After seeing the crazy-long lines at the Mole Festival, I decided I wasn't going to wait around for potentially overpriced festival food. Some of it looked delicious, but I'd much rather support a local mole restaurant and enjoy a great meal without the wait! This place checks all the boxes when it comes to mole negro. Amazing food, fun decor, and delicious, authentic Oaxacan flavors. Honestly, it's a no-brainer for me! Good food, great atmosphere, and no crazy lines. Win-win! read more

After visiting the DTLA Mole Festival and seeing the crazy-long food lines, we decided to explore local mole restaurants instead. It turned out to be a delicious decision and a great way to support local businesses! This place is fun, festive, and serves some delicious Oaxacan mole negro! We tried both the mole rojo and mole negro, and both were amazing, but the mole negro definitely won my heart (and my tummy)! It's rich, flavorful, and absolutely worth coming back for. Good food, friendly service, and a wonderful discovery in the heart of Chinatown! Who would've thought we'd find such a gem of an Oaxacan restaurant here? So glad we stumbled upon this place. We'll definitely be back! read more

I've passed by this place many times and finally decided to walk in and was immediately transported to Oaxaca. The food is good and service was excellent. My favorite part was the colorful decor. This place is in the middle of Chinatown but for a brief moment, I was in Oaxaca. I will need to return to taste the Tlayudas. read more

Random find! Gotta love random finds. Had the place to myself for lunch. The ambience feels cultural. I can only imagine how it must be when its busy. My waitress was very nice & polite. I forgot the name to my plate but it was reeeeeally good, definitely different. I like mole but you can be dissapointed fast depending how its made. This was not the case, the whole plate smacked. The cafe de olla was really goo too, really hot so give it a sec! Would definitely consider going back. read more

Was in the area and decided to have late lunch with my mom. The place itself is so delicious. I am a sucker for Oaxacan cuisine. However, the prices are a bit outrageous. You also have to pay to park in the lot AND the restaurant charges a crazy fee to use your card to pay for the food. I'm not sure if this is a new policy, but it kinda sucks because no one carries that much cash these days. As for the food, it was so delicious. The mole was perfect. I enjoyed everything. The horchata was great too, but it was a bit too sweet for my taste. Overall, I'd give the taste of the restaurant a 10/10, but there's a few cons to eating there. Service was also a bit lacking. read more

Los Compadres de Oaxaca is a gem in the Chinatown area. My wife and I stopped by for lunch, and everything we had was delicious. I ordered the mole negro, which was rich, deep, and complex. You can tell the sauce is made with care. My wife had the mole burrito with asada and loved it just as much. Both dishes were bursting with flavor and made with fresh ingredients. The atmosphere inside is warm and inviting, with beautiful murals that really showcase Oaxacan culture. You can feel that this is a true family-run restaurant with a genuine heart for service. On a previous visit, I tried the tlayuda, which is kind of like an Oaxacan pizza, and it was something special too. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the whole place just has a great vibe. My only small complaints are that parking costs ten dollars, though it is validated if you ask, and the lot itself is very tight. Street parking might be the better option. Prices are also a bit on the higher side compared to more casual taco spots, so expect to spend around 20 to 30 dollars per person without drinks. Still, the quality of the food, the atmosphere, and the hospitality make it absolutely worth it. Los Compadres de Oaxaca is one of those spots you root for to thrive. We will definitely be back. read more

I came here with my husband for the second time, and the servers are always so nice. I had the mole burrito, and he got the chicken with mole both were absolutely delicious. We had the mole negro, but we also tried a bit of the red mole with the tortilla chips they bring out at the beginning, and that was amazing too. I could go either way next time! The restaurant is right in the middle of Chinatown. They have a small parking lot, but we didn't have any trouble finding a spot -- maybe we just got lucky. It might be a little more challenging during dinner hours though. read more

