Well this was our first time here, wish I would have read the previous reviews before we went in. I ordered the chicken and beef fajitas, the steak was cut into tiny strips, and I've chewed spike nails that were more tender, the chicken wasn't much better, hardly any flavor, refried beans were thick and pastey, the best part of my meal was the warm flour tortillas, My wife order the bean burritos, she threw up in the truck on the way home, enough said. The restaurant was clean, the decor was very nice, service was quick and the staff were very nice. The bartender at this restaurant is horrible. There were only 10 people seated in the bar area and he couldn't even keep up. You try to get his attention and you're ignored. We went for dinner and drinks, we both ordered drinks and chicken wings. $16.99 for 12 wingets, all so small it was ridiculous. Tried ordering more drinks but was ignored. Decided that ordering food was not looking good. Tried to pay our bill with a credit card and he walked away. Bill came to $50.99 and we left $51.00 cash. Won't be going back anytime soon. I went during happy hour and the place was dead. There's was only one server for the entire restaurant. The service was very accommodating and I didn't feel rushed at all. However the food was average at best. I got the steak and cheese burrito and had no clue what was coming out to me. The burrito was covered in sauces not defined in the menu description. I will start by saying I am extremely picky with Mexican food. My in-laws are Mexican and Puerto Rican. And Los Cantaros is absolutely amazing. Every time I go home to Chicago I plan on eating tamales every day maybe twice a day! With that being said I am excited that I can now get authentic Mexican food right down the street! Los Cantaros is excellent for their food and service. I always order the table side, freshly prepared guacamole, which is absolutely delicious. My only complaint is the cart that the preparer pulls up to the table. It looks like a hot dog and sauerkraut vendor cart that I have seen a thousand times in Philadelphia. Not at all appealing to look at and it actually is a big turn off whenever I see this hideous thing. It certainly takes away the appeal of this incredible guacamole. And what is the sense of having it being made right in front of you? They should have a much nicer table side presentation and I bet they would sell much more. I can't say anything good about the meal. We ordered coconut mojitos and there were absolute disgusting. Nachos Supreme looked promising but they were disappointing -- dried out chicken and unseasoned meat covered in what tasted like artificial cheese. One minute after nachos came, our entrees came -- Enchilada Mexicana for my wife and Beef Chimichanga for me. It was almost as if they microwaved the chicken on the enchiladas, wrapped it in a warm tortilla, and dumped salsa verde on it - no taste and very dry. Chimichanga had very little flavor and was drowned in guac and some sauce. The food was bad and the timing was awful -- we basically ordered and ate everything inside of 20 minutes. Going to this place I was excited to try somewhere new, especially Mexican. Walking in the host was very inviting and also was our waiter which was weird but was very friendly. The service was good and we didn't feel rushed at all. We had went during happy hour which was nice because the margaritas were a little pricy (around $15), but the house margarita was very good. They gave us chips and salsa where the salsa was very good but I ordered the chicken enchiladas Mexicanos and the chicken was pretty dry and did not taste very good! The rice and beans my meal came with were good though! The place itself wasn't a bad vibe but we were sat at a booth near the bathroom which was nice but the sun was shining in my boyfriends eyes which was a bit irritating for him. I'm not sure if I would recommend this place but if you're curious give it a try! read more

We've been here three times, and my food has always been delicious. The last time we had young children with us who ordered typical kids meal food. I have to say that even the fries were tasty. But the menu encourages me to try new things. My husband also has to ask for refills of chips and salsa for their fresh unique flavor. We'll be back. read more

We stopped by today because several of my friends told me Los Cantaros had very good food, was clean and had very efficient service. We were seated in the bar as the restaurant wasn't busy mid-day. The bartender on duty [Kelly] came over to our table within minutes with a menu. The staff was personable and extremely efficient in their positions. I ordered the fajita and my wife ordered the chimi changas. Both servings were more than plentiful, fresh, cooked perfectly. During the meal both the bartender and another server came by asking if there was anything else we needed. We both agreed that we will definitely return, and soon. read more

