This place taste like eating in your grandmas house. It is so authentic and feels like home. I was originally going to cathedral but it was an hour wait and I was hangry. Decided to try this place out that's less than 10 minutes away. I had the enchiladas. I am always hesitant to eat enchiladas at restaurants because they usually are bad. I tried half papa and half chicken. They were both really good. Our waitress was very kind with suggestions. My mom didn't care too much for the special. The down side is that parking is limited. They have a small parking lot in the alley but most is taken by employees. They have street parking. This place is phenomenal! It's family owned, opened in 1995 and the talk of the neighborhood. It's unsuspecting if you walk by but as you walk in, it immediately feels cozy. I'm vegetarian and they were super accommodating. We had the: - Atole de teja: a warm sunflower seed based drink. Super yummy, definitely recommend - Divorced Eggs: definitely get this. They're known for this. I agreed but her only condition was that we had to stop at a store first, I gave in. I don't do well when I'm hungry, she should've known that. After a few minutes in the store I started complaining that I was hungry and we just left without getting what she needed LOL. It was a nice sunny, chilly day. We get there and it took a bit of effort and driving around to find parking since there was a lot of people going to the building in front, which seems to be a church. We get inside and to my surprise, it is a nice place, painted with a nice yellowish color. Decent size place subdivided into 3 areas. We ordered the food and I knew exactly what I wanted, enchiladas huastecas. When properly prepared they are awesome. So this is the list of what I tried: Enchiladas huastecas, huevos divorciados, atole blanco and atole de teja. The enchiladas were good, not great but good. They are filled with cheese, chicken or picadillo, covered in red sauce, topped with sauted carrots and potatos, lettuce and avocado, accompanied with black refried beans. But again I compared them to my family's and there are no better enchiladas than my mom's. The eggs were solid good the atole blanco on the other hand, was great, just the way my mom used to make. It is accompanied with polincillo (kinda brown sugar candy for a lack of proper English term for it) One sip of that atole and a bite on the piloncillo immediately transported me to when I was a child and mom would make that for us. I had never had atole de teja but wasn't going to leave without tring it. It is good and do not know how they make it but is made with sun flower seeds. The food here is pretty good. I am only given them three stars because there service is extremely slow. It's like snails are running this place. I was there with my kids and husband on a Monday when it wasn't too busy and it took almost 40 minutes to get our order. I got the chilaquiles which are tasty. My husband had bistec ala Mexicana. He loved it. My girls had the pancakes which surprisingly were nice and fluffy. I wasn't expecting great pancakes from a Mexican resteraunt:) Another reason for only 3 stars is because I found a hair in the salsa. Gross. The ladies working there need to wear their hair back. Coffee isn't good either. They should try adding cannela to make it more flavorful. Will try them again but not for a long long time. A family owned restaurant, in which you will always see at least one member of the family there at all times. They serve the BEST home-style mexican food that your heart desires. While others say that they serve "authentic" mexican food, this is the most authentic you can get. Like their motto says on a poster at the front of the restaurant, "Si quieren comer rico y calientito, esperense un momentito", meaning "If you want to eat good and hot, wait a moment", sure the translation doesn't have the same effect, but you get the idea. They serve from Huevos Rancheros, to Enchiladas, to Chicken Salads, Mariscos, etc. Everything that you would ever want. If there is something that you are craving, but you do not see on the menu, you can just tell the waitress what you want, and you will have it in no time.
