This has become our go to spot for Mexican on the Seacoast, so much so that my boyfriend drops in after work once a week and sits at the bar to enjoy a margarita and a meal, and chat with the owner Jorge who you can often find working behind the bar. I must say that Jorge makes some great margaritas that taste very well balanced. I usually try a different one every time and I've never been disappointed. Of course, they bring out complimentary chips and salsa which always hits the spot. Boyfriend likes to get a side of queso and some hot sauce too. I typically end up getting the street tacos here. The plate comes with five tortillas topped with your choice of two proteins and a side of both red and green salsa. It took me a little while to figure out the best combination of meat for the tacos. While the birria tastes solid, it causes the tortillas to fall apart easily, so if you want some of that I'd go for the quesabirria tacos. I was getting the carnitas for a while, but it wasn't always the most consistent as some days it didn't taste as good but other days it tasted fantastic. In my opinion, the go to meat combination for the street tacos is the pollo adobo and the al pastor, as they both have flavorful marinades and the meat itself tastes good as well. While I understand that New Hampshire isn't exactly known for having amazing Mexican food, I've found that this place is solid for the area. Fun atmosphere, nice people and generous portions of food that will fill you up. read more

I went back after my 1 star review. The weather was perfect and we sat outside, there were lots of well behaved dogs. They patio has been upgraded with a new fence and nice lighting. I had the Pollo con mole which actually wasn't bad. It was typical of lower end Mexican restaurants where they crank out meals to coat the belly for a few giant margaritas. The service was exceptionally slow despite a huge number of waitstaff and runners. Prices are reasonable and the ambiance is quite nice. read more

The hubby and I stopped here for lunch. The restaurant is very nice. Well decorated. Nice modern Mexican themed decor. Nice music and relaxing feel. The service was ok. The prices are average. The food was very bland. No seasoning on the chicken at all. No taste. Im Hispanic and raised in southern CA so trust me I know about Mexican food. I got the churros as a dessert and they were cold and doughy. My husband enjoyed his meal. He also got a margarita and said it was good. He said it was good but not great. Im not sure I'll be stopping back. The food was definitely not authentic. read more

Very happy we chose Los Cantaros to celebrate Cinco De Mayo. The place was packed and the bar had a DJ with loud music that made the place feel like a party. We had a short wait to be seated and then our server took our order. We expected a long wait, but food arrived in a reasonable time. Everything was served piping hot and delicious. Generous portions and reasonable prices as well. Delicious margarita as well. To top things off, the staff came out and gave out t-shirts, baseball caps and other swag. Bar staff circulated around with small sample tastes of various margaritas as well. What's not to like? This might be my new Cinco go to spot! read more

Solid mid range Mexican good clean restaurant and decent service. I had corn patties with chicken lettuce and cotija cheese, my husband got a burrito combo with cheese, spinach, and black bean. I got a pomegranate margarita that was overly sweet and I wouldn't get again. read more

I ordered a burrito to go and it came with the side of salsa. The salsa lid was puffed out, and when I opened lid, it seemed like it was under pressure. Upon tasting it I could tell it was fermented. I can't help but feel that, if that's the quality of their food, then I won't be back. read more

