This has become our go to spot for Mexican on the Seacoast, so much so that my boyfriend drops in after work once a week and sits at the bar to enjoy a margarita and a meal, and chat with the owner Jorge who you can often find working behind the bar. I must say that Jorge makes some great margaritas that taste very well balanced. I usually try a different one every time and I've never been disappointed. Of course, they bring out complimentary chips and salsa which always hits the spot. Boyfriend likes to get a side of queso and some hot sauce too. I typically end up getting the street tacos here. The plate comes with five tortillas topped with your choice of two proteins and a side of both red and green salsa. It took me a little while to figure out the best combination of meat for the tacos. While the birria tastes solid, it causes the tortillas to fall apart easily, so if you want some of that I'd go for the quesabirria tacos. I was getting the carnitas for a while, but it wasn't always the most consistent as some days it didn't taste as good but other days it tasted fantastic. In my opinion, the go to meat combination for the street tacos is the pollo adobo and the al pastor, as they both have flavorful marinades and the meat itself tastes good as well. While I understand that New Hampshire isn't exactly known for having amazing Mexican food, I've found that this place is solid for the area. I went back after my 1 star review. The weather was perfect and we sat outside, there were lots of well behaved dogs. They patio has been upgraded with a new fence and nice lighting. I had the Pollo con mole which actually wasn't bad. It was typical of lower end Mexican restaurants where they crank out meals to coat the belly for a few giant margaritas. The service was exceptionally slow despite a huge number of waitstaff and runners. Prices are reasonable and the ambiance is quite nice. read more

Very happy we chose Los Cantaros to celebrate Cinco De Mayo. The place was packed and the bar had a DJ with loud music that made the place feel like a party. We had a short wait to be seated and then our server took our order. We expected a long wait, but food arrived in a reasonable time. Everything was served piping hot and delicious. Generous portions and reasonable prices as well. Delicious margarita as well. To top things off, the staff came out and gave out t-shirts, baseball caps and other swag. Just moved here and trying to find a Mexican restaurant we tried LosCantaros. We had high hopes, unfortunately, I had an unexpected food allergy. I ordered the taco, burrito, enchilada. Realizing that it was no fault to the staff. They had no way that I had this allergy, I should have mentioned it but what happened next was what disappointed me. I informed the waitress of the issue, she brought the manager over and he swore up and down that the ingredient that could kill me was not in fact used. My fiancée took a bite to make sure I wasn't crazy, he tasted it right away. The manager said they would replace my meal with no sauce. We assumed that was the culprit. When they brought my remade meal it was just tortillas and taco shell with only meat. So no cheese, no tomato, no lettuce. I thought this was unbelievably rude. We asked for Togo containers paid our check and left. I was embarrassed, I made sure the waitress knew it wasn't her fault. My fiancée and I are restaurant managers so we know how to take care of these situations. The salsa was mediocre but the guacamole was so good. The guacamole was almost black and clearly was old or had been left out to spoil. The Shrimp Veracruz was burned and the vegetables appeared old and grey. The food was one of the worst meals I have ever had. My husband and I ordered the same dish, carne asada, cooked medium. The menu described the meat as a steak. When the meal came in about 2 minutes from when ordered, i knew that there was definitely something wrong in the kitchen. It looked like the meat had been steamed in some type of gray watery gravy. There were two fatty, paper thin pieces of some type of unidentifiable meat arranged on the plate with rice and beans. The rice was dry and tasted like it had been made about several days ago and the refried beans had the texture of baby food. The two flour tortillas that came with it were literally stuck together and wrapped in foil. Bottom line was that this food was absolutely crap at $22.50 per plate. And even if it was priced less, it still was inedible. NOTHING had been freshly cooked. We used to go to Los Cantaros many times in the past and enjoyed their food. They used to even have a cart that the server wheeled around so you could order fresh guacamole and watch them make it. Not any more. Their food is just disgusting. read more

