Pork gyro. Squishy pita and an overly sweet sauce that overwhelmed everything.
    Stevee D.

I was excited to try this place. First, they only had pork and chicken. They did not have gyros meat in strips like you'd normally see. I didn't enjoy it very much. The pita bread wasn't the best, the pork was meh. The worst is that it had this pink sauce on it (in addition to the tzatziki) that tasted like ketchup. I had a Greek salad as a side and it was the most bland tasting salad ever. The feta was absolutely tasteless. Very disappointing experience. I took most of it home and ended up trashing it.

This gyro location is a new gyro spot in the area. As I walked in, I was greeted by the gentlemen working behind the counter. He was very nice and friendly while taking my order. For food, I ordered four chicken sandwiches. Two Greek pita bread gyros and two Baguette bread gyros. They both tasted good and ingredients were fresh. Chicken meat tasted good no weird smell like some other locations. Overall , very satisfied with my sandwich. For ambiance, there is plenty of seating area. You can order to go or enjoy the food there. I really liked the choice of color for seats. They were really nice blue color. For parking, this location is located in a shopping plaza and it shares the parking with other stores. Therefore, it can be tricky and there is street parking available too. P.S this store has a credit card processing charge of three percent. If you don't like to pay extra fees, make sure to have cash when visiting.

First tome here and it was a good experience ! My order was made to my specs super fast - impressive ! Food was tasty and parking was easy - the only drawback was that beef gyros were not available at Noon - only chicken and pork - I opted for chicken.

The staff also wears gloves when handling food. There are some hand sanitizers available for customers to use. This place is available for take outs and has some indoor & outdoor seating available with some indoor limited capacity. They are not sanitizing in between customers.  COVID-19 Vaccination Proof: This establishment currently does not require proof of vaccination.  While I was here eating my food in this establishment a month ago, I asked if they had any special offers and they weren't offering any at the moment. They currently don't have happy hour. They also do not allow pets in their establishment UNLESS it's a service animal. But this isn't strictly enforced. Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is incredibly small. They have valet parking. I urge you to park on the street. However, be wary of the signs. On one side, there is a no parking sign on Wednesdays from 12PM - 3PM. On the other side, it says no parking on Thursdays from 12PM - 3PM. Basically don't go there on Monday and Tuesday (they are closed) and Wednesday and Thursdays for horrible street parking. It is a shame that a cute mom and pop restaurant closed. I am sad that I did not know about it sooner. I would have came more frequently. They have been opened since 1948. Very impressive! Food: I ordered a baklava, spanakopita, and gyro sandwich. The house made baklava went perfect with my coffee the next day. A delicious start to a new day. The baklava combines layers of honey-soaked crisp phyllo pastry and a cinnamon-scented nut mixture with pistachios, walnuts, and hazelnut. To me, nothing rivals homemade baklava. The texture of crispy and flaky phyllo pastry. The crunchy filling. And the warm honey syrup. It is all I want in a dessert / breakfast. The spanakopita was very delicious and filling. This spanakopita had sauteed spinach, feta cheese and seasonings, all wrapped up in phyllo dough and baked until golden brown and crisp. It's the perfect blend of spinach, cheese, onions, and herbs in a buttery crust. It was very savory. The gyro sandwich was so mouthwatering. My gyro sandwich included succulent, marinated, and seasoned lamb and beef grilled to perfection. Then it was wrapped up with fresh tomatoes, onions, lettuce, and feta cheese in warm, soft, and slightly chewy pita, and slathered in delicious homemade creamy tzatziki sauce. I got a pistachio yogurt bar from their mini deli and market area. It was so nutty, creamy, and rich. Perfect for a hot summer's day. I love that they use real pistachio with yogurt to make it. None of the fake artificial stuff was used. Glad I didn't offer my close friend a bite of this otherwise he would have suffered a severe allergic reaction in the restaurant. That would have made the dining experience incredibly memorable, and not in a good way LOL I love that they have a complimentary water station for customers to grab as much water as they want. Staff: The staff here are very kind, friendly, and helpful. They accept both cash and credit cards. There is no credit card minimum.

After leaving DTLA to work in the suburbs, I haven't been back and sad to say, it took a looming permanent closure to bring me back. What I loved about the place is still tried and true: a free parking lot (just need to tip the valet) and delicious Greek good. I don't eat lamb so my go to back then was the fish sandwich. I got it again, over 10 years later, and it is still as good as remembered. Prices have doubled (what can you expect in our current economy T_T), but the portion is still generous and the food still fresh and yummy. I brought BF and we ordered a spread enough for a family of four: spanakopita, tiropita, sausage appetizer, gyro sandwich, beef kefta patties sandwich (they were out of the beef kebab), fish sandwich, chicken kebab plate, and loukoumades dessert. Everything was fresh, light and delicious (okay, the dessert was a little too sweet for me)! We also grabbed a $3.99 baguette from the connected market. If you're planning on coming for one last visit before they close that first weekend of May 2025, make sure to come early and queue in the front of the store. The line will move and there should still be plenty of seating available after you order. If you come within the last 30 minutes before closing, you'll have to order to go. The employees here are still as courteous and friendly as ever. We were also jazzed to be graced with the presence of Chrys Chrys himself on our visit. We will miss you, Papa Cristo's!

