12/6/24: It has been some time since we last went to Los Jefes. When we first went there, it was absolutely incredible on all levels but then, things changed and the quality of the drinks and food went down. On our last visit the fajitas were incredibly salty and we did not even finish them. Well, THEY ARE BACK! I am very happy to say this! We went there last week and had the chicken and steak fajitas and they were incredible once again. Great flavor, well seasoned, cooked to perfection. I have one big complaint, however, and it has something to do with their supplier. In my wife's and my opinion, the shells they provide to you for the fajitas are an absolute joke. Taco Bell's shells are larger. Every other Mexican food restaurant I have gone to are larger. Really, guys, I don't want to hear about your supplier, I could not care less and really do not want excuses. Then, the bartender has the Gaul to tell us that they are designed more for pushing than making a fajita! DO NOT tell me how to eat my meal and do not come up with such a poor excuse. This place has great Margaritas. Donnie is an incredible chef putting out the best Fajitas in the city! Don't insult your restaurant, your customers, and Donnie and give your customers Fajita shells that would be better suited to little hands in a grade school cafeteria! read more

Went on a Saturday for brunch to try the birria and grits along with bottomless mimosas. Service was friendly, though it took a little while for my server to get to me at first. Once I ordered, the food and drinks came out quickly. The 'unlimited' mimosas actually cap at 5, which is fine, but the mix they use cheapens the drink, and the glasses weren't the cleanest. The birria and grits were good (about a 7/10), though I think the pre-shredded Mexican blend cheese on top took away from the dish. A traditional white cheese would have worked better. The birria tacos were tasty, though. The bathrooms could use attention as there were no paper towels, which makes me wonder what employees do after washing their hands. Overall, it was a good experience and definitely cost-efficient. With a few tweaks to the drinks and presentation, this place could easily go from a 3-star to a 4- or 5-star brunch spot. The service was nice and friendly. The house Margarita tasted balanced and definitely worth $5 on Mondays. The strawberry Tres Leches on the other hand was not my favorite. I have never had a dry Tres Leches. The cake tasted half moist, no condensed milk flavor at all, the strawberry added a little flavor, otherwise it tastes like a cheap cake with whipped cream and a strawberry on top. I still love their churros and other menu items but this was not for me. If they improve the recipe I might try it again but for $8 it was not worth the buy. read more

I usually order Los Jefes to go and I swear there has never been one time where my entire order is in the bag. They tie the bag so tight but I've lately been busting the bag open to double check while I'm there because it's been too many times I've gotten home and something is missing. There's been times where I've ordered queso and got no chips, ordered Birria and got no consume, and don't get me started on the $2.00 Chipotle ranch that's never in my bag. On my last visit there was no Chipotle ranch and the host told me they were out and tried to give me the free salsa in replacement. I'm like this was $2... this won't cut it. However, I still end up here on Tuesdays because I love their chorizo queso and nobody else's really compares. But I wish they could be trusted to get it right read more

Finally made it to the infamous Los Jefes! And, it was generally good. Here's the positive stuff: the food was sooo good! I got the chicken fajitas; the portion was great and the chicken was super juicy and well-seasoned. I'd make the drive to JP just to get to-go fajitas. I got the $20 bottomless marg Wednesday special, and it was pretty good. The syrup wasn't too artificial and sweet; the black berry flavor had a nice tang to it. Things I didn't love: the cleanliness wasn't up to par. It def had that kinda sticky, stuffy chain restaurant aesthetic and smell. And, the restrooms weren't up to par (no hand soap...kinda grosses you out, especially in a restaurant). I don't think the drinks were potent enough; I kind of felt like I was drinking sugar water (I'm not big on drinking my calories, especially if I can't even achieve a buzz!). Our waitress was nice but she was moving quite slow (and barely anyone was in the restaurant). We had to flag her down for marg refills every 20-30min or so, which is kind of annoying when you purchase a "bottomless" option and when you can see that the server isn't busy. Went here last night. Seated fast, service was good, and food was good. I wouldn't get any drinks from them, ordered house margarita it was a complete waste of money. When he brought it out I noticed it had more ice than liquor, and drink had nothing but lime juice. Definitely wasn't worth the money! read more