It was nice to be able to dine inside and to see this new restaurant fairly busy. The food for 4 people and side dishes didn't come out at one time and there was a mistake on one order. The waitress was curt and took the order back to the kitchen. She returned, having taken out the beef strips and replacing with the shrimp but missing some of the beef. Not the way to do it! The food was good and most dishes were very mild, including the salsa served with the chips, the guacamole, enchilada sauce, and Chile verde sauce. I came here for Cinco de Mayo, and I was dining by myself. When the staff realized I was by myself, they treated me like a queen! As busy as they were! Food was yummy, drinks were *very* yummy (I had a delicious cucumber margarita with a tajin rim), and they are all just really good people. Six stars out of five, if I could. Not only was the food incredible but our waiter Nerry, guac maker Gabi and owner Jorge were the most friendly, welcoming and genuine people we've met in Hampton. They were amazing at their jobs and made us feel like family. They made us want to come back every night! If you want authentic Mexican food in the United States, GO HERE. You will not regret it! I would be happy to tell you about the food unfortunately we weren't able to get any. I had called and asked if they were doing take out and I got told yes as long as it's before 5:00. I called back at 4:30 and they said they couldn't do take out even though I was told that I could. Then they went and checked and said never mind we can do orders. I asked for a chimichanga with refried beans and they said they couldn't because it explodes in the fryer even though other places we have ordered from do it. Went for an early dinner (4:30/5:00) after playing mini golf with the kids. Took 20 mins to get our drinks, kids meals we ordered right off took 30 mins and was was incorrect so it went back. Appetizer (chicken nachos) took about 40 mins and was disgusting. At this point I walked inside and told them we are cancelling our orders due to no food for 40-45 mins into the visit. The next thing I know food was coming to our table. My boyfriend got the Carne Azada and it was 90% fat. That immediately went back. I took my steak & cheese burrito to go and left it on the table after seeing the contents that looked old & gross. Went home & grilled burgers. Much better than the food at the restaurant. The manager told us they didn't have enough staff & they didn't expect it to be so busy....I looked at her in disbelief I mean it's Mother's Day. We were looking for a restaurant to cater a family memorial service, and a cousin living in Hampton suggested this new Mexican restaurant. We called and asked if they catered. "We could." They delivered a feast for 20 people including 3 different quesadillas, chicken and steak fajitas, and delicious salsa and guacamole. Each dish stood out from the typical Mexican restaurant fare, with bright flavors and distinctive seasonings. Even the salsa dip was a clear cut above, prompting favorable comment from several of us. We will be back, looking forward to more Guadalajara dishes that expand our Mexican food palette. A great addition! read more

I recently went to this New Mexican restaurant to check out the food and drinks. The reviews I read online were very mixed, some said the food was outstanding, others said terrible. I decided to see for myself. The staff were very friendly and the inside was beautiful! They really transformed it to a vibrant, Mexican experience. The bad news, the food was beyond bad. The complimentary chips and salsa were good. We ordered margarita's pretty bland on the flavor and alcohol. We ordered a number of dishes with pork, chicken and ground beef and none were successful. I got a combo plate with a burrito, enchilada and tamale with pork. The enchilada sauce was bland and tasteless, with a hint of cheese. The pork was inedible. It was cut into small cubes with fat and boiled. There was no spice or seasonings added to the meat. The chicken on my daughter's dish was also bland and tasteless. I pulled the meat out, and put it aside and ate the tortillas. I was still hungry so I decided to try the churros, which I love. They would have been delicious, except they doused with chocolate sauce, whipped cream and a cherry. All the fried deliciousness was turned into a gloppy mess. My suggestion is serve them plain with the chocolate sauce on the side. Needless to say we won't go back. There are too many Mexican restaurants in the area that are doing it right. I hope the management gets their act together and reads the reviews and feedback. We want you to succeed!. But you can't do that with subpar food and drinks.. read more

We're so glad to have a place like Los Cantatos so close! We've been there a few times and love it. We call this kind of Mexican retains " fast food" Mexican, and it's not an insult. It's just cheesy, saucy, Mexican favorites. We love to sit on the front patio and lunch chips and salsa with a margarita. Their coco-pina margarita is really good! There also so nice to our 10-month-old baby, who loves to just sit and watch everyone. I'm a little disappointed to see some of these reviews when all people do is complain that there are no businesses in town. This spot is just starting out and I'm sure they're working some stuff out, But let's give them a shot before throwing out one star reviews. Thats only way we will keep businesses is alive. My only advice to the restaurant is perhaps ask your employees to not smoke directly outback so everyone in the parking lot can see. Not a great look. read more