Recommendation: Families and diners should be aware of potential service issues at this restaurant. Improvements in staff training and customer service are crucial for enhancing the dining experience here. Visit Details: Date: 07/03/2024 Time: 07:24 PM Table: B8 Server: Initials DV Experience Summary: Our visit started promisingly with a young lady greeting us and kindly seating us at booth Table #B8. The restaurant wasn't busy, with many tables empty around us, and a few guests seated a couple of tables away. The ambiance was pleasant with enjoyable music in the background. Unfortunately, the service quickly fell short of expectations. Service and Dining Experience: Initial Requests: Upon arrival, we requested a booster seat for our 2-year-old son but never received it. Despite following up with our server, DV, the request was overlooked. Service Delays: It took our server DV over 30 minutes to attend to our table for the first time, even after we asked to speak to our server because our toddler was very thirsty. When the drinks finally arrived, the server forgot to provide a straw and carried bare straws in his palm without gloves, which is a direct violation of health codes. Order Taking: When taking our order, DV appeared moody and was not polite, particularly rushing and intimidating my 12-year-old nephew, who is still learning to order at restaurants. We ordered tacos for myself, grilled chicken burritos for my wife and nephew, and tortillas for our son, which he never received despite multiple follow-ups. Kid likes to eat tortilla with the poblano sauce - weird but dont ask me why. Food Quality: The food was excellent. We enjoyed our meals, but the delay and lack of service for our son's meal was frustrating. Follow-ups and Conclusion: After waiting 45 minutes since the rest of us got our food and following up multiple times, I requested to see our server again to remove an item from our order as we decided to go home and cook dinner for our son. DV finally appeared after about 15 minutes and offered to remove the item from the bill without apology or acknowledgment of the poor service. His dismissive response that they were "really busy" was unacceptable given the numerous empty tables. Overall Impression: This experience was disappointing and highlighted a significant lack of basic service and courtesy. The server's neglect, lack of communication, and unprofessional attitude were glaring issues. We hope that the management addresses these problems and provides better training for their staff to ensure a positive dining experience for future guests. read more

Food is good, but service is very slow. I think they are short of staff. I hope they improve.

Stellar 5th de Mayo Fiesta 2025! The service was great and the food was excellent and even comes out on time without any delays even though was a busy day! The music from the DJ was amazing !! This spot was much better than expected! Their menu is huge and I love that they offer a la carte if you're not super hungry or wanting to spend a lot. Our server was very friendly and attentive, checking in on us every 10-15 mins. We ordered fajitas well done, but they came out regular. However, the meat was still juicy with plenty of flavor. The margaritas are huge (and strong! When I'm in the area again, I'll be back! read more

Just moved here and trying to find a Mexican restaurant we tried LosCantaros. We had high hopes, unfortunately, I had an unexpected food allergy. I ordered the taco, burrito, enchilada. Realizing that it was no fault to the staff. They had no way that I had this allergy, I should have mentioned it but what happened next was what disappointed me. I informed the waitress of the issue, she brought the manager over and he swore up and down that the ingredient that could kill me was not in fact used. My fiancée took a bite to make sure I wasn't crazy, he tasted it right away. The manager said they would replace my meal with no sauce. We assumed that was the culprit. When they brought my remade meal it was just tortillas and taco shell with only meat. So no cheese, no tomato, no lettuce. I thought this was unbelievably rude. We asked for Togo containers paid our check and left. I was embarrassed, I made sure the waitress knew it wasn't her fault. My fiancée and I are restaurant managers so we know how to take care of these situations. The salsa was mediocre but the guacamole was so good. The truth is we will not be going back just on the managers behaviour alone. There are lots of Mexican restaurants so our search continues. read more

Popped in around 750pm on Cinco de Mayo. I didnt realize they were scheduled to close at 8pm, but luckily they were partying inside with patrons, employees, and a DJ playing all kinds up music to get the crowd going. Chips and salsa was great and the Herradurra was flowing. Ended up leaving around 925pm. Thanks! read more

Poor experience: I have enjoyed this restaurant on a number of previous occasions but recently food quality and service have declined. Regrettably this time the food was inedible. The guacamole was almost black and clearly was old or had been left out to spoil. The Shrimp Veracruz was burned and the vegetables appeared old and grey. When I called to ask for assistance, management kept me on hold, was unapologetic and told me that since I used Door Dash for delivery, there was nothing they could or would do. Poor service and poorly prepared food, I suggest stay away!! read more

