Super tasty. Conveniently located in the 76 gas station off hillsdale. Plenty of space to stop while you are gassing up, or, there's plenty of space to park A bit expensive? But I can't say no to a gas station burrito

    Pambaso de chicharrón prensado

Quick update. Came back and tried their Pambaso de Chicharrón Prensado. Surprised that it is priced at $12 but was charged $14.25 (paid in cash), which means I was charge 18.74% for tax!!!!!! Totally outrageous that this place is doubling up the taxes which ranges from 9.375% - 9.875% in San Mateo County.

Decided to try my luck and ask if we could get a discount for if we ordered 30 tacos. The dude working the cash register said "yeah no problem". Ordered and paid realized he didn't apply the discount. When asked about it he pretty much played the "I don't speak English card". Ended up saying call his manager Liz if there is a problem. Troll. Worth a shot but oh well. Tacos were good, wish the limes that were given to us weren't dry. Sauces were pretty good, one's super spicy.

Pollo and Al Pastor tacos. I added the salsa on top. Salsa comes on the side.

Generous with their meat. Tacos were delicious. Chicken was flavorful. Al Pastor was fuego. I was passing by and glad I stopped because I was really happy with the food I got. Service was great, too. Note: No outdoor seating. Takes card and tap to pay. No chips or guac.

Hubby said they're known for their seafood, so I figured I'd give it another shot. We went on Sunday night around 6:30 pm. The restaurant was pretty busy, which is always a good sign. We were seated immediately, and all the servers were nice and friendly. Hubby ordered a bunch of dishes, and here are DS's and my ratings versus hubby's: * Molcajete - 3.5/5 (us) and 5/5 (hubby). It looks great, but the meats were a bit subpar. * Mariscada (seafood platter) - 1/5 (us) and 3/5 (hubby). A bunch of fried frozen seafood. Hard pass. * Ceviche de Pulpo - 4/5 (us) and 5/5 (hubby). Pretty good and something I'd order again. * Costillas en Chile (pork ribs) - 1/5 (us) and 2/5 (hubby). Underwhelming all around. Overall, I'd give this meal a 2/5, plus one extra star for the awesome, friendly service. Their chips and salsa are still very good. It's free which is pretty much unheard of in the Bay Area. They're also happy to refill if you ask, and that earns them another bonus star. Hubby really enjoyed this dinner and is already planning to come back with his friends. As for me, this is probably it.

Must-try birria spot - I keep coming back for a reason…read more This place is on my list of must-tries for Mexican food, and I've been here countless times at this point. The beef birria tacos are SO good like the flavor, the birria consomme, the sauce, the meat. Everything just hits right. This is a legit hole-in-the-wall kitchen, and that's exactly what makes it special. No frills, just really good food that keeps you coming back. Every time I'm craving birria (which is often), this is where I go. The quality stays consistent every single visit, which is huge. You know exactly what you're getting and it never disappoints. For the price and taste, the value is excellent. You're getting authentic, flavorful birria without paying sit-down restaurant prices. If you're in the area and craving some birria tacos, do yourself a favor and try this place. It's the kind of spot that turns into a regular rotation real quick. Trust me, I'm proof of that.

Summary: Flavorful, but HEAVY…read more Details: They just opened up a new branch in SF, but we wanted an excuse to hit up San Mateo, and Latin American is always a good enough excuse. While photos of their SF location suggest some seeing, this OG location is pretty much pickup/delivery only: a fairly literal hole in the wall, located along a random quiet street. Most folks would probably opt to take home or eat at one of the "nearby" parks, but we've gotten in the habit of just eating in the car, which... not so great for something as messy as birria lol. I'll say that for most folks, this would probably easily be more a 4 star spot, while for us, it's more a 2 star since we're unlikely to come back. That's not to say the food was bad: on the contrary, the flavors were quite good, and the consomme was less salty than some of the others we've tried. But their food is HEAVY. Not just the birria itself, but also the burrito we got, and heavier than other places we've been for some reason, with the birria sitting in a pool of oil soon after we picked it up. This probably isn't a deterrent for most people though, so take this as you will. Accessibility: Not too relevant since this is really just a pickup spot, with the pickup window being at the usual height you'd find elsewhere.

When you walk in, you place your order directly with the cashier. If dining in, they will provide you with a basket of chips and you choose from an open table. The booths are a bit cramped with no space at all between yourself and the table but comfortable enough otherwise. There is a self service salsa bar in the corner - we really liked the creamy green salsa. Had just a slight kick but my 3 and 5 year old both loved it. I got a taco salad which is served in a taco bowl with all the ingredients of a super burrito, minus rice and cheese. It was very good, but the bottom of the shell gets really soggy so you can really just eat the top of the shell where it's still crispy. The rest of the family got super burritos and were very happy - the meat was crispy in some parts and moist/soft in other parts and the ratio of the other ingredients were perfect to complement the protein. Everyone left full and happy. Don't forget to get a sweet, cool, refreshing horchata drink to help wash down your meal!
