé. Menu: again, large enough. Multiple sandwiches and salads for lunch, plus the option of ordering off the regular menu. Pappardelle with lamb, chicken saltimbocca, several seafood options, plus vegetarian dishes, so there is something for everyone. Large portions. On that point, a small plea: if you are able, please consider keeping food storage containers in your car so that you can wrap up the uneaten portion when dining out. It saves small businesses money (a little bit from each diner adds up over the course of a year) and it saves packaging from going into a landfill. Try it - you'll be surprised at how good you feel. In London visiting friends and they brought us here..as the place to try...looks like a great place in the summer to experience the patio - unfortunately a bit too cold tonight Service was exceptional and very friendly and quick for a more of a formal restaurant.. Two appies - Polpotte and Roasted Prosciutto... both very tasty however three of each - odd portion size and for four one went without with each - so couples can't share easily, The bottle of wine had between the girls was very much enjoyed, great wine list - and wait staff was very knowledgeable of all brands.. Four entrees: Rigatoni Sorrento, Agnolotti, Conchiglie and Linguine Di Mare - all were very tasty and lets just say no complaints from the table We were the last table in the restaurant and there was no rushing us out the door or anything - in fact the manager came and offered free desert to thank us for our patronage.. which really top off a great meal.. nice touch (3 x tiramisu, conolli) Service, food, flavour all really good - don't expect a fast cheap meal with a full dinner service. read more

An wonderful addition to the London dining scene! The decor and ambiance is truly unique and fun. While there is no way for any place in Southwestern Ontario to capture the magic of Europe, Dolcetto comes close enough for me. My wife and I have had a lunch and a dinner here so far.