The service was good, the waitress seemed to care. But the food was well... Well to start, we got the chips and salsa. Chips were stale. We decided to get our appetizer with our meal which was just queso. Which the flavor was there, but yk when cheese sits for a while and kinda creates a film on top? Why did it already have that when first being put down on the table? Kinda turned me off but I continued. The birria tacos. Please don't get my started. Wayyy too much cilantro , couldn't even taste the tender meat I was promised. Didn't enjoy them at all. Were a nice size though, but couldn't finish not one. Just wasn't good. Not authentic at all.Also got a side of French fries, which were cold as soon as it touched the table , we got them taken off the tab. The ambiance was good though. Cute decor and clean bathroom. Our server was amazing ! Very attentive and continuously made sure everything was ok! I ordered the shrimp and crawfish quesadillas. It wasn't a big deal for me, but maybe the server should say that it's a crawfish sauce, or the menu should list it (lent menu specifically) but overall it was good and I would order it again ! Los Jefes has good food was pretty good for the most part. However the service needs coaching, There were numerous employees with very little customers and yet the food took as long as if it was a full house. The cooks in the kitchen had music so loud that it drowned out the restaurant music. Also the greeter was rude in my opinion. read more

First time here, food was amazing. However I was very disappointed with the service. Our server Jordan, (i believe her name was) did great however, the other employees were always on their phone, had AirPods in and were not able to help us out when we had a question. This place is absolutely adorable. Everything from the decor to the drinks. It definitely makes you feel like you're at home in Mexico. We started off with the fresh scratch me guacamole which was super delicious. We also enjoyed a margarita flight. My favorite was the cucumber, it was very refreshing! And of course had to get birria tacos and a Quesabirria my favorite! So creamy and super packed with meat I loved it. And the service was on point! We sat outside but you pass through the restaurant to get there. Inside is cold but an average size with nice decor as far as I could tell. Once on the enclosed patio, the playlist was poppin' which helped that it took a good minute for our server to get to us. Excellent server though, friendly & efficient named Maya. Honestly we talked junk abt the yummy Patrón Fridays' Watermelon Margaritas being too candy and not enough tequila. Since I am editing this the next morning--obviously wrong abt the strength of said margaritas lol. Delicious, super fresh shrimp and crawfish nachos, grilled piña and pickled cabbage. FIRST OF ALL WHO DOESN'T LIKE TACOS?! It was a Taco Thursday for me! This was my first time dining here! They have different specials all week long. On Thursdays it's bottomless margaritas and you can switch up the flavors! I would prefer a more top shelf liquor but that's just me. For my seafood tacos, I chose two shrimp and one redfish and it came with rice and beans. Every was fresh and well seasoned! When I looked up best nachos, this place popped up. And it's no lie the shrimp and crawfish nachos are delicious. It's large , prob two can share one order. Also the Birria egg rolls were great. The dipping sauce was just ok though. The service and the atmosphere was good. Although I ordered a Mojito and it was disappointing. Not good at all. Los Jefes is on my top 3 list of favorite Mexican restaurants. You can't go wrong with the food and definitely not the margaritas. If you can't make it to Mexico for a margarita, they are your next bet. They make their margaritas with love!! So Many food options, but my favorite is the the shrimp and fish tacos. The service is great, the waiters(tresses) keep the margies flowing. If you wanted to see just how many margies you can handle, visit them on Wednesdays when they have bottomless, make sure you have a DD though. They are other specials and events they have throughout the month, just check their website. It is a Mexican restaurant, so you know it isn't quiet! Until we meet again! read more