Here's a unique idea: Make Los Cantaros your go-to alternative for late breakfast/brunch!! Seriously. Their Huevos Mexicanos are a perfect escape from the everyday breakfast, in a bath of dim and colorful lighting, set to a soundtrack of Mexican pop and rock music that'll take you away from whatever's ailing you. (A mid-day margarita might help with that too!) And here's the super-surprising kicker: the coffee here is AMAZING! In discussing my love of good brew with the man behind the bar, I learned that he (one of the family owner-operators, who also own La Carretta in Manchester) and his relatives are big coffee drinkers. They sourced this coffee from Columbia, and it's delivered as a pure-coffee concentrate instead of beans, so it's consistent, dark, bold, but not bitter. They fell so in love with it themselves that they started serving it--and now I want to spread the word everywhere! I mean, who thinks of a Mexican restaurant in NH as a primo coffee spot? This place is usually packed for dinner. But it should be a go-to lunch/brunch stop as well. Lunch specials are all good. And next time, I'm definitely trying the quesabirrias. (See photo!) Will be back more often for my Mexican brunch at the bar. :) read more

From the outside I had expected more of an upscale vibe. Beautiful decor Very excited to see some place that may had been enjoyable. However upon arrival the hostess was horrible , Seating us next to the bathroom in the totally empty restaurant. I mentioned that I did not want that view and was not offered to move our seats. Customer service was terrible. Menu is limited mostly ground meat and the "gringo" style I found to be offensive. Cleanliness was sub par. After ordering I saw we had arrived at " happy hour ". However we were not offered this promotion . The Fajitas were beef super chewy . The tacos were generic and chimichanga was terrible just more greasy taco filling, dessert was tiny and expensive . Terribly over priced on everything? Don't get it. I can say that the selection of Hot Sauce was lovely. However I'm out. read more

The food was one of the worst meals I have ever had. My husband and I ordered the same dish, carne asada, cooked medium. The menu described the meat as a steak. When the meal came in about 2 minutes from when ordered, i knew that there was definitely something wrong in the kitchen. It looked like the meat had been steamed in some type of gray watery gravy. There were two fatty, paper thin pieces of some type of unidentifiable meat arranged on the plate with rice and beans. The rice was dry and tasted like it had been made about several days ago and the refried beans had the texture of baby food. The two flour tortillas that came with it were literally stuck together and wrapped in foil. Bottom line was that this food was absolutely crap at $22.50 per plate. And even if it was priced less, it still was inedible. NOTHING had been freshly cooked. We used to go to Los Cantaros many times in the past and enjoyed their food. They used to even have a cart that the server wheeled around so you could order fresh guacamole and watch them make it. Not any more. Their food is just disgusting. read more

I recently moved to this side of the country and was having a hard time finding an Authentic Mexican restaurant. I missed eating food from my culture and after trying a few places, I came across Los Cantaros! I decided to check it out. Entering I see the owners Bio on the wall. He is from Guadalajara, Mexico and I know they make amazing food over there so I ordered a few items to check it out. I love tacos and it was the first thing I ordered. These tacos have a ton of meat and they are delicious! The most authentic flavor I've had here so far! I loved the pork ones, they are my favorite! Then I got the Enchiladas Verdes and the sauce was on point! The sauce makes the enchiladas! I highly recommend Los Cantaros! It's a must try! read more

My wife and I decided to try out this new Mexican place while visiting the area. The decor was nice and clean. They were playing old-school Mexican music which we enjoyed. We were seated promptly. The restaurant was mildly busy but I wouldn't say it was packed. The menu is fairly standard American Mexican food. Combo platters, tacos, etc. My wife ordered 2 tacos and I had the chicken enchiladas. We also ordered margaritas which arrived in absurdly giant goblets. The drinks were decent but very expensive. I understand that getting margs with dinner is always going to inflate the bill but 2 each was more than half the bill! They were like $15 apiece. That is NY prices, IMO. They weren't bad, though. Just expensive! Our food arrived and was perfectly acceptable. We enjoyed it. I had the jalapeño margarita but it wasn't very spicy. Still good. What we didn't enjoy was the service. After being seated it took about 10 minutes to get menus. We never got water. We did get chips and salsa at some random interval. Once we did order the drinks and food came promptly. After the 2nd round of drinks, we didn't see our server for a literal hour. We had to flag someone down to get the bill. After we got the bill it took them another 10-15 minutes to take our card. We were there for almost 2 hours! It wasn't a terrible experience but not the kind that leaves a great impression. If you have a bad experience here there is a Shaw's in the same parking lot so you can go buy groceries to make more food at home. read more

