Smothered Burrito
Dana M.

My wife and I love HiFi burrito. It's a great quick stop where you can design your own burrito, burrito bowl, nachos or taco salad or whatever you are looking for. All the sides you can add in the base price, some cost a little bit extra. The staff is always friendly, courteous and will go out of their way to please you. The atmosphere is very casual. Everything is freshly made.

Awesome burrito spot that's shockingly vegan-friendly. I'm not sure why it's usually so hard for Mexican places to (1) refrain from putting chicken stock etc. into their beans and rice and (2) to clearly label what is vegan and what isn't (e.g. refried beans). HiFi burrito does it all. All of their beans, rice, and toppings are vegan except the actual meat and cheese. (And they also had vegan cheese and vegan proteins like tofu sofritas). I was also thrilled that they had a brown rice rendition of Mexican rice. Revolutionary. The burritos were generously portioned and nostalgically delicious. They also offer vegan baked goods from a local baker.

Taco Tuesday specials plus chips

OVERALL ASSESSMENT Perfect. OUR PURCHASE -1 Taco Tuesday special (3 tacos for $8.99) -3 ground beef tacos (beef isn't included in special, so $4.24 each) -small bag of chips for $1.49 (?!) THE SUMMARY Excellent staff. Fantastic food. Interesting & creative options. THE DETAILS We were greeted instantly but super friendly staff. The atmosphere was simultaneously upbeat and laid back. Very welcoming and comfortable. Great music. The food was heaven. I haven't been this pleased with a restaurant meal for a long time. I've had decent meals in Dover lately, but none recently that I can't stop thinking about. Absolutely delicious and satisfying. To my beef tacos, I added: jack cheese, salsa fresca, corn salsa, citrus slaw, romaine, & orange cumin vinaigrette. The slaw and vinaigrette add such a unique flavor that I haven't found anywhere else in the area. My husband had chicken tacos and added: black beans, jack cheese, salsa fresca, romaine, carrot habanero sauce, & potentially something else that I don't recall. He also got the corn tortillas which looked amazing. His taco was pretty wet, but it seems the tortillas held up well enough. He was also pleased with his meal. Messy, but great. I am so happy with my meal that I am absolutely planning to go back on for Thursday's burrito special. I don't know exactly what the special is, but I know it will be excellent. WOULD RECOMMEND? Yes. And I can't wait to go back. P.S. Terrible photo; excellent restaurant.

Burrito bowl, chips and guacamole and corn salsa!

We ordered for delivery through door dash. Food was delicious. I was craving guacamole and it was on point!

Chorizo and rice bowl.

Delicious! Build your own burrito, tacos, bowls, salads or nachos. Fresh ingredients! Burrito was gigantic! The bowl with chorizo, Mexican rice, refried beans and lots of yummy toppings was delish! Vegan and gluten free options available. Friendly service. Casual atmosphere.

I want to start by saying we have only ordered via delivery. So it may be a different experience coming in to the restaurant. We've ordered here twice now. I prefer other places, but It's okay. We've had the nachos and various burritos. It was decently cold when it got to us which I know isn't the restaurant's fault. Overall, it's not my favorite and I would chose to try somewhere new next time.

Smothered Steak Burrito

Tried their bowl on my 3rd trip to Hifi, and it's good as I expected! Became my friends and my fav spot in a sec after the first bite. Will visit very soon! Ahh almost forgot to mention. They have burrito day every Thursday which no extra charge on protein (except stake and ground beef) for buttiro and taco!!!

Chilly burrito. First bite was ice cold, 30 second walk from the counter. Not something you want.

Really good burritos. I will say I thought Dos Amigos burritos had better flavor, but these are not too far behind. Definitely recommend.

It was so overcooked the kernels of corn were the consistency of rubber. Whatever the sauce was sour and tasted foul. We each ate two bites and decided to just let it go. We also ordered the taquitos and the were just bland and greasy. Also stopped with two. Just a complete disappointment. My husband ordered the only burrito on the menu that was offered as a hand held. As you can see by the picture it was open and a sloppy mess. He took one bite and said he was good and didn't want to risk eating anything else. I got three different tacos chicken, beef and carnitas. I took a one bite of each and on my life, I've never tasted worse food. Everything tasted like it was days old. The ambiance is cute but I cannot understand the 4 star rating this place has. There was not one single item worth eating. I am convinced people giving this place five stars are friends or paid by the establishment to give out these stars. I have had crappy but edible Mexican food before but this had no redeeming quality. Go to Taco Bell if you need a taco. This was $85 before the tip and we left and ate somewhere else.