Phenomenal. Instantly transported to the Plaka in Athens by this meal…read more Cool, airy atmosphere with sidewalk seating. An open concept for seating but still feels intimate. Service is prompt and without fuss. Pricing is fair, considering the gigantic portions. The dishes are easily shareable (if you are inclined to do so). One of the great things about going in a group is you can try a variety. Here's the scoop. Keftedes- nicely cooked. Grilled veggies - was supposed to be a mixture of eggplant, zucchini, onions, and peppers. This was predominately eggplant (which suited me just fine). Have a feeling it's how it's scooped on the plate when serving. Solid flavor and a huge portion. Souvlaki - asked for one pork and one chicken skewer to try them both. Both winners. Nicely grilled exterior and still juicy. The tzatziki was bright, creamy and lightly garlicky. Chopped onions, tomatoes, lettuce, and lemon wedges are also provided with pita if you feel like making little sandwiches. I prefer to use the pita to sop up the sauces. Bifteki- this was THE dish, hands down. The bifteki were cooked perfectly- grilled outside, tender and juicy inside. Seasoning was simple but flawless. I substituted the fries (which were good - I nabbed some from another plate) but the lemon potatoes stole the show. Incredible flavor. I did not want this dish to end, and will probably order it every time I visit. (If only I could convince someone to order the octopus and the moussaka. I have to try them but this portion is already huge.) Another thing I will order next time is a bottle of Malamatina. This retsina is so difficult to find in the US but is mind blowing when served icy cold. Yes. I said next time. This restaurant will be on permanent rotation when I'm in town.

You can't go wrong with the chicken souvlaki plate or the chicken pita wrap. Both come with generous portions of chicken, pita, dip, and veggies. The souvlaki is quite large as it comes with two skewers and I always take half of it to go - two meals in one! I tried the chicken pita wrap today and it came with tons of french fries, nice and crispy and well-seasoned. I would have preferred to not have the fries in the pita as it made the pita a bit hard to navigate. We also ordered the garlic dip with crudites and when I asked the waiter if the dip was garlicky, he replied "it's garlic dip." I thought maybe he misunderstood, so I asked again for clarification and he repeated the exact response a second time. It came across as unnecessarily rude ad dismissive. The dish itself was not that garlicky as it was made with breadcrumbs which he could have just described when asked about it the first time. The food was good overall, but the service interaction left a bad impression. We've had other waiters who were super friendly and helpful before, so this was hopefully a one-off. Parking is plentiful in the area, take your pick from meters or neighborhood parking.

Here, you don't worry about constantly increasing menu prices or garbage point of sale credit card machines that automatically prompt you to leave a 25% tip on your takeout meal. Owned by Greeks and run by Greeks, they serve the best Greek food you will ever find anywhere else. I have specifically searched everywhere in Los Angeles to find better gyro, and I've come up empty handed. The closest I've found is the sadly closed down Papa Cristo's. Let's get back to Aliki's. The gyro meat is carefully prepared out of Chicago and shipped here regularly, and don't let pita bread fool you - most places give you thin and unappetizing pita; theirs comes from a special bakery and comes out thick and beautiful, the way you want it when you dip it into their homemade hummus or melitzanosalata. Sometimes items are not available on the menu. In a world where high anxiety rests on heads of restaurant managers to never fail to have a menu item in stock, it's quite refreshing to know the restaurant is run by humans. The duck hummus, shawarma neck, and tuna kibbeh were all standout dishes. Why overpay at places like Raffi's Place, where the food feels overpriced without showing where the extra money went? The only downside was that the waitress pushed an appetizer on us twice when we really didn't need it. Two entrées are more than enough to fill you up. This cozy neighborhood spot (formerly Freedman's) has that perfect casual-yet-vibrant vibe--think breezy Greek taverna meets LA cool--with excellent charcoal-grilled dishes and a great all-Greek wine list. The service was genuinely amazing. Our server Petra took incredible care of us from start to finish--attentive, knowledgeable, and warm without being over-the-top. And shoutout to the incredible bartender Penny. The whole team made us feel right at home. We went family-style and ordered a fantastic spread: * The lamb was a highlight--tender, perfectly grilled, and packed with flavor * Saganaki was cheesy, crispy, and fun. * Branzino came beautifully grilled with bright lemon orzo--fresh, flaky, and spot-on. * Mushrooms were earthy and well-seasoned. * Crispy fries were addictive. * We ended on a sweet note with honey balls (those little fried dough bites drizzled in honey--crispy, sticky, and addictive) and the baklava pie. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and meant for sharing. Portions lean toward the smaller side (typical for meze-style Greek plates), so ordering a variety works perfectly for a group. Greekman's hits that sweet spot of quality ingredients, simple execution done right, and welcoming hospitality. Whether you're in the vine-covered patio, intimate dining room, or at the speakeasy-style bar, it's a winner. We'll definitely be back--highly recommend!

I had the chicken souvlaki (which was super tasty) with a big piece of pita (fresh) and the herbed rice (also very tasty), as well as the very lemony potatoes, which was crisp and yes, lemony, but not too sour, just the right amount. We also got the honey balls, which were sort of churro-ish but balls. The place was also nice and clean (though a little too dark if, like me, you get there early and have to kill time before the rest of your party arrives, so you try to read, but can't), and the staff was helpful and friendly. So, what do you need to be prepared for? Well, they usually serve stuff family style. Because of this, things don't come out at all once. In our case, we got the pita a good 10-15 minutes before the chicken. But while this would normally be a blemish, it wasn't because not only did my friends tell me this would happen, but so did our server. Which is why I'll go again, especially since I now know what to expect. One last note: the place is in a strip mall, and while I had no problem finding a spot, my friends had to go elsewhere.
