    Oaxacan Mole Nachos
    Chance K.

We stumbled upon this amazing food truck parked outside of Blue Ocean Brewing in Half Moon Bay! Everything on the menu looked tempting, but we decided to try the memelitas and nachos. We loved the unique taste of rich mole and cotija cheese on the crunchy corn chips. The memelitas were also excellent, basically long tacos with black beans and other garnishes. This is not typical Mexican food -- Oaxacan food is truly its own deliciously unique regional cuisine. Plus the staff are super friendly, and even brought our food to us in the brewery.

After reading the reviews and also the background of this Oaxaca food truck, I knew I had to give it a try! We had to call first to confirm location, the person responded right away and informed us where they were located that weekend. We ordered their blanda and fish tacos. Both were absolutely delicious!! If I'm in the area again, I'll stop by to try their other popular items. Make sure to check them out!

This place is in the running for my go-to taco truck in the HMB area. They're only in HMB on certain days, so it's hard to indulge when they're out of the area. Good service, super authentic Oaxacan food, and flavors that make my tastebuds want more! Try the chorizo, it's delicious!

We tried this food truck at the Mountain View arts & wine festival. We got a classic cheese quesadilla for ~$10, and it came with sides of red salsa and sour cream. The quesadilla was simple and decently filled with cheese. It was prepared for us very quickly and served as a decently filling meal.

Wow wow wow, this place was so unexpectedly great. Many of my friends have questioned why I always want to try new places rather than sticking with tried and true spots, and it's finding spots like Alebrijes Oaxacan Kitchen that vindicate me. While the location in a car repair shop parking lot on a slightly run down part of Middlefield doesn't inspire a lot of confidence, the service and food itself was exemplary. I'm not that familiar with Oaxacan cuisine - all I've really heard of is mole, which is kind of ubiquitous in Mexican sit-down restaurants in the Bay Area. So I wasn't sure what to expect when ordering, but Alebrijes definitely delivered. First, the tlayuda with cecina (marinated pork). This thing is literally as big as a pizza - they serve it in a pizza box! I've never had this before, and the crust was so thin and crispy, and it was covered with beans and meat and lettuce. This is probably enough to serve 2 people solo. Second, the blandas - I've never heard this term before, but do not be fooled it is not related to the English word "bland"! "Blando" means "soft", which also doesn't really explain what this is, which is more like a meat-filled burrito (carne asada in this case). And it's huge! The person who ordered this barely finished half. Third, my entree was the memelitas, which was three perfect crispy/chewy tortillas overflowing with meat (again carne asada). And these were not like normal tortillas, they were more like canoes. That's probably the right way to describe it - three large tortilla canoes overflowing with meat. I was a bit peckish and this one order was definitely enough, and the tortillas were addictive with the distinctive crispy outside and chewy inside with beans and their awesome salsas. So before getting to the molotes, I should say that an order of a tlayuda, blandas with carne asada, and memelitas with carne asada is easily enough for 4 people. But because I have a pathological fear of going hungry, I ordered the molotes too. Honestly I think this was enough for 6. As with everything else, the molotes were fantastic. These kind of remind me of Indian samosas or Middle Eastern kibbeh. They are oblong balls filled with potatoes and sausage that have been deep fried, and they are just as filling as that sounds. Delicious, but seriously it's nap time after one of these. Overall what stuck out to me most about Alebrijes is the great pricing, friendly service, fantastic quality, and generous portions. So I guess pretty much everything except their website needs a menu section. For the $50 I spent 6 people could have had a very nice meal. And they put tons of meat on everything, gave us way more salsa then we could possibly use (the red one is even a bit spicy, which is great), and the food was all fresh and hot. And they take credit cards!

Writing this review makes me wish I had some of Alebrijes Oaxacan Kitchen's food...right now. It was a pleasure to work with Angel and the rest of his team to have them cater our wedding. Even though there were some unexpected last minute hurdles (e.g. the on-site kitchen oven broke the day before - understandably delaying the timeline the day of the wedding a bit), they made the necessary adjustments to pull off a spectacular event! Their food was a huge hit, included unique selections, and all of our guests loved it. When we tried the food at an initial tasting, they prepared servings of everything we talked about as potential options and the presentation was 10/10. They sent us home with enough food to feed 4 adults for a few days! Initially, we discussed different dessert options, and at the tasting they prepared two additional Oaxacan specialties (empanadas de lechesilla and sweet mamon bread) which we ended up loving and chose to go with. The team was willing and able to do everything necessary to make the event special and run smoothly. The wedding took place on UC Santa Cruz property so the inspection requirements were quite rigid, however they drove down to campus all the way from Half Moon Bay to get an inspection of the truck completed and now they serve lunch on campus regularly (check them out there if you're on campus!). Angel went above and beyond to make sure our day was perfect. We loved having their colorful food truck at the event and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Between the molotes, memelitas, mole de pollo, blandas, and quesadilla fritas, it is extremely difficult to choose a favorite dish. Also to note, we served everything buffet style and Angel and crew packed up any remaining food for us to take home. It was great to actually be able to eat more of the food at the wedding as the day of was a whirlwind and we didn't manage to have much. At one point during prep for our wedding, we emailed Angel for input about decorating the buffet table with alebrijes, among a handful of other questions we had. He called a few days later to tell us that his daughter happened to be visiting family in Oaxaca and he asked her to bring back a dozen beautiful alebrijes from her trip, which they used on the serving tables. What a special touch and just one of the examples of how Angel and his family went above and beyond. We live out of town, but will be sure to stop by and have lunch or dinner whenever we are back. Everyone we worked with was incredible, we were truly speechless at their generosity and dedication to making sure the day was all we could have hoped for.

When it comes to meats, I've found Oaxacans know their stuff. Dropped in on Bluewave for some brews foenthe first time and was happy to find the Alebrijes truck in the lot. So many tempting options but decided on the pastor burrito. Man did that hit the spot! Huge serving and the burrito gets a light grill to finish. Pastor had the perfect flavor and texture with bits of crispy and tender meats. Hooked. I'll be back

First time trying! We drove by and saw this and had no idea what authentic Oaxaca food was. Got the chicken enchiladas and memelitas (similar to tacos). Everything tastes home made and FRESH! Most of the dishes have mole and the famous Oaxaca queso. Super yummy and nice people

Best Mexican restaurant on the coast is apparently not exactly Mexican (Oaxacan) nor a restaurant (a food truck). That works.

The burrito was hefty, and everything was good! The quesabirria shells seemed to hold up their crisp better than many others I've tried. Our food came out pretty fast as well. They have a few tables in front of their truck in the parking lot, and there are bathrooms inside the shopping area for convenience. A great lunch option if you're in the area. FYI, they do charge a small fee for utensils.

Some of the hot dishes can take a bit longer, but it's clearly freshly fried and always delicious so it's worth the minor wait. Lots of picnic benches in front of the food truck. Chicharron is chunks of crispy fried pork belly - great when you want some fatty porky indulgence. The red onions pair perfectly to cut through the richness, and the Peruvian corn nuts are a fun addition! Pollo Peruana is stewed chicken thighs. Tender and fell off the bone, but could've used a bit more salt. Still tasty with a nice side salad. Lechonada peruana is stewed pork belly chunks. Fatty juicy tender, and the pork comes on a bed of saucy fries for extra heft. I like to get it with extra salad instead of rice. Super good. I really need to come by on a weekend to try the anticuchos!