Also wasn't very happy when I got my bill and found out that apparently you are only allowed to take part in one special even when there are more than one special going on that night. It would've been nice to at least be made aware of this at some point before getting the bill. What stood out for me is the amount of seating. There's plenty of it, interior and exterior. It's clean, casual and comfortable. And close to Lakeside, which is where we were leaving and didn't want to travel far. The server gave us complimentary chips and salsa, but we also took advantage of free queso by checking in on Yelp. I'm always down for queso and free food. Winning! So I thought. We split the surf and turf quesadilla and an order of southwest egg rolls. The chips were light and crispy, but could've used some salt. The salsa was disappointing. It was watery and more akin to crushed tomatoes than salsa. The queso didn't live up to expectations either. The flavor was muted. While I liked the texture of the egg rolls, the wrappers were light and crispy, they had too much filler (rice, beans) and not enough chicken. Upon the rare chance I tasted chicken, however, it was good. The jalapeño ranch dipping sauce was the highlight of the meal. It was so good that we ordered some to go. I even went on the Walmart app looking for jalapeño ranch. The quesadilla was decent. The shrimp could've used more seasoning. The steak was well seasoned, but I didn't taste enough of it. The tortillas were warm and toasty, though. The sides of rice and beans did nothing for the plate. The rice was hard and flavorless, and the beans weren't special. The Tropicana lemonade was a fine replacement for homemade, and they kept the drinks coming. Our server was nice, attentive, and knowledgeable. The last few times I've had Los Jefes have been disappointing. They seem to be a bit inconsistent. For instance, the taco salad may or may not come with the salad dressing requested. I also tried their enchiladas and seafood tacos on separate occasions. The enchiladas were so dry and simply lacked flavor. The seafood "catch of the day" tacos were okay. The place was very busy. The waitress was very stressed with the 4 pairings at the bar. She looked frazzled and was not welcoming. It took about 20 minutes to get water which we didn't get straws for another 10 minutes. There were two young men seated after us and they received their drinks writhing 10 minutes of sitting. When our order was finally placed, I asked for meat only tacos and I received fully dressed tacos. I reminded her that I asked for meat only and she had an attitude when I expressed it was not what I ordered. Unfortunately, the timeliness of receiving my new order was out of her control but it was the lack of consistency. My friend completed her food and drink and I still had no food. She was almost done when we received our drink. The other bartender served the two white gentleman free shots and a complimentary drink for their wait. I'm appalled and disgusted by the fact that the two of them together service equalled the skills of a 10 year old playing varsity football. The two stars is simple for the flavors of the Tinga chicken and grilled chicken tacos. They were delicious... service win stars... they didn't say thank you for your patience nor apologize for their lack of attention to detail. I've been to los jefes before and they never disappoint BUT I recently went to a vip experience here for National tequila day and omg it was amazing! I had so much fun. The staff was attentive and friendly. There were 3 different tacos included. We got 2 off each kind. The fried catfish taco was my favorite. It was crispy and flavorful. We also got shots of 4 different tequila brands. Each tequila brand rep had 4 didn't shots available for us to try. There were also a few different cocktails available to us during the open bar portion of the event. After the open at was over we have to pay for the drinks which was fine. The cocktails were great. I think there were about 6 options available. This event was amazing. I'll definitely be back next year. The music selection was weird in a good way. It was a mixture of Latin music and hip hop. The pros: The food tasted pretty good and the portions were generous (we got the shredded chicken quesadilla). They got our food out to us very fast, which was nice. The chicken was better than the carnitas. Carnitas were a bit bland. The cons: there were only about 4 other tables eating lunch at the same time we were. I counted 7 employees standing around while we waited to get our table cleaned and have someone come over and take our order. I had to wave at the chef (who I could see inside the kitchen), so that he could tell someone to come take our order. The service was just not very good. I probably would try to find a better Mexican restaurant before coming back here. read more

My Yelp BFF and I love a good taco Tuesday and it's safe to say we found another place for our taco Tuesdays. Great location on Edenborn around Lakeside mall. The atmosphere is pretty festive. Pretty nice size spot with different rooms and an outside patio. Be sure to check in when you arrive for free queso. Great, fast service. Staff was very friendly. We got the 2 for 1 margaritas and the seafood tacos. The drinks were good and the tacos were tasty. I'm pretty sure we'll be back soon. read more