Now you can't tell by looking at me but born raise form my mom who doesn't speak English so I grew up in Mexican food, authentic Mexican food. So always the test is the beans that's right Mexican know what I'm talking about. A true Mexican restaurant makes good beans. So I ordered my combination. I speak a few Spanish words to the waiter. He kinda looked at me funny. And he asked me about how I knew how to speak Spanish. Well, I told him I was half Mexican. I told him I will be testing the beans that's the true test. Well they passed. The beans were amazing. The chili rellino were amazing. The tamale was great. For all the white people out there this is good Mexican food for all the Mexicans. It's good enough for you to dine. Enjoy.

Full disclosure this is for takeout so maybe it's a better experience inside. Speaking of inside, the ambience of the restaurant was fine. Not too crowded but a handful of patrons. The decor was cute and the music was a nice touch. I ordered a combination plate with a cheese enchilada and a chicken taco with a hard shell. I selected refried beans and Mexican rice as my sides. The sides were tasty. The enchilada was fine but the cheese tasted like American cheese, and the taco was disappointing. I expected a homemade fried hard shell but instead It was something from the grocery store and hardly filled with chicken. A homemade taco shell and more filling would go along way. Plus adding toppings like sour cream and pico-I believe those could be added for an extra cost. My husband ordered the fajita nachos. He said they were good but I was a little thrown off by the American cheese sauce instead of the more traditional melted jack and cheddar cheese for nachos. I really enjoyed their chips and salsa. Check this place out for yourself!

If you tell me you're going to a taco spot two days in a row on a short trip to Portsmouth, I'll…read moreusually tell you to branch out, the local food scene is way too competitive to burn two lunches in the same building. But then there's Barrio. My wife and I stepped into Barrio on day one looking for a quick, solid lunch, and walked out so completely sold that by noon the next day, we were back. We kicked things off both days with the salsa and guac flight, guacamole, pineapple salsa, salsa verde, and salsa roja. Usually, a salsa flight has one clear standout while the rest just play backup, but everything here holds its own. The pineapple salsa brings a bright, tropical sweetness that cuts right through the richness of the guac, while the salsa verde delivers that crisp, tangy tomatiillo kick. The salsa roja had a deep, smoky heat. Every bowl was fresh, bold, and vanished fast. For the main event, my wife took the "build your own taco" route. She loaded one up with crisp-tender tofu and another with perfectly cooked fish, then stacked them high with a colorful mix of veggies and a tailored blend of sauces and salsas. Customizable menus can be a gamble, but every element on her plate tasted distinct, fresh, and carefully prepared. I stuck to the signature side of the menu and ran through three distinct offerings, the Crunchy Chipotle Chicken, El Jefe Loco, and A La Tierra. They were all fantastic, but El Jefe Loco stole the show. Let's talk about the "Stoner Shell" / "Dub Shell" setup for a second, a soft flour tortilla bonded to a hard corn shell with warm, melted queso. You get that satisfying, classic crunch without the taco completely disintegrating into your lap after the first bite, backed by a warm layer of cheese that ties the whole taco together. It's ridiculous in the absolute best way possible. Barrio nails the sweet spot, fantastic vibe, incredibly fresh ingredients, and flavor combinations that keep you thinking about them long after you've left. If you find yourself anywhere near Portsmouth, I highly suggest them.

Zero out of five stars if I could…read more I genuinely cannot tell you the last time we placed an online order with Barrio and actually received everything we paid for. Missing items have become such a routine occurrence that both DoorDash and Uber Eats have flagged our account because of how frequently we've had to report multiple items missing from our orders. Tonight, we decided to give Barrio another chance after a friend mentioned having a great experience dining in. We even ordered directly through Barrio's website, thinking perhaps that would eliminate some of the issues we've had with third-party delivery services. Somehow, HALF of our order was missing. To make matters worse, trying to contact the restaurant is an exercise in futility. There is quite literally no way to reach a human being. Whether you select the option for the host stand or online orders, you're prompted to leave a voicemail, only for the system to immediately disconnect the call. The amount of money we've wasted on food that we've paid for and never received is frankly appalling. What's particularly frustrating is that we actually enjoy the food and would happily order from Barrio regularly if we could count on receiving what we paid for. At this point, it's not an occasional mistake. It's a consistent failure to fulfill orders correctly, compounded by a complete lack of accessible customer service to resolve the issues. I cannot recommend Barrio for takeout or delivery under any circumstances. We have given them more chances than we should have, and tonight was absolutely the last time.
