Great Méxican food, some American food, Full bar, Nice staff, Nice regulars, Comfortable Over the past 6-months or so, I'm becoming a regular at Compadres restaurant and bar. The food has been excellent on several visits, and the staff and regulars are real nice. On this visit (Jan 2026), I was just stopping in for a quick brew before a long evening. I've known some of the staff here, so I knew I'd be comfortable. The bar staff remembered my usual drink, which is always a welcoming feeling. I favor a tangy tequila drink as a great partner to the food, or any slightly-sweet cocktail or beer. They have a wide selection. And they remembered my favorite dish, which I've ordered here only once before! I love birria tacos, and they make a terrific recipe. It's tender slow-cooked shredded beef with rich savory flavors too complex to know all the ingredients. The beef picks up the sweet smokiness of mild peppers, perhaps chipotle, deeply-marinated for hours with herbs that i will guess as cumin, thyme, and others, and caramelized diced onion. It's loaded with some queso into a folded soft corn tortiila, which is soaked in the marinade, then pan or griddle-seared. Or maybe seared and then filled? Either way, it's a deeply-colorful hand-held like a super-flavorful super-juicy quesadilla. This birria-dilla is served with a dark reddish consommé of all the flavors of the beef and the marinade, for dipping and dousing and generally risking your clothing to splashes, spills, and wild abandon. Compadres also served me freshly fried thin very-lightly-spiced tortilla chips with a zingy fresh chunky red salsa, and i realized that, without thinking, i was dipping the chips in that luscious consommé more than the salsa! I enjoy the food and the relaxed ambiance of this little place. They recently added a lovely terrifically-detailed mural by a local artist of a pueblo magico, a village of delicious food and good compadres. You know those friends who you always seem to visit at meal-time for a taste of whatever is simmering? These Compadres are those compadres. read more

Great service and amazing margaritas with fresh squeezed oranges and limes! Bartender gave my son amazing attention. The pollo was really good with my kids food. I couldn't give 5 stars because some food items needed some love added to them. The salsa was good with a great level of spice. My husband ordered a mixed plate and on the suggestion of our server, I tried the Chile Verde chopped pork. Both were excellent and I was glad I strayed away from my usual Chili Rellenos. My husband ordered a margarita which I usually don't like. I tried his, and if I was not the driver, absolutely would have ordered one for myself! I love that you can order chile relleno, tacos, enchiladas, etc. a la carte here! Usually you have to buy a whole entree for those but they have them a la carte. It's a nice and small restaurant near the old town. It worked out for us, since it wasn't busy and we had a few kids with us. The food took a little long to come out but it was good. Service was good, our waitress seemed like a very young girl. So no complaints there.... She did her job. Plenty of parking in front and restrooms were just out of TP and garbage was full when we arrived. So I made sure to let the waitress know. I believe they did fixed those things. read more

Amazing food and great service. Any time I am in town to visit family, I make it a point to visit Los Compadres. They have great daily food and drink specials, plus you can't go wrong with any of their mix/match street tacos! Probably one of the coolest things that I witnessed here a few months ago was when a customer ordered a beer that they had run out of. So instead of saying they didn't have any, the manager causally left the restaurant and bought more at the near-by liquor store. Not bad for winging it while driving home from the city. The wait staff seemed very dude-like and chill. Not a problem for me as I don't care for servers being EXTRA. I think sour cream should just automatically come with the tacos. The street tacos were good but there's an option where you can make your own and, for some reason, I couldn't understand that out of 3 tacos, they could all be different. (Probably a lacking in intelligence on my part.) The cheese dip in the beginning was so good, I was scraping the remnants out with a freaking straw. Lol. Finally found a place that serves carne asada fries! This is the only reason I came here but I did have more than fries. When you come to this restaurant you may not be greeted but the waitress will ask you to take a seat anywhere you'd like and give you a menu. You get free chips and salsa which was yummy. The chips weren't too salty and the salas wasn't to spicy so anyone can eat it. ORDER: Steak Enchiladas with Rice, Refried Beans and Sour Cream. It was yummy. Carne Asada Fries were delicious - It came with the carne asada, Pico, guacamole and sour cream. The service was good. They have happy hour and a variety of adult drinks. There is a bar and a sign that said every Friday - Live Music. I'm going to have to come back on a Friday night to check out the atmosphere. I drool whenever I think about the Flautas. You can judge whether that's more of a reflection on me or the restaurant. They're really thick, covered in cheese, and crispy. So good. Chips and Salsa were fresh and crunchy. The salsa especially you can tell is handmade. I do wish they had a spicy version but that's just because I'm addicted to spice. Totcho's were nice, though I wish I could customize them more. My better half says that the Quesadilla wasn't very good-- soggy, supposedly. I've been here quite a few times and have seen ownership change. Until the last few times, I'd had less than stellar experiences. I saw the yelp reviews held strong and wondered if I was missing something so, periodically I'd return. I'm glad I did. So much has turned around. The service has been on point. The food has also significantly improved. I've recently had the combo fajitas and the barbacoa burrito, both were tasty with quality meat. They also have a great kids menu (above and beyond the typical burger, Mac n cheese type of selections). My only complaint is their house margaritas are way to sweet for me, but if you prefer your cocktails on the sweet side, I'm sure you'll love them. read more

I jumped onto Yelp to see if there were any highly-rated Mexican places nearby my current location at that moment (ACE Hardware in EC) and this place popped up. I called them up and put in a to-go order. The guy on the phone was really friendly and I got a feeling was possibly the owner. I was impressed there were traditional options and even lengua tacos available. When I arrived, there were a decent amount of people inside, and many at the bar. They seemed to be regulars. It was a fun vibe. I got my food, paid, and drove home, enjoying the smells filling my car. The food was good. Not the best Mexican food I've had. But definitely not typical Americanized Mexican food either. I placed a carry out order yesterday. The four stars are for a combination of convenience, service, and order accuracy. The food is as other yelpers described-solid and unassuming for a shopping center restaurant. The ingredients were fresh and flavorful. The website is under construction so I was able to access the menu via their Facebook page. They have solid choices including the standard Fajitas, Burritos, Tacos etc. The order was ready and hot when I picked it up, and was accurate. My husband got the Cali burrito (he asked for it without pico de gallo) which includes french fries, sour cream, cheese, and carne asada. He got the queso with chips and added chorizo. I got the Baja Shrimp tacos with black beans and white rice. The beans had cabbage, cilantro, pico de gallo, and the shrimp was flavorful. They were on the smaller side which works for the flour tortilla tacos. Total was $ 33.92 before tip. They seemed somewhat busy with a few tables in the small restaurant and some patrons sitting at their bar. Jeremy helped me with my order. They were friendly and I liked that I was able to get in and out. They quoted me about 15 minutes and in that time I went to the liquor store, got gas, and got a couple items from Weis. It's very convenient and was perfect for the occasion: a rainy Sunday where no one feels like cooking and sadly only two places deliver to us in Marriottsville. It makes me miss Uber eats. I would say it's authentic Mexicali cuisine as the logo suggest, and not bad for the Suburbs. Will be back. read more
