Why in the name of all that is holy did I wait years to come in here? OK, I have had a lifelong love affair with another taqueria down Maple Ave for years, and perhaps I felt like this was cheating or something? Regardless, I'm so glad I finally got in here. This place is the bomb.... not your typical taqueria in any way. Unique menu, awesome staff, amazing food. First time in I opted for the tacos. I got a steak, chicken, and a cheese and pepper. Just delightful. They're huge tacos too- I was famished and 3 put a dent in my appetite that was just right. Second time in I tried the rice bowl with steak. This is their version of the Chipotle Burrito Bowl, but Los Dos' is way better. Maybe not "better" to everyone, but different and delicious. Staff were super nice and got me fed quickly. Yum! Yum! Yum! 4.5 stars on Yelp? I had to see what the fuss was about, and I don't regret it! It's a small little restaurant in a small little plaza. Little did we know, you have to order at the counter and then sit at a table. We did the exact opposite and sat down at a table waiting for someone to take our orders. Whoops! I ordered three steak tacos with lettuce, tomatoes and cilantro. Yes, they're $2.95 each and pricey, but they definitely don't skimp on the meat and are a decent size. You can also tell that it's better quality meat than most of the other taco joints in the area (no nasty, fatty pieces!). What's also great is that the tortillas are handmade. This might be the first restaurant I've visited that goes that route. We also didn't know you had to go back up to the counter to pay after you finish eating. We just sat at our table waiting for someone to give us the check. Whoops again! Overall, I highly recommend visiting this little gem in the west burbs. read more

This is an awesome little Mexican restaurant in Downers Grove to visit if you are craving some high quality Mexican food. There aren't many tables inside, so this might be an issue on the weekends, but on a weekday there is plenty available. The interior of the restaurant is more on the plain side, so I hope that one day they jazz it up a little. Even though the interior is plain, the restaurant is very clean kept up well. Their menu has some great options for both main dishes, appetizers, desserts, and even beverages. I ordered the Lamb taco, salbutes (like a taco), and flan. The meat in the lamb taco was very tender and flavorful. I had never had a lamb taco before, but was very pleased with my first experience. The only option for the salbutes is with the chicken and veggies. With the addition of a little bit of green salsa, this was also a delicious part of the meal. I brought my flan home, and ate it in bed while I relaxed that same night. In the past, I have not had the most impressive experiences with flan, but the flan from here was a different story. The flan was the perfect consistency and flavor. The flan from Los Dos is the best I've had at any restaurant in the Chicagoland area so far. This is my first time going. I've been eyeballing this place for months. I decided after my workout that I'll finally try a couple of tacos. First thing noticed, it was a smaller place and almost full by 4:30. Secondly, I only had my cards with me so I had to buy $10 worth of things. Which wasn't a let down. I got two chicken tacos, side of rice and horchata. Came out to a little over $10 which is pretty nice considering. I waited for the takeout almost 10 mins. Sipping on really tasty horchata. Went home and found out that the chicken were steak tacos (oh well) I actually wasn't sure if I ordered it or not because I was looking over chicken and steak. Anyway, got the mild salsa drizzled on top and bit into them. Holy god it was amazing. If any of you like authentic Mexican cuisine like myself and always found the food to be on the dry side, this was by far the juiciest taco I had ever had in my like. How have I never known about this little gem of a restaurant near me? It was our first time so we ordered to go: large guacamole, Salbute (crunchy shell with chik, cabbage, pickled onion, tomato), Steak, Chicken and and Roasted Pepper tacos. They offered us two small containers of salsa also for free to go, and we had a choice between hot, med, and mild. My husband loved the med hot salsa, and the chips taste home-made (entire brown bag of them). My corn shell on the Salbute was def very freshly homemade (tasted amazing). I love their shredded chicken, and quality and taste of the steak in my taco --plentiful and tender. The guacamole was perfectly done--not bland but not too spicy. We also added the cheese, lettuce, tomato and sour cream to each item (10-15 cents each per item, so figure 45 cents extra on each item, still makes the tacos about $4 each)--the tacos come standard with onion and cilantro only. The best part of this amazing homemade meal is that the entire price was $25.00 for two. WOW. We went home and feasted!! Stilll have left over chips and guacamole. We will be back...... read more