We visited Olvera St. and while we loved our experience there, the reviews pointed to a restaurant nearby not on Olvera St. It was close to China town which is nearby. So we walked there from Olvera. We were greeted by vibrant colors and wall paintings when we first walked in. It was amazing. We knew we were in an authentic restaurant when we found the servers barely spoke English. I am ashamed as half Mexican to say my Spanish is dismal. But we could read the menu fine as it had English explanations for everything. When I was in Cancun I had the best mole ever. It put me off of other moles for good. But they mentioned the recipes being from Oaxaca. So since we were at a Oaxacan restaurant I decided to order the enchiladas en mole. It came with yummy rice and beans. The mole was the best I've had since leaving Cancun. Still not quite as good, but good enough. Everyone else loved there plates of tacos, burritos, and soups. The thing I wish they served is some kind of veggie or salad with the entree. A lot of Mexican restaurants do this so as to balance the carbs with some good veggies. Radishes and peppers would be fine for me. Another bummer is they didn't serve margaritas which would have went well with the meal. Otherwise, I wish I lived near this place so I could try many of the delicious looking plates they serve. Especially the molcajete which I saw someone order. Looks amazing. It is absolutely worth visiting this establishment when visiting the area. read more

Realmente decepcionada.

Cozy Hole in wall Mexican restaurant worth checking out in Chinatown. Across from Suehiro Mini. In small strip mall. Started with chips with Mole and sprinkles of cheese. We had the fresh Caldo De Pollo /Chicken Soup on a cold winter night. Very flavorful and hot with fresh vegetables. Craving for some breakfast classic like Huevos De Chorizo wa s also satisfied here. This place serves delicious food. The complimentary appetizer tortilla chips with mole on top. So yummy! The moles are really good. The negro and coloradito. Service was fast and friendly. On Sundays they have live music and the ambiance is great. Family oriented. They do have beer and mezcal. The mezcal is served with salt and a worm. We didn't eat it. Maybe next time! The parking is validated make sure you tell the parking attendant. Enjoy peeps. read more

The food at this little hidden gem is very good. Its as authentic as it can be, they make their own tlayudas on a wood grill they set up out front of the restaurant. The molcajetes and the moles are the star here. Service was excellent, the ambiance is , well, authentic. The tortillas are made fresh from corn, and the Queso fundido was tasty as hell. The molcajetes are quite unusual, oaxacan meats, cheeses, queso fresco to be exact, bolita de chorizo, cecina, and tasajo. They to the table in a searing hot stone bowl, bubbling over with salsa that looks like magma. If you are seeking an authentic Oaxaca meal you'll find it here. read more

Pesimo pesimo pesimo. Pesimos servicio. read more

Craving a savory Mexican snack, picked up a carne asada taco ($4) a' la carte. Very good flavor with right amount of heat, and quite filling. Will go back another day to try other items (the $20 tilapia looks good.) Located inside a tiny strip mall in Chinatown, next to Japanese "Suehiro Mini". To start don't get the Queso fundido $18.99 and it's so small!

That's not salsa de huevo! We ordered huevos con chorizo, we got overcooked chorizo with dry eggs! Food has not taste. Food is pricey. La comida esta muy buena!..un poco pasada de cara en los precios....el servicio bien!...caro creo yo pero mejor que muchos lugares!..

Billed higher prices than listed in the menu and online. The food was good, and much spicier than most of what I've had around here, even at hole-in-the-wall taco joints. The menu states that chicken enchiladas at $15.99 and I was charged $18.99 for each. I was treating a friend to lunch as a thank you for picking up my mom from the airport, but that's a hidden $6 charge for a $32 meal. In the spirit of generousity, I encouraged my friend to have a cofee and a pastry. The coffee was $6 and the pastry was $4. It tasted like the things they sell at Mexican bakeries for like 30 cents. I tried the hot maiz drink (also $6) and found it comparable to Gerber plum baby food in flavor and texture. So, it ended up being pretty pricy, and even more than I expected. Don't secretly upcharge your customers. That's bad business ethics. Would've taken a photo, but my phone died, and I didn't want to make a stink in front of my friend. read more

Excellent Oaxacan food in Chinatown. Very authentic. Excellent service as well. Will be back.

The ambiance was good, the service was meh. The chips with the mole sauce came and there wasn't much mole sauce... My girlfriend and I ordered enchiladas con mole. Mole is her FAVORITE food. So when we try new mole places, we get excited. It was the worst mole we have ever ordered together. She decided NOT to take the leftovers home. If you like mole, stay away. Great place for cheap Mexican food in Chinatown. The wet burrito will fill you up. It's huge! Nachos were great too. Today I wanted something different so I ordered the mole. Not bad for $12!