The location is cursed! I have seen 5 restaurants go out of business in this spot and it will be a miracle if this place survives a year unless the management responds to the customer feedback. The updates to the former Barley House are quite nice. The tiling and assortment of Mexican pitchers cute - not nearly as elaborate as Margarita's..but nice. Service is friendly - all of the staff seem to know each other, I believe they worked together at a former location in Manchester. There is a huge outdoor seating area - great place to bring a dog. The Margarita's...TERRIBLE. They seem to focus on quantity, not quality. The bartender has no concept of proportions when mixing drinks. I tried their Mojito and it was literally undrinkable. The bar needs serious attention!! The food is reasonably priced but not even close to the competition in the area. The street tacos are super-cheap but, sorry, I'd rather pay a bit more for quality. I asked for hot sauce and the bottle that was put on the table was dirty as hell. And, it was within 10 days of their grand opening and the bottle had old crud on it which suggested it came from another restaurant. My advice to management - stop by Mad Pork a mile down the road. They have over 40 reviews and 5 stars. There is a tremendous difference in the quality of food and the prices are pretty close. Hire their chef! Also - one of the biggest draws to the former location was their extensive craft beer selection. You folks inherited this phenomenal bar and decided to switch to pissy beers like Coors and 3 types of Corona on tap. Please consider widening your market by introducing and rotating local beers. There's more margin in it too! read more

Great new Mexican restaurant! This palace has it all. Authentic Mexican food was top notch. The steak fajitas were outstanding. Service was great. Food was also delicious. Chile Rellano's were some of the best I've had. My mother got the bowl with adobo chicken and that was also really tasty. Bean dip was also delicious. I understand other reviewers were comparing this to a different kind of Mexican restaurant in town and I feel like you gotta be thoughtful in comparing Mexican food restaurants. There are two main types and each has its benefits and drawbacks--there are the chips-and-salsa-appear-immediately restaurants and the possibly-more-authentic-no-free-chips restaurants. This restaurant is a free chips and salsa place and compared to the rest of the free chips and salsa places, it's a solid 5 stars. read more

Welcome Los Cantaros, a newly opened authentic Mexican Restaurant in North Hampton, in the Lafayette Crossing center near LLBean, Shaws, Marshall's and Home Depot. They have a great patio with music outdoors. My family went Sunday and I went back today with my parents. We love Mexican food and Los Cantaros was a pleasure. Very good margaritas. We tried the cheese enchiladas, chicken taquitos, carne asada tacos, chile rellenos, and enchiladas Mexicanos with chicken. Every dish was well executed, hot, great tasting, and came out quickly. The service was great and friendly. The atmosphere is fantastic, it smells wonderful and the music is so good. Here are some pictures of our meals. I can't wait to sit on the patio when it warms up. The best choice for dinner! Went here because we wanted to hang out on the patio and eat some great food, as the reviews said. This was an excellent dinner. My wife and I chose a couple different entrees and loved the queso. I upgraded the combo to a steak burrito, chicken enchilada and soft chicken taco and I am so full! The steak burrito, in the middle of the picture, was the best marinaded steak and was completely jam packed. It was probably a pound of steak! No regrets at all! Loved it and we're looking at ways to visit again in the future. It was also a huge relief from the standard fried foods at Hampton Beach which is 10 minutes away. read more

Food was plain and pedestrian, refried beans were dry and unbeatable. Yellow rice dry and over cooked. Service was slow and inattentive.

The service was slow. If you want a burrito with rice, the rice is an extra dollar. This was my first time visiting this venue. I came here with a friend who has a disability, and the staff was very accommodating. My friend used a device to help him talk and be understood, and our server was very patient and confirmed our order. The food was very good. I ordered the steak chimichanga. The steak was slightly overcooked, but otherwise, everything was very good. The chimichanga was crispy and had a good amount of filing The guacamole tasted homemade and the refried beans were about what you may expect. The menu is decently sized with a good amount of variety without being too overwhelming. Overall, it was a good experience. read more