My hubs is a foodie, and he could not get enough of the pork taco - braised and seasoned to perfection, topped with fresh and delicious accoutrement - and the presentation was delightful as well. The woman who runs the kitchen is as sweet as can be, and they have an open kitchen for all to see, and they laugh and talk like family. Love this place, modern taqueria vibes. Just ate here and was blown away by all the fantastic flavors, textures and spices. All the salsas were good, chips were a bit thick for my taste. We had the cochinita pibil, a marinated pork next to spiced beans, rice, and flour tortillas. We were in heaven! Wonderful flavors without the oily meat and tortillas we find at most places around here. I wouldn't go so far as to say that this place has authentic Mexican food. They use too much black pepper for my taste, which in my opinion does not belong with Mexican food. I also noticed that their salsas have a lot of pre-bought store seasoning. There are so many flavorful chiles that can be used instead of Goya sazón and black pepper. I also thought that the food and the salsas were a slight bit to the salty side. I do have to compliment their chicken. It was very soft and tender, and the seasonings were just right. Their tortillas, chips and masa are actually pretty good and I believe they are made in house. Mexican food is all about personal taste. Strip mall Mexican joints can be hit or miss sometimes. Los Dos however is the real deal. I honestly have to say the steak tacos I tried here reside with some of the finest you can get. Los Dos uses fresh tortillas and everything is delicious. Beef is really tasty, but tough. Kids don't like the toughness but adults won't mind because the flavor is so good. This restaurant is clean, conveniently located in a strip mall. The 4 stars is because most of the time we've eaten here it feels a little disorganized and understaffed. The food is good, though, and worth the wait. A chalkboard lists daily specials, out of stock items and ala cart details but its a pain to navigate, with other customers blocking the view while reading and deciding. Maybe the board could be hung higher? That chalkboard is important to read because its extra $ for just about everything other than the meal basic form. If you want lettuce, chopped tomato and onion with that taco, each addition costs extra. Who cares? Read on... Seating is tight, the restaurant is packed at lunch and dinner. Over sized handbags and back packs may bump the back of your head or shoulders, or loom dangerously above your meal. Unruly kids are an issue due to close proximity. Their problems are your problems! Talking over crying, shouting, and the parent's own loud conversations is a pain. Little ones might be bumping up against you throughout the meal, and it can be like dining at super crowded MacDonald's. If you've little darlings of your own, this is probably a great, casual place to take them! Outside seating faces the parking lot, and smells like exhaust, melting asphalt and sometimes garbage ( from the garbage can) on hot days. Sometimes a server won't bring chips, salsa, or water despite multiple requests. Be aggressive and loud when asking for something, or resign yourself to doing without. In her defense, the server is often the only person working: taking and serving the sit down orders, busing the tables, answering the phone, and handling the carry out and pick up orders. Suggestion : Order carry out and enjoy your meal at leisure elsewhere. Don't plan to dine in if you're in a hurry or want a quiet place to chat. read more

Very minimal menu, but thats not a bad thing. They do have homemade flour and corn tortillas so that is a plus. Be weary before coming to not order a burrito or Al Pastor tacos because they don't have em here. Tried the steak torta (my go to at any Mexican joint) and was pleasantly surprised. The bread they use is perfect bread to meat/toppings ratio. Prices are a bit higher than most mexican places, but you can tell its because they pump out quality stuff including the tortillas and salsas. Would recommend if you're in the area for sure. Came here for the first time to have lunch with a friend. Looked it up on Yelp and figured it was as good a place as any in the area. We were presently surprised with our choice. The food here is very good. They do not take American Express card but do take all the other credit cards as far as I can tell. The only reason I gave 4 stars was because they left a bay leaf in my beans and they were extremely spicy, and the prices are a little steep. $3 per taco and everything has to be ordered a la carte. 3 tacos with a side of beans and a can of pop was $13.60. Sorry Yelp for I have sinned. Its been over a year since my last Los Dos review. I shall begin with saying Los Dos is mucho mucho nice. Really I am not kidding they are super friendly. Los Dos has the freshest and on the spot homemade tortillas. I am in love with their steak tacos served with cilantro and onions. The steak is char-broiled and holds its flavor well. Clearly the creative minds behind the menu have done their homework. Los Dos serves only the best and produces 100% confidence. Today I cheated on my usual taco order with a Steak Torta. The bun was toasted and smothered in beans then lettuce, tomato, sour cream and avocado. Once again the steak's flavor greeted me with a jumping high kick to my tastebuds. It was another wining meal. So, I had Tres* at Dos. I never did take direction well. Los Dos is in a stripmall, a storefront Mexican place.. a touch more upscale than many and they serve wine and beer. It's also a scosh more pricey** *Tres I ordered three tacos: pollo, carne asada and carnitas.. and the special carnitas tamale. The tacos were all flavorful, but I was especially fond of the pork taco. Hence, I was also very fond of the tamale.. delicious! Even though I thought the tamale was pricey** I would get it again. The steak and chicken tacos were excellent as well. ** pricey means.. means maybe .50 to $1.00 more per item The service was very good, they only have a few tables.. you order at the counter and then they serve you at your table or the small bar area. I was given two hot sauces and while they were good tasting, they were meant for mere mortals... the owner brought me out a hotter sauce that was quite good.. but still not super hot. It's a nice, friendly atmosphere and the food is good.. overall it's reasonably priced.. while not as cheap as some of the other Mexican joints in the area. I will be back for sure. Watch for their special.. the chef (the other half of the Dos) likes to have some fun. read more

WOW I didn't know home-made tortillas could be so good! I don't know if I'll be going anywhere else for steak tacos. I had to meet some one and he suggested this place, and I'm glad he did because I didn't know this place even existed. I ended up ordering 2 tacos, chicken & steak for $2 each. The owner and I had a conversation about the different recipes he's been trying for the chicken and said he'd be changing it a little, but the steak was delicious = TRY THE STEAK TACOS! I also ordered the vanilla flan and literally could have died a happy woman. It is by far the best tasting flan I've ever had and just melts in your mouth.