Here's a unique idea: Make Los Cantaros your go-to alternative for late breakfast/brunch!! Seriously. Their Huevos Mexicanos are a perfect escape from the everyday breakfast, in a bath of dim and colorful lighting, set to a soundtrack of Mexican pop and rock music that'll take you away from whatever's ailing you. (A mid-day margarita might help with that too!) And here's the super-surprising kicker: the coffee here is AMAZING! In discussing my love of good brew with the man behind the bar, I learned that he (one of the family owner-operators, who also own La Carretta in Manchester) and his relatives are big coffee drinkers. They sourced this coffee from Columbia, and it's delivered as a pure-coffee concentrate instead of beans, so it's consistent, dark, bold, but not bitter. They fell so in love with it themselves that they started serving it--and now I want to spread the word everywhere! I mean, who thinks of a Mexican restaurant in NH as a primo coffee spot? This place is usually packed for dinner. But it should be a go-to lunch/brunch stop as well. Lunch specials are all good. And next time, I'm definitely trying the quesabirrias. (See photo!) From the outside I had expected more of an upscale vibe. Beautiful decor Very excited to see some place that may had been enjoyable. However upon arrival the hostess was horrible , Seating us next to the bathroom in the totally empty restaurant. I mentioned that I did not want that view and was not offered to move our seats. Customer service was terrible. Menu is limited mostly ground meat and the "gringo" style I found to be offensive. Cleanliness was sub par. After ordering I saw we had arrived at " happy hour ". I missed eating food from my culture and after trying a few places, I came across Los Cantaros! I decided to check it out. Entering I see the owners Bio on the wall. He is from Guadalajara, Mexico and I know they make amazing food over there so I ordered a few items to check it out. I love tacos and it was the first thing I ordered. These tacos have a ton of meat and they are delicious! The most authentic flavor I've had here so far! I loved the pork ones, they are my favorite! My wife and I decided to try out this new Mexican place while visiting the area. The decor was nice and clean. They were playing old-school Mexican music which we enjoyed. We were seated promptly. The restaurant was mildly busy but I wouldn't say it was packed. The menu is fairly standard American Mexican food. Combo platters, tacos, etc. My wife ordered 2 tacos and I had the chicken enchiladas. We also ordered margaritas which arrived in absurdly giant goblets. The drinks were decent but very expensive. I understand that getting margs with dinner is always going to inflate the bill but 2 each was more than half the bill! They were like $15 apiece. That is NY prices, IMO. They weren't bad, though. Just expensive! Our food arrived and was perfectly acceptable. We enjoyed it. I had the jalapeño margarita but it wasn't very spicy. Still good. What we didn't enjoy was the service. After being seated it took about 10 minutes to get menus. We never got water. We did get chips and salsa at some random interval. Once we did order the drinks and food came promptly. After the 2nd round of drinks, we didn't see our server for a literal hour. We had to flag someone down to get the bill. After we got the bill it took them another 10-15 minutes to take our card. We were there for almost 2 hours! It wasn't a terrible experience but not the kind that leaves a great impression. If you have a bad experience here there is a Shaw's in the same parking lot so you can go buy groceries to make more food at home. read more

The Margarita's...TERRIBLE. They seem to focus on quantity, not quality. The bartender has no concept of proportions when mixing drinks. I tried their Mojito and it was literally undrinkable. The bar needs serious attention!! The food is reasonably priced but not even close to the competition in the area. The street tacos are super-cheap but, sorry, I'd rather pay a bit more for quality. I asked for hot sauce and the bottle that was put on the table was dirty as hell. And, it was within 10 days of their grand opening and the bottle had old crud on it which suggested it came from another restaurant. My advice to management - stop by Mad Pork a mile down the road. They have over 40 reviews and 5 stars. There is a tremendous difference in the quality of food and the prices are pretty close. Hire their chef! Also - one of the biggest draws to the former location was their extensive craft beer selection. You folks inherited this phenomenal bar and decided to switch to pissy beers like Coors and 3 types of Corona on tap. Please consider widening your market by introducing and rotating local beers. I understand other reviewers were comparing this to a different kind of Mexican restaurant in town and I feel like you gotta be thoughtful in comparing Mexican food restaurants. There are two main types and each has its benefits and drawbacks--there are the chips-and-salsa-appear-immediately restaurants and the possibly-more-authentic-no-free-chips restaurants. Welcome Los Cantaros, a newly opened authentic Mexican Restaurant in North Hampton, in the Lafayette Crossing center near LLBean, Shaws, Marshall's and Home Depot. They have a great patio with music outdoors. My family went Sunday and I went back today with my parents. We love Mexican food and Los Cantaros was a pleasure. Very good margaritas. We tried the cheese enchiladas, chicken taquitos, carne asada tacos, chile rellenos, and enchiladas Mexicanos with chicken. Every dish was well executed, hot, great tasting, and came out quickly. The best choice for dinner! Went here because we wanted to hang out on the patio and eat some great food, as the reviews said. This was an excellent dinner. My wife and I chose a couple different entrees and loved the queso. I upgraded the combo to a steak burrito, chicken enchilada and soft chicken taco and I am so full! The steak burrito, in the middle of the picture, was the best marinaded steak and was completely jam packed. It was probably a pound of steak! No regrets at all! Loved it and we're looking at ways to visit again in the future. It was also a huge relief from the standard fried foods at Hampton Beach which is 10 minutes away. read more

My friend used a device to help him talk and be understood, and our server was very patient and confirmed our order. The food was very good. I ordered the steak chimichanga. The steak was slightly overcooked, but otherwise, everything was very good. The chimichanga was crispy and had a good amount of filing The guacamole tasted homemade and the refried beans were about what you may expect.
